  1. We were never up 24.
  2. Anyone know why we didn't introduce him to the crowd at halftime? He was there, and he and Rick walked out the tunnel with less than 2 minutes to halftime. I was sure we were about to get a big public welcome... And then, nothing.
  3. Yeah, agree that there is no way we had fewer than 3k in there tonight. My first guess was 4k, +/- 200 people.
  4. Jordan is not going to play as a 4, he'll be a TT style 3.
  5. No actual journalist working in this market would ask that question at that event.
  6. Who was the dumbass that started asking Canales/player questions to RV in the middle of the Q&A? NTTV, KNTU, or NT Daily? Embarrassing, stupid, and very inappropriately timed. Edit: But RV handled it and shut it down very well.
  7. "I'm going to go out and recruit the biggest, fastest defensive players I can find. And I'm going to tell them that if Johnny Jones tries to leave the Denton city limits, they need to tackle him and drag him back to his office."
  8. MWC, yes. Otherwise, they just choose not to participate or be included.
  9. Before anyone freaks out more than this bad news deserves... Alzee did not play at all outside of the exhibition game. He will be able to redshirt (since he played last year as a true freshman) and will return next year as a RS Sophomore. EDIT to clarify: A traditional redshirt, not a medical redshirt that would need NCAA approval. Just like what we did with an injured Kedrick Hogans last year.
  10. But most of those other campus facilities wouldn't book out the arena for a high school robotics competition the night of our season opening game. It's only a problem because it's a problem. And here... It's a problem.
  11. And for anyone who wants more regional games against C-USA schools... It won't be anywhere near the struggle to schedule them when we'd be scheduling DOWN to bring them in. They may not play us now, but they'd damn sure play us if we had a conference leg up.
  12. The MWC is above the red line. CUSA isn't. The MWC had three at-large bids to the NCAA tournament last year. To get three total at-large bids from C-USA, you have to go back six years. In 2006-10, C-USA had two total at-large bids. They probably wouldn't have only had one if Houston hadn't snuck in and stolen their tournament last year. In 2005, C-USA had three at large teams... They were Cincinnati, Charlotte, and UAB. Louisville got their auto-bid. Three of those teams are gone now. MWC has better football and will continue to have better football. C-USA, even with a better visibility TV deal, doesn't get anywhere near the respect that the MWC does. If there's any possible way we can get into that league, we need to knock down walls... Move heaven and earth to do it. MWC membership would be HUGE. I know everyone gets their dong stiff over how C-USA would be a boon to attendance and fan interest (didn't see as many of you as I'd have hoped when we hosted a C-USA bball team last week, though...). But MWC is better in every way but travel. Screw the travel, though. I still want the MWC.
  13. Road games are great this year, too. Texas State in San Marcos last Saturday, Texas Southern in Houston this Saturday... It's been a great schedule this year from a fan perspective.
  14. Just to spoil the surprise... It turns out the non smoking vegetarian is HITLER. I hope you've all learned something about something. Draw your own conclusions. Hitler lovers.
  15. Nobody can delete posts anymore. Not sure when that changed, but I noticed it for the first time about a week ago.
  16. Well, we know ULL has a trailer for football. And we know how that worked out for Leavitt and Canales at USF. Could be interesting.
  17. Evan Robertson did pretty well with his opportunities, too.
  18. I'm just pointing out that in the past 10 seasons, we've had 4 backs who were very, very good to super great. Wilburn was just outside that range, I thought (didn't he finish up in 2000?). True that Cam didn't put up the stats, but part of the reason for that was because he got dinged up at the start of 2009 and gave way to Lance Dunbar. Take his last 12 games as the frontline starter and he had 1100 yards, most of those coming in the 2008 season when we spent most of our time playing from 3 or 4 scores down. Anyway... If there's one thing we haven't had much trouble with lately, it's finding viable running backs. And earlier this year, people were asking why Hamilton wasn't getting more carries. If we lose Dunbar, it'll be disappointing, but we'll survive just fine. Hamilton or Byrd or someone else we bring in this year that beats them out for the job will step right in and produce. I don't think Dunbar is leaving, though.
