  1. If it makes you feel any better... He WILL be in Shreveport. I know it's just across the border, but that's still technically Louisiana. So, there's that. Silver lining?
  2. Jealousy is such an ugly look on you.
  3. Shame on Vito. It's wildly irresponsible journalism to say at this point that things have 'fallen apart'. Doesn't he realize a rigorous evaluation is still underway? What if it turns out things have been fine, just fine? Be patient and wait for the evaluation to end, Brett. Or, kiss that parking pass goodbye.
  4. He's gonna love Baker, then. Doesn't seem willing to fire a coach no matter how desperately he needs to be pushed out.
  5. Woolridge and Lawson are eligibility freshmen. Do we need to re-up Benford through 2020 to make sure they earn their degrees? Or, does Benford have to stay on extended evaluation at least through June until the academic semester is over? August, in case anyone needs summer credits to stay on track?
  6. Fair enough. Didn't mean to be too terse. But, remember that once upon a time, we had people here bitching about us being a poor free throw team during 3 of the best free throw shooting years in North Texas history. So... Context is always important.
  7. Only two teams in all of college basketball shoot 80% or better. Before this year, nobody had done it since 2012. If this team could shoot 80% from the free throw line, they'd be one of the best free throw shooting teams in modern college basketball history.
  8. This used to happen to me at least once or twice a year. The only time it really annoyed me was one year when an overzealous usher wouldn't let me move to a different section because 'it was reserved seating'. Mind you, it was one of those noon weekday games where almost every other section was very empty, and I was trying to go down and sit next to someone (@UNTflyer or @UNTFan23, I think?) that was actively waving me down to sit in one of their unused seats. I tersely pointed over to my OWN reserved seat ticket, and the DISD kid sitting in it, then called whoever it was waiting for me to hold up their second, unused ticket. And she finally let me go sit down.
  9. So... I should stop expecting it 'sooner than 2016'?
  10. Hey, now that we've given Littrell that extension that absolutely nobody was demanding... Maybe, finally, we can finish up that Benford evaluation? Never too late to fire him, until of course it's too late to fire him.
  11. Quick, unnecessary contract extension (with no apparent NT benefit) for a football coach? STILL refusing to fire Tony Benford? #NewDenton If anyone knows when Wren Baker's birthday is, please let me know. Because I'm thinking about dusting off the dreambox, and seeing if we can raise enough money to buy him a sweater vest and a Jimmy John's sandwich.
  12. You fly planes... Any chance this other trip is just to get Wren an aerial view of the basketball program so he can finally finish this evaluation?
  13. That's awesome to hear, and quite a relief. Just out of curiosity... I don't suppose you have any relatives that are successful D1 basketball coaches, do you?
  14. No more politics. No more warnings. Long suspension for another infraction.
  15. The problem is, lazy doctors will sometimes refuse to perform a Benfordectomy. They prefer to just let the disease run its course, whether or not that kills the host body entirely.
  16. 14 games played should take any shot at a medical redshirt off the table. I think you may be mixing his situation up with Frazier.
  17. Maybe that doctor wants to perform a Benfordectomy, too? I just hope we don't see a Combs transplant before next season.
  18. Is it true that Mean Joe only rented his apartment while attending school in Denton?
  19. I had intended to do almost twice as many (at least) as what you see here now. Then RV made a quick announcement that we were keeping Benford around for another year, and it gutted my enthusiasm for it. It's a lot of work for absolutely no purpose, especially when you see how much has changed just since last year, and how many of these guys have either jumped out of our league again or fallen off and might not be sellable as a quality hire anymore.
  20. https://mgtvwjhl.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/11232015untitled_2015112312372600.pdf $300k if he gets a power 5 conference job or a TV gig, $150k for anything else. But he's 22-6, on track for NCAA or NIT, and probably on the radar for bigger programs than us. If we wanted him, last year was probably our last shot.
  21. I did not, no. Not understanding our evaluation process, I'm trusting the powers that be to handle that call in an appropriate way at the appropriate time. Maybe mid-July? Will we be done evaluating by then?
  22. Exactly. UTSA has a history of replacing leadership with absolutely no falloff in effectiveness. Darrell Hammond, Norm MacDonald, Jim Gaffigan, George Hamilton, Vince Kartheiser, and now Billy Zane. Whoever they get to replace this guy, all they have to do is paint him gold or put him in a zany costume and people will still keep buying tickets to UTSA games, whether or not they're doing it on purpose.
  23. Oh, and hey! Steve Lutz was apparently open to the UTSA job last year. I like Steve Lutz. I'd be thrilled with Steve Lutz. We should call Steve Lutz!
  24. I think if he wanted this job, he'd could have had it back 5 years ago, when it was way more appealing (assuming he wants to leapfrog to a power league) and the pay increase/guaranteed money bump was more significant. Now, he's already under contract through 2020, with guaranteed base salary (not counting incentives) ensuring him over a million more dollars. And that's not counting any raise or extension he may get after this year. I think he's a really good coach, I'd be happy to see him here, I'd have been happy to see him here when we hired Benford, but I don't think there's any way he's coming unless leadership changes at UTA and he wants to leave. Also, for anyone wondering... Darrin Horn makes $305k as an assistant at Texas. Roman Banks makes just under $200k, under contract through 2020 but with no buyout. We can't money-whip Horn, but we could give him an actual raise if he decided he wanted to be a HC again and was willing to try it here. If we went after Banks, we could literally double his money without spending a dime more than we pay Benford. Banks could be ready to move on, since he's almost certainly at or very near the top of what a SWAC school can budget for a coach, and this is his son's last year of college eligibility. Any of you guys that are sitting down for romantic breakfasts with Wren Baker or sitting within shouting distance of Jared Mosley... It's pronounced "Row-man". Make sure they know. Also, the associate head coach job Banks turned down at A&M (while his kid had years left to play at Southern) would currently be paying him $250k or $300k or $350k, depending on which coach he'd have taken the job from. Assume it's the top salary (that's what Stansbury made before leaving for WKU and a $500k salary), and we'd still be offering slightly more money than he gave up to keep coaching his son and running his own team. Neither of which would factor in as a drawback to taking our job.
  25. Nobody can put the brakes on the Howitzer.
