  1. Very true, and very fair as a counterpoint. But it's tough to rack up 4,000 yards of total offense in an 8, 9, or 10 game season, too. We haven't had that many 1 and 2 win seasons, either. That's a better measure, but more time consuming to count.
  2. Yep. Sorry, I didn't realize it was unclear. I mean we've only lost 10 or more games in a season once in 91 years. And then 3 straight times under Dodge.
  3. Other than every single year of Dodge's tenure, only once in North Texas' 94 year history have we had double digit losses in a single season. Once in 91 years, then 3 for 3 under Dodge. The only other time it happened was almost 40 years ago. We fired Rod Rust and our next hire was an experienced, proven coach who took us to .500 in his first season: Hayden Fry.
  4. Petrino supposedly had the WKU job all but in hand, until Taggart knocked them over and Harbaugh sealed it by vouching for him. He's turning into a Sun Belt groupie... If we decide to interview him for an opening here, make sure he takes a blood test first- No telling what he's caught in Monroe and Bowling Green.
  5. And they already know our audibles and signals. So the learning curve wouldn't be very steep.
  6. Just to put that in perspective... Coming into this year, Larry Blakeney was already arguably the second best coach in Sun Belt history. His 4 year record up through last year, including 3 conference championships? 21-7. Drop his worst year and include this undefeated conference season, and Blakeney's record goes up to 26-3... That would do enough to get Dodge just barely over .500 in conference by the end of year 7. IF he can match the second greatest coach in conference history, with 3 1-loss seasons and an undefeated one.
  7. If Dodge were to go 22-5 in the Belt from this point forward, he'd match the 24-25 Sun Belt record that got Weatherbie fired. Minus the SBC co-championship and road win against Alabama.
  8. My one request is that Green P1 is spared any undue hardship. I always felt that Quoner and I were the Dismas and Gestas to poor, innocent P1. And the pistol-whipping, even though it earned him a forum name, might have been a bit harsh. Brah.
  9. I couldn't tell! I still can't! Either you like me, or you resent me and are brilliantly clever in how you appear to stroke my ego while actually insulting me. Whatever the reality is, I applaud your genius.
  10. My mom won't let me take candy from strangers. So unless you're willing to come to my slumber party this year and formally introduce yourself, I'm not going to be able to accept any ban from you.
  11. MORE POSTERS!!! POSTER STIMULUS FOR NATIVE BORN AMERICANS!!!!
  12. Sagarin is meaningless. Last year, he had Apples atop the list with Pears 2nd, and Oranges outside the top 5. Tells me all I need to know about the validity of his methods.
  13. I did, and I do. It was more a salute to Medpilot for acknowledging that Mr. Vizza isn't a bad guy (not that I know him personally). I don't have any kids, but I can't imagine it would have been easy to keep a level head and a cool, dispassionate disposition when he read some of the things that people here wrote about his son. Doesn't excuse some of the stuff I vaguely remember reading, but it does explain what might make an otherwise good and decent guy fly off the handle the way he did.
  14. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is a savage burn on me. It's so well done that I'm not even offended, just impressed. I tip my hat, sir. VsBNOQktnwI
  15. Good post. One quibble- You must have missed the memo. Vizza's dad is an enemy of the state, an unstable and evil force. Charlie Brown's dad is questionable, too. The only parent who matters at the moment is Mosley's dad. Also, we're at war with Eastasia now. Always have been. Act accordingly.
  16. I thought they replaced their guy last year.
  17. Yes. And it gets even better if he wins fast and "screws us over" by leaving for a better job. If he does another 2 year winning record turnaround (as he's done everywhere else he's ever been) and leaves us for a BCS job, we'll be in our new stadium with 2 of his recruiting classes, for an average cost of just over $200k per year. Program rebuilt, stadium in place, price tag lower than Dodge.
  18. If we hire Fran, we can pay him $1 in 2010. His buyout with A&M pays him a million dollars. Anything we give him in 2010 reduces the buyout total by an equal amount. Taking money from us in 2010 earns him no additional money. We can use 2010 to cover our buyout liabilities with Dodge and get out from under that burden in a year rather than spreading it out over 2 or 3 like we did with Dickey, because we won't be paying two salaries at once. After that, we should be able to afford $400k per year in 2011 and beyond. That's right in line with what he's chasing at UNLV, and what he probably would have made at San Diego State if they hadn't decided to spend so much on Brady Hoke instead.
  19. I've been saying this, obliquely and directly, all week. He's not our head coach next year. And he knew it before the Arkansas State game.
  20. How was it compared to a Navy game at the same time of day, in the same part of the same month, two years ago?
  21. I've never been more confident, not on the LaCroix resignation, not on the Mendoza firing, not on the DeLoach hiring, than I am about the Dodge situation.
  22. Yep. Turning a 3 win Alabama squad into a winner in his first year, 10 wins in the SEC in just his second season... The reason they're still upset with him out there isn't because he wasn't successful... It's because he didn't stick around and suffer through sanctions when Texas A&M was willing to pay him more. And I'll go out on a limb and say that trying to get a program going in the Big 12 South might just be one of the toughest assignments in college football. The guy beat Texas in both his last two years there, and I don't think he ever lost to a Texas team that was ranked below 5th.
  23. Apologies to the person who already read this in a PM, but... Franchione gets $1 million in buyout money from A&M in 2010. We could get him as a $1 coach for 2010 (allowing us to resolve our buyout issues in one year) and pay him $400k per year after that, which is on par with what he was after when he pursued the San Diego State job last year. In my opinion... If Dennis Franchione isn't our next head coach, it had better be because he slammed his door in the face of a kneeling, pleading Rick Villarreal. I don't know of anyone else out there who's a more perfect fit for what we need.
  24. I'm certainly no fan of the Pizza Inn Nazi... But when the guy decides you need to go, by golly, he makes sure you're GONE. The Holosauce left a shameful stain on Denton's history, there's no question about that. But as terrible as it may have been, at least it showed a certain decisiveness that's sorely lacking at North Texas.