  19. It's nice that the players finally got a chance to play under a guy who had at least some concept of how to coach a college team. Even though they only knew him for less than a year, they got attached when someone motivated and inspired them. If Canales could do it that fast, I think McCarney can win players over, too. And anyone who suffered through the past few years that decides they want to pack it in and leave, even though we've finally got a real college head coach coming in here, and we're finally going to get to play in a palace of a stadium instead of the poopheap that was Fouts... Well, happy trails to them. And thanks for whatever they did to help generate the 8 wins we saw over the past 4 years. I think that whatever Canales did to forge player relationships in 9 months on campus and 6 weeks as a head coach, McCarney can do, too. And if Dunbar or anyone else doesn't want to play for a head coach other than Canales... Then I don't think they'll be playing D-1 football next season. I'll miss anyone who wants to leave, and I hope they'll change their minds. But if they want to go, let them go. Sticking with Dunbar, since he's obviously the star of the team coming back next year... If Dunbar doesn't want to play for McCarney, then James Hamilton or Brandin Byrd will. Galbreath led to Cobbs led to Jamario led to Cam Montgomery led to Dunbar, and Dunbar will lead to whoever the next guy is. We'll be fine.
  20. That makes one of us, I guess.
  21. This isn't one of the Canales family idiots. If I remember right, this is the thin-skinned guy who bows up and starts getting pissy whenever someone says anything remotely critical or corrects mistakes in his NT Daily articles.
  22. I haven't seen this anywhere on the forum, but apparently Paul McCartney has accepted our head coach job. People love the Beatles... Should raise casual interest and boost donations.
  23. Alex Vouyoukas update?
  24. We didn't play well, but gutted out a win anyway. Fun fact (credit to NT03 for pointing it out): First half, we shot at the basket with that giant, blank, off-white wall right behind it. First half field goal percentage: 35.7%. Second half, we shoot at the basket with a traditional backdrop of seating and fans (10 of them). Second half field goal percentage: 69.6%. When we didn't have to shoot at the freak basket, our shots went in twice as often. Twice last year, we played road games against in-state opponents with freakish venues: Rice and UTA. Both times, we shot poorly but gutted out wins. Rice has one basket with a backdrop of a clear glass wall that you can see all the way through the lobby and out the doors. UTA has the weird theater walls that both look a lot like the Albino Monolith Wall at Texas State. If this year doesn't work out, it's going to be due to injuries and fatigue. Just like last year, 'unnecessarily' close wins and 'playing down' against inferior competition won't mean jack when it matters. If we 'play down' but still win, I don't care. We didn't play down against Tech, and I doubt we'll do it against LSU. As long as we do what it takes to beat the opponent on the floor against us on any given night, that's all that matters. For RPI purposes, home wins have a 0.6 multiplier. Road wins have a 1.4 multiplier. There is no RPI bonus for 'style points' or margin of victory. Until there is one, I don't care if we win every game by one point on a last second shot. We just need to keep winning. If we win, it's a win. The fact that we came from behind against Texas State doesn't bother me. The fact that we had to play basically a 5 man lineup the whole game does. But at the end of the day, we're 4-1 and counting, and even the experts are projecting us to finish with 4-7 losses. Is this sort of lineup sustainable? Probably not. I don't think so, at least. But then again, I didn't think we could survive when Kendrick Davis punched out a window after the UTA game back in 2006. But instead of folding up, we went on a 9-2 run. Right now, even if we end up with a 7 man rotation... Even if Holmen doesn't develop, if Alzee doesn't play, if Spencer stays injured... We've got a team that has already proven they can beat anyone we play this season (that isn't a potential NCAA #1 seed) and has proven they absolutely refuse to lose. I'd always be happy with more... But looking at what we've got, I'll take it. And I still like our odds this year.
  25. McGee went to Paris because of academic issues that only fully came to our attention after he had already enrolled AND started classes. Draw your own conclusions, but I read that situation as one that isn't likely to result in him being given the opportunity to come back, even if he could and would like to do so.
