We already have two primary contracts. Based on the conference's recent proven history to provide eligible teams, those and one secondary tie-in are the most contractual agreements we can enter into per the NCAA. That's what ArkStFan said on the SBC board, anyway.

So, what you're saying is... A person ought to have actually committed a crime before being punished for criminal activity, and even then ought to have the opportunity to defend him or herself against the charges of their guilt in a court designed to protect people from faulty accusations and abuses of centralized power? Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Who's Your Qb Coming Out Of Spring?

If I were Tune's dad or Thompson's dad, I'd be on the phone daily with Dodge and Canales, campaigning for the other guy's son to get the job. Starting QBs for our school can count on crippling injury, academic dysfunction, persona-non-grata status and two years worth of cold shoulder, exile to the special teams unit, or threats of position change used as a tool to push them out of their scholarship. Being a starting QB for North Texas is not a growth industry. It's like being the extra guy on the away team in Star Trek or the drummer in Spinal Tap. If I had a son, I'd feel safer seeing him grow up to clean whale tanks at Sea World than start at QB for the Mean Green.

It's not that he can't redshirt in a future year... You've got that part of it correct. If Dodge and Canales decide to redshirt him this season, he'll still have 3 more years to play 3 seasons. The issue that caused all the controversy is that by using him for just 4 plays, that 4 play drive was all we get from one of his maximum four years of eligibility. So while he can redshirt this year, he'll still only have 3 years of eligibility years left. One fourth of his college career will be the one drive at the end of an all-but-over game that concluded a 10 loss season. When we decided not to redshirt Vizza, the guy started 8 games out of his freshman season and saw mop-up duty in 2 others. When we decided not to redshirt Riley, he would have potentially played 11 out of 12 games that season. Once he suffered his season ending injury (wink!) in week 4, he wound up qualifying for a medical redshirt anyway. But Thompson didn't start 8 games or have a chance to play in 11. He got 4 plays. One quarter of all he'll ever have the chance to do as a college player totaled one minute and seventeen seconds. Agree with the decision to play him or not, I don't think anyone disagrees that the lost year of eligibility is very unfortunate.

Don't forget how he'd spent 3 years as the offensive coordinator relying extensively on stop routes at the line of scrimmage, so that any DC that had ever seen any game tape on us would know they could potentially have their CBs just jump the route at the line of scrimmage and then have a wide open path to the end zone. Damn that Tune... I'm glad we replaced him with Canales.

It's not my position, but... Just going by averages: Most of them seem to survive a year or less over the past half decade. If it weren't for Thompson's three minutes of action, he'd be potentially (off the top of my head) the 5th freshman to start at QB for us in the past 6 seasons.

I'd buy two of them. But only if the logo includes Josh White slaying a dragon with the Sword of Greyskull.

Green Gang: Mangrum Excelled On And Off The Court
TheTastyGreek replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Nope. Because he's graduated, and because he's transferring to a school that offers graduate education in something he can't study here (law), then he can play right away. No sit-out year required under this sort of transfer. If you followed us a few years ago, we got a transfer named Dez Willingham under the same circumstances. -
It's a lovely visual... I need to go to Daytona Beach and get that airbrushed on a T-shirt.
-
No, we don't get any bonus points for having a guy graduate early. But, because he's leaving as a graduate to pursue law education (which we don't offer yet), this doesn't even cost us a point for him leaving. It's just like if he'd graduated and gone on with the rest of his life.
-
He didn't quit, he's graduating. He anti-quit, and now he's going elsewhere because he's got more not-quitting in him. You'll be missed, Collin.

RPIs of 151, 187, and 243. I agree that I'd rather play home-and-homes in the same year with any of them rather than take a guarantee game from another non-Power Conference team like Boise State... But we'd still hear the griping about our RPI and the lack of marquee opponent name appeal. -
I agree with ADLER. I think we can and should be able to recruit and find space for both of them. But, if I had to choose one and only one... I'd go with Babb. Even though 6'10" guys don't grow on trees and we've just gotten a verbal from a very promising shooting guard... Babb has already gone out and averaged just under 10 points per game playing for a Big 10 team. A crappy Big 10 team, to boot. He's a sure thing. The guy can play very well against top level D-1 opponents. He's already proven it for an entire season. I think Morgan could be a great player here, at least as good as Martavious Adams at ASU or something similar to what Wooden or Odufuwa brought to the table as D-1 transfers. Possibly much more if he's properly motivated, which I think he would be. Especially considering how his circumstances (and options) have changed in 2 years. But if I had to have one, and only one, of those two guys... I'd lean towards Babb. Take the proven commodity. Though I do want both.

Butler winning is worth $245 (the difference between 1st and 2nd in a bracket pool). So I'm rooting for Duke. But I'll be happy for Butler if they win, too.
-
I'm not going to say it, but I bet 75% of you are already thinking it.

Duke vs. Butler. A night of white-on-white violence.
