The important thing is that we snap to immediate, intense, irrational anger. -
MGB: Thoughts on where UNT could turn for new OL coach
TheTastyGreek replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Just to be clear, the top o-line coach in the belt would be... An assistant coach on that team, right? -
That just means the SFA buyout would be very reasonable. Raise your expectations, Shooter.
-
We should definitely call SFA and request permission to contact for an interview. He's undefeated there this year.
-
That's the question. I suspect he'll probably take a year or two off, then (if he decides he still wants to coach) hop on at a mid-major in Louisiana or Texas... A Tulane or Lamar type program. Not those specifically, because I think Tulane just hired a coach and Lamar has JJ's old pal Tic Price as their HC. But something in that tier. Maybe Texas State, if they decide to fire Kaspar. 50/50 it's a better program or a better conference (and better money) than what he'd get trying to come back and rebuild this mess again.
-
Yeah, this is a lousy year for them, and that's why he's getting fired. But this is the first time in his LSU career that they'll (almost certainly) finish below .500 against the SEC. And, Jones has more wins against Top 25 teams as Benford does road wins (against ANYONE) since 2014. Again, why do we need to diminish the guy just because we probably won't and shouldn't hire him back here? Only because the tiebreaker system was absolutely absurd. Who won the east? Troy. Who won the west? Us. Who won the only head-to-head regular season game between the two? Us. But somehow, Middle Tennessee tying for the East division meant we didn't get the outright championship. Because, reasons. Thanks, Sun Belt.

We actually had a regular season conference championship in 2010. Which Top 25 team that we played during his tenure do you feel we should have beaten? It's not like he can't win those games, because he's won six games against top 25 teams since leaving here. Please let me know which Top 25 opponent you feel we should have beaten during his time here. I'm not saying we should rehire him, but we don't need to shit on the run of success we had under him. Because odds are, I'm going to die before we ever see another run like what he gave us.

Scholarship hole, I mean. 25 Max per year, and every time we go heavy on JUCOs with 2 or 3 years instead of 4 or 5, it makes it harder to climb out. We heard the same thing about being under the scholarship limit from Mac that we hear now. And JUCOs or blue shirts that eat at future ships to patch the present are still a problem.
-
The point, like the consequences of recruiting underperformance, tend to catch up with you whether you want it or not.
-
Mac started in a hole, too, largely because of the JUCO heavy last-gasp effort to save Dodge in a make or break year.

Much more realistic. You're getting a coach who has proven themselves a winner, but doesn't yet (or currently) have the one thing that makes them a hot commodity someone can sell to a power conference fan base. It's still really unlikely, though... Because guys who win regular season championships are still very likely to get raises and or extensions from their current school. Which means more guaranteed money, a longer leash, and the benefit of a stable, familiar environment where you know you can succeed. Tough, tough, tough to get a currently employed D1 head coach that's actually worth having here. This is a more realistic concept of how we might make it happen, though. Following up... Last year I actually did a capsule on a coach who fits the profile that @Greendylan is talking about.
-
I've said for over a year now that I'd love a guy like Roman Banks out of Southern. But I think Davis, if he wants to take another stab at coaching outside the SWAC, is probably aiming higher, and would probably be able to get it with another tournament appearance. I should say that I assumed DL1 meant a head coach in the tournament. If we have an assistant we like that's live in the tournament, that could absolutely be a factor in timing of the hire.
-
Just not a realistic scenario at all, man.
-
We miss him, we love him, and every day we log in hoping it's the day that he finally comes home, safe. Happy birthday, buddy. Hope you're happy and warm, wherever you are.

Zero percent.

I think you're wildly overrating the value of a field goal holder. And, even if you aren't... We didn't sign one today.

Season Ticket Renewal has Started
TheTastyGreek replied to Withers940's topic in Mean Green Football
Inspired by the Tony Benford Evaluation Process, I've decided to wait until the end of yet another season of football before making any final decisions on whether or not to purchase season tickets. It's my process, and you all just have to trust that I'll make the right decision when I feel that the appropriate time has come. #NewDenton -
It would probably exactly match the decrease to last year's class grade. Exactly.

What's his ceiling? Evan Walker, or Breece Johnson? -
This is a forum about recruits, and a thread dedicated to a specific piece of recruiting news. Stop turning it into a slap fight about a different school.

You'd be surprised. When we did TY sports and broke the news about Mendoza getting fired, they apparently brought in someone I've never met in my life and dressed him down, because apparently I worked with his nephew at a previous job, and they were sure he was the leak. If he don't wanna say, I don't blame him. Even a hint could screw it up for him and whoever he's talking to. -
Too tall, too many stars. Why buy a polished stone when we'd have to give up a diamond in the rough? No thanks, mystery man. Good luck elsewhere.
