Should The Gomeangreen Non Unt Sports Forum Be Reopened?
TheTastyGreek replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Beat me to the punch on Potato Oles. When I was in high school, I spent a few months working at a Taco John's. I had to wear a nametag. Every customer was the cleverest guy in the world. -

I'm a big fan of Don Taco. Wish we had them here in Texas. -
Should The Gomeangreen Non Unt Sports Forum Be Reopened?
TheTastyGreek replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
If we're talking about a return to the political stuff that started popping up when the rules changed shortly before the election... NO. Leave it dead, burn it, bury the ashes, and piss on the mound of dirt covering them. This place is a forum for the Mean Green community, and nothing tears down community like political bickering. Besides, the governance of our nation is not a Sport, and shouldn't be treated as a side-taking, team-cheering topic. But if we're talking about a general discussion forum for other sports, TV, and low-key topics that don't damage the camaraderie of this collection of fans, then I'm all for it. Just lay out the rules clearly and moderate with an iron fist. -
T.J. Covington bets North Texas fans say that to all the boys.

Season Opener Watching Party-uptown
TheTastyGreek replied to GreenFlag's topic in Mean Green Football
If the one in Uptown is anything like the one in Lewisville, I'll drag my scrotum through a tossed salad of broken glass and rusty nails before I ever set foot in there. Strongly, emphatically, intensely... Not a fan. And I know a thing or two about terrible sports bars- I've eaten at Buffalo Wild Wings. -
Rick Pitino Has Some Explaining To Do
TheTastyGreek replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Pitino and that woman.... Ugh. It's like picturing Pat Riley nailing a leather jacket with blonde hair. In a place where people eat. -
Since you asked... Quoner actually does (eventually) make reference to it here.

Looks like one of Smitty's 2009 releases. Similar style to his kickass wallpapers shown in another thread. -
How Many Road Games Are You Planning To Make?

3- Alabama, ULL, and to be determined. Either Arkansas State by car or FIU by plane if there's any way to piggyback on an AirTran special that was mentioned on the SBC board. -
Is Karl Marx A Communist
TheTastyGreek replied to mad dog's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I think this was a borderline 'pass' decision by us a few days ago, as we figured posing the question (and subsequent followups) in our customary fashion would likely have gotten us rightfully reprimanded. Now, if you're curious about how we should deal with Chone Figgins in the Angels/Rangers pennant race... Feel free to ask what should be done about him. But be warned... This Marx/Communism inquiry already makes me feel emboldened. -
Mean Green Add Smu Transfer Julian Herron
TheTastyGreek replied to NTEdgex2's topic in Mean Green Football
Not to bring you down, but keep in mind that they cut him loose voluntarily. If he'd abandoned them, then your incitement that SMU create a vacuum effect in the vicinity of this news would be more apt. As it stands, this is potentially good news for us, and relatively indifferent news to them. -
Mean Green Add Smu Transfer Julian Herron

It's like we traded Padron for a superior prospect, one year later. Not a bad deal in the end. -
As long as we don't trade away the young pitching...

But Holland had that one game at the deadline where he struck out ten guys! TEN! When is he Hall of Fame eligible? First ballot, right? -
Yeah, it's not that anyone intentionally did him wrong or anything... Just a series of tough breaks that add up to a disappointing four years for the guy. Wish him the best in whatever the next stage of his life turns out to be.

This is all coming from memory, so anyone who wants to fix mistakes or clarify any confusion on my part, feel free... Out of high school, Brown was a pretty well regarded prospect as a TE and a DE. Had offers from bigger programs, but the deciding factor was that he didn't want to be a defensive lineman. Because the coaches recruiting him did a pretty good job of winning him over, AND promised him that he'd play as a TE rather than a defensive lineman, he chose us. There was some on-and-off flirtation with his brother a year or two later. Talked about offering a scholarship, but ultimately only extended preferred walk-on status. Brother wound up going 1-AA, I believe to Northern Colorado, as a WR. First year, little brother gets knocked out for the season in their opening game against Hawaii, and I don't think he's been able to get back his athleticism. Not sure if it was implied as a recruiting pitch that the brothers might get to play together here... But I do recall Papa Brown being pretty disappointed when younger son didn't get an offer here. Anyway, then the coaches who brought him here and promised him a shot as a TE are canned, and now it's Dodgeball time where the TE is only getting lip service as an offensive tool in year three. So Charlie winds up switching over to the defensive line. Remember, if he'd wanted to play there, he could have gone to a bigger program than ours, and now he's two years behind in his development and "learning" from Drake and Mendoza. Barely plays in 2007. 2008 rolls around, much of the 2007 defense is gone, and now he's pressed into service. But very soon, he ends up getting shifted over to DT to compensate for injuries and lack of depth. So now he's playing a position that (I believe) he never even played in high school, and he's doing it at 250 pounds. For perspective... Several folks are worried about how Gilmore might not be able to make the most of his skills at the DT spot, and Gilmore outweighs Charlie Brown by 20 pounds. Anyway... Because of the beating he takes, the guy ends up playing through some injuries and still misses 3 or 4 games. If things had gone a little differently, I think the guy could have been the next guy in the Muenchow/Blount tradition, and a fan favorite. Instead, he gets shuffled around and (in my opinion) ends up with kind of a raw deal. If I were him and I stuck it out through the four years that he's been through, I probably wouldn't want to come back for year five, either.

This sucks. I can't really blame the guy, but I'm very sorry to see him go.

War On Terror Is Over

So... Did we win? Seems like all we need is a quality spermicide or some sort of barrier to win a war on semantics. -

I don't like clicking or reading... Did we win? -
Paying a guarantee to a D-II school is cheaper than Texas State. Also, Larry Teis is secretly plotting the utter destruction of the University of North Texas. We can't let him in the castle walls, or he might set off a dirty bomb. Or something like that... I wasn't in on the phone call.

It's a mistake for UNT like I made a mistake not coordinating with Salma Hayek to go to my prom with me. You can't coordinate with another party that isn't interested. If I recall correctly, this sort of cooperative effort was thoroughly pursued and DISD was not willing.

Reading between the lines and correcting one missing "r"... I agree wholeheartedly.
