Payback for Brandon Peters and Caden Dickerson?
-
We are not one of the top 25 teams in the country. We just are not. But, we might start getting some votes if we win out through LSU and get to 11-1. We'd have wins over two BCS level teams and our only loss would be to a top 5 or 10 squad. There's no way we'd be ranked, but we'd start getting votes and attention. If UALR can get one more quality OOC win against Mississippi or Akron and we win out through that game on the 30th... There's a slim chance that we could be on the cusp of a ranking to start the new year with a 13-1 record (meaning... one of the top 7 or 8 in the "other receiving votes" category). If we can get out to 15-1 or 16-1, then we might get ranked. That's what Northern Iowa had to do last year to get in. If we can get to the end of January without losing, then I think we'll be in even though we aren't one of the 25 best teams. At that point, we would be 21-1 (19-1 vs. D1 opponents). We would have gone a full calendar year with two losses, both of them coming to ranked teams (both in the top 10). We would be on a 17 game home win streak, a 19 game overall win streak, and we will have won 31 straight games against teams outside the top 10. Do I think we're going to get there? No, I don't think we're going to get out to a 21-1 start. But... If we stay healthy, there are only 3 real significant threats on the schedule between now and then. One is tomorrow at SHSU. One is on the road at LSU. And the other is at home against UALR on New Year's Eve Eve. THIS IS ALL JUST THINKING OUT LOUD. THE ONLY REASON I'M MENTIONING IT IS TO ANSWER THE HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION. Let downs happen, all of those games will be difficult, and you damn sure don't want to start looking two months ahead. But if we can rise to the occasion for those 3 without having any slip ups against what seem to be lesser opponents... It's time to start building the statue.

Mean Green Vs. Sam Houston State

If he does, though... We need to commission a Sam Houston-sized statue for him outside the Super Pit. -
IF we can finish with a 3-5 loss record, and IF one other team (FAU? WKU? UALR?) maintains their OOC clip and finishes with 6-7 losses on the season... It's not even out of the question that we could fight our way up to 2 bids. Seriously. I've got spreadsheets and everything. The Tulsa, USF, and Mississippi State wins last week were HUGE. We need the rest of the league to start getting cheap wins as they transition out of money games and into win stuffers (SWACs and Indys). If we can maintain, if another team can keep pace with us, and if the rest of the league can go about 70% against the remaining lousy OOC opponents (this last one is the hard part)... This looks a lot like 2008.

Financially, we are not. Not even close. The conference isn't even 2/3rds of the way to the bare minimum budgetary threshold that people who actually do have a standard and metric for the "mid major" term use to separate the power conferences.

Henry had a Porsche? You'd think he'd have shared the wealth a little with Punky.

Has anyone found Brandon yet?
-
If he's anything like his dad, I hope he stays far, far away from our program. And if Charles Shackleford has a kid, that one can stay away, too.

Brilliant question.

Thank goodness for UALR this year. At least someone is exceeding expectations. The next time someone starts talking about how we need to consolidate to just the football schools and boot out UALR when Denver leaves... Remind them how nice it is to have a school where basketball is the main priority and the biggest sport on campus.

One last note and I'll call it a night And I don't want to start a big fight But we just use haikus To process bad news. Don't know why some folks can't get it right.

Your bad attitude leaves me stunned. It may not be "historically accurate fun"- But accusations of "gay"? I knew they were on the way... I just figured they'd come from P1.

No one here cares for your bitching. Can't stand it? Get out of the kitchen. To your meter and rhyme, I'll say one more time- You need to git sum more poetic pitchin'.

I'm a person of limited appeal- Think I've made YOU suffer an ordeal? Don't get all disjointed You think you're disappointed? Imagine how my future wife feels.

Meh... Typical smug liberal response.

He was here for the Tech game, and supposedly had a very good impression. His Rivals page is very, very out of date. I don't know what he's thinking, but even someone flat out asking him about his plans or his list of favorites at the Thanksgiving tournament got no real answer from him. Right now, it looks like he's nowhere near a decision.

Tackling the 10 game Saturday? Now THAT'S a contribution. Welcome back, you lazy hippie. FIU, Denver, and MTSU should be wins. Mark those down with CBL's no-eraser pencil. FAU and ULL should be slightly unfavorable coin flips. I'll write off the other four for being against better competition and/or featuring incurable Louisiana-Monroeism. I think Western and ULM (considering that a money sport game against La Tech is generally an SMU-style Super Bowl for them) could pull upsets, but USA and Troy are all but doomed. Four out of those nine (the three should-wins plus one of the two coin flips) plus a win from us would give us a .500 night. And we really ought to be able to get it, too. Worse than 5 out of 10 on the night, and it's yet another ugly black mark on the conference RPI.

NT03 and I are coming down from the metroplex on a down and back run. Others taking the ride with us are TBD.

The 26 game conference streak? The bowl games? The Big 12 upsets over Tech and Baylor? The year we had two national rushing champions returning to play in the same backfield? Breaking news reports from Subway? Wait, scratch that last one.

Only because Nick Goff left the team and stuck us with a shallow bench.

I was tracking another SBC game earlier this year where whoever it was had 30-40 points, but their leading scorer had zero points. That the way phone stats go, I guess.
