  1. If you guys were really serious about getting him hired, you'd have transcribed it for those of us who couldn't listen. Shape up by next week, or I'll recommend he disown you.
  2. Just to clarify, I mean that neither Patterson nor any of the mentioned Boise State coaches (Koetter, Hawkins, and Petersen) took over a program that was "down" in anything remotely resembling the sense that ours is. Patterson inherited a team that was 10-1 when he took the reins. He's done a hell of a job for himself since then, but he didn't take over a program that was unsuccessful at the time he got the job. At BSU, even Koetter took over a team that was just one game under .500 and only two years removed from a 7-4 record. Boise State has never had more than two losing seasons in a row, and they've only even had back-to-back losing seasons twice in program history. In fact, Boise State has only had 5 total losing seasons in 43 years of football. 1986, 1992, and 1997 (all just one game below .500), and 1993 and 1996. I'm not opposed to Canales getting this job under the right circumstances, as I've mentioned elsewhere on the forum earlier today. But the success of Patterson/Hawkins/Petersen (or even Koetter, in my opinion) doesn't have much commonality (or relevance, in my opinion) with the hiring situation we're facing right now.
  3. I would like for us to NEED one at the new football stadium.
  4. If June Jones isn't a workable example, how about Frank Solich? George O'Leary? Hell, in our own conference, Howard Schnellenberger has done quite well for himself at FAU. Above .500 in D-1, almost 2 out of 3 in conference, and two bowl wins with a startup program. And those are just three active ones I can think of off the top of my head. I think part of the reason you can't remember many examples is that a lot of coaches decide to retire rather than drop back down the ladder. Also, it seems like the shelf life of coaches is a lot shorter than it used to be and a lot of the guys who make names for themselves still end up on a short leash our out the door entirely after one or two not-quite-stellar years. If you're Fran or Leavitt, and you're not even 60 (or 55, in Leavitt's case)... And football is something you love and desperately want to get back to, but the fifty or sixty BCS jobs are probably never going to be open for you unless you work your way back up to them... It's a different employment universe than what was out there even 10-20 years ago. And I don't think it's fair to compare rebuilding programs to situations like TCU or Boise under successor coaches where the guy was already there and building from a foundation of success.
  5. You should really tap the brakes and stick to football critique. Right now, there are only 9 non-BCS basketball teams I'm jealous of: Gonzaga, Xavier, Butler, Memphis, BYU, Utah State, Akron, Nevada, and San Diego State. If you can tell me why, then you'll know what it means to say another basketball program has passed us by. Until then, no bashing Johnny Jones. Didn't mean to hijack.
  6. There are a lot of people on this forum who have different opinions on what we ought to be looking for in a head coach than I do. I think Lifer and Kram are pretty intensely anti-Franchione (If I remember right... Sorry if I'm wrong, gentlemen). And 93-98 has a very different take on Jeff Bower than I do. Even though they have different opinions, I've still been reading and listening to what they have to say. I may not agree, but I'm listening. But I've decided to ignore pretty much everything Head Coach HSO-related that I see from members who joined this forum after August of this year. Unless I've met them in person. And I'm pretty skeptical of anyone who has only been around starting after January of this year, too. Welcome to all our new fans and thanks for being a part of the community. I'll start really giving a damn about your thoughts and opinions when the next major decision on our football program comes around. If you're still here then, that is. In the meantime, I'll be at every home basketball game and many of the road ones if anyone wants to stop by and say hello. Bring a driver's license or a birth certificate.
  7. Was it Brett Vito?
  8. That is putting it quite mildly. I've seen Big and Tall stores, but I've never heard of a Short and Fat store. If any existed, they could have done gangbusters business with a merchandise table last night. As for Canales, maybe the only thing I don't like about his presence at UNT is the friends and family that followed him here and onto our forum. I'd rather hear about the magic and wonder of windmills than read some of the shameless, obvious crap that's been getting posted lately.
  9. People... It's time to stop focusing on minor concerns like band volume. Osama Bin Laden stole $2 TRILLION from the City of Indianapolis this week. Where is the outrage???
  10. Expect 4 of them. 5, if someone gets an ACT score in time.
  11. It means the Ducks are going to smear the floor with their opponents.
  12. Troy brings pretty much nothing but heavy brass and drums. If we had a group of 40 kindergartners banging pots and pans together, it would be louder than our band, too.
  13. Riley is 22. But otherwise, what you said x2.
  14. Or Nathan Tune's backyard.
  15. You are wrong, sir. Very wrong. Get on up, it's Bobsled time. I hope JQ fulfills his lifelong dream of living in Buckingham Palace.
  16. You should really reconsider about writing for public consumption. This doesn't even register on the criticism scale, and you really don't seem to be handling things well. If you're taking it this badly, you should consider just getting a diary. With a lock on it, just to be extra safe.
  17. They've both been at it with that production crew for at least 4 years now.
  18. Sorry I missed this. Not bad for the start of the year... I'd have put us ahead of UCSB and Ohio, but probably behind Siena and Creighton. Until we do it again or (hopefully) show even more this season, this is a great spot for us.
  19. You know what else is an interesting event? That SciFi convention that some guy always stops by to let us know about every six months or so. When is the next one of those?
  20. This doesn't even rank in the top 5 stupidass threads I've read on this site in the past hour.
  21. He's also apparently not going to sign early, and he'll spend an entire HS season playing with (and hearing from) Jordan Williams before he makes a decision in April. I'm not holding my breath, but unless Henry inks somewhere in 2 weeks, I wouldn't rule us out completely.
  22. I don't see nuttin' wrong... With a little soldier patriotism.
  23. If you look up the word "Classy" in the dictionary, I think you'll find that the definition is an armed servicewoman, in uniform, singing "God Bless America" in the style of an R.Kelly sex jam.
  24. The California JUCO system that put him in their hall of fame agrees with you.
