  1. They did that because of adjusting to the Derrick Roland injury. When we played them, Roland scored double digits and played over 30 minutes. We played a better Texas A&M team than the one their Big 12 opponents did.
  2. We're still doing anywhere from one to three per year, probably to finance the guarantees we have to pay to fill out a home schedule.
  3. Don't forget the cheerleader in the top corner, too. And be glad you only got a negative from one person. I'm filled with rage after seeing our season end yesterday, and I don't like seeing Scrappy slandered, either.
  4. Desmond Yates sat out his first year as a redshirt. His first year on the floor, as a redshirt freshman, he played 24.7 minutes per game, 2nd in minutes per game among all MTSU's frontcourt players. Yates averaged 10.9 points and 4 rebounds. He was one of only 2 Blue Raiders to average more than 8.7 points per game. Jacob played as a true freshman and only averaged 13.5 minutes per game. If you take his averages and extrapolate out to the same amount of time Yates played as a redshirt freshman (not a perfect measure, but a reasonable approximation for the sake of comparison)... Jacob would have averaged 8.8 points and 4.4 rebounds. Considering what Jacob did as a true freshman getting irregular minutes backing up a dominant frontcourt and with a lineup full of other, preferred scoring options... I'm very optimistic about his future. I'm not saying he's going to develop into the next Desmond Yates. But I think that if you take his numbers in context, Holmen didn't have too bad a year. It'll be interesting to see how the minutes are split next year between him, Kedrick, and Alonzo Edwards.
  5. "Pepperoni Uber Alles".
  6. I wasn't going to say anything about it, but since the seating frustration has already been brought up... Our seats were not only up in the ionosphere- We also had an obstructed view. From our 5 assigned seats, you couldn't see 30-50% of the damn court because of the fencing and staircases. Thanks to the good folks who slid down the row so we wouldn't have to go sit in the corner baseline upper deck section just to see the freaking action. Terrible... Just terrible. I don't blame the Athletics folks for the godawful layout and the allotted tickets... But next year, I'm going to wait for a section guarantee before I buy from anyone. There were open seats in the lower section on the baseline that cost the exact same amount as what we paid.
  7. Strap- God wants you on that floor.
  8. Strap- put Ollie on your shoulders.
  9. Not unintentionally. We had two of the greatest coaches in our history here for both major sports at the same time. But the gamble one of them took basically screwed over the legacy of the other one. Not completely... But significantly. It's unfortunate, for sure. I wonder where the basketball program could have gone if we'd had any affiliation and earned NCAA bids at least some of those 3 years.
  10. Second all the Blakeley love. He deserves the respect and accolades. But... During this run of JJ's 20 win seasons, the Belt hasn't been the 21st ranked conference. We've had a bad year in OOC, but RPI wise, we've been pretty respectable the other years. 15th one year, and that was just 16 ten-thousandths of a point behind the West Coast Conference (Gonzaga's home). As for the lack of an automatic bid, I wish we'd had a chance at one. Blakeley and his teams deserved it. I think you have to blame the lack of conference affiliation on the AD at the time.
  11. Just to clarify, because I didn't want to give the wrong impression through the joke I made... I don't have any problem with the man. He didn't fire Dr. B, and I don't envy the odd and uncomfortable situation he's dealing with. But the guy shouldn't have been called upon to give a speech if that's what he was going to say. It's not a Lee Jackson/Dr. B thing, it's a matter of having nothing relevant to add.
  12. Wouldn't be surprised to see us start a home-and-home with Tulane, either. They're shopping for a series now, and we'll have 2 extra OOC games to play next year because of UNO leaving.
  13. Agreed. Not just any interim president would have bothered to listen to his wife half-heartedly yelling SBC Tournament final game results at him as he left the toilet. But this one did. We need more pro-athletics people like him.
  14. He married a Greek woman, so he's obviously got good judgment in at least some situations.
  15. You guys missed a HELL of a play-in game. Probably. I don't know, I didn't watch it.
  16. But it IS a Sun Belt tournament pick'em... So stupid rules to determine who finished 1st would seem perfectly appropriate. Who finished 3rd? And how could that be used to screw the rightful winner over?
  17. Quoner is going to be stuck in Mexico City on Thursday. And Mean Green Man doesn't fly solo, he travels in pairs or packs. So I doubt I'll get any broadcast attention.
  18. I'd just like to point out that I've spent the past 36 hours as a proud member of their forum, making jokes about Mormon child sex abuse, Charles Whitman, Carlton Dotson, segregation, the A&M bonfire disaster, and sumo wrestling with KSU alum Kirstie Alley. And, if I understand their native tongue correctly, I think they're about to endow a scholarship in my name. I've used pretty much every weapon in my comedy arsenal to mock their school as a 3rd rate athletic program from a 2nd rate conference, to joke about their 3 losses to Kansas, to generally lump the entire midwest together as a flat, bland, homogeneous wasteland of whiteness. I called the state of Kansas "Nebraska's poop trench". And the love fest is so overpowering that I think I probably ought to get an STD test after Thursday. Seriously... The mutual appreciation over there is so over the top, I've had to stop a few times to think things through and make sure they aren't pulling an elaborate hoax on me. If I didn't know they were only smart enough to manage a K-State education, I'd think it was all a put-on. If there's anything I've learned from this week, it's that "you people" (and you know exactly who I mean when I say "you people") aren't ready for a move up in conference affiliation. I'm a god among those sad, wheat loving people. Maybe they've never seen an olive skinned person before. Maybe they're just amazed by my ability to juggle multi-syllabic words. I don't know... For a bunch of meth-addicts stuck in the middle territories that the rest of America would rather just forget... These K-State people are pretty okay. They're gracious hosts, and they certainly know how to take a joke in good spirit.
  19. WOW. That is some intense comedy, man. Plus one for as long as it lasts.
  20. I'm still outraged, and that logic does nothing to soothe me. If whipping Kent State is such a big deal, the National Guard should get more respect than the Navy SEALs.
  21. But it will be some of the happiest money we've ever spent.
  22. I'm sure that should the day ever come when Morgan announces his intention to leave UCLA, George will be rooting for him to come here as hard as any of us. But until then, he's probably gritting his teeth each time you or I bring up J'mison's name.
  23. Somewhere, right now... untgeorge is scowling in his sleep, having troubled dreams. And he doesn't know why.
  24. It's a fake name. He had to change it, or Janet Reno would have shipped him out of the country again. "Frank Martin" =
  25. My mistake. I think I might have been getting them confused with Middle Tennessee, too. That's the school where the dudes were making out at a basketball game, right?
