This one has regional TV coverage (Time Warner-NY), so keep an eye on Channelsurfing for a stream. There's only two NCAA games listed on there at the moment, and one of those is Malone College at Youngstown State. Hopefully FAU at Siena gets added closer to 6:30 central.

I don't have much of an issue with the non-D1 games this year. We had one as a tuneup for Tech and we have another so that we can have a home game to stay sharp in the week between Christmas and New Year's. If we had the attendance or budget to bring in another D-1 team during that week, I'd rather do that. But, since we don't, I'd rather we try to avoid a long layoff and stay at home rather than taking a holiday road game like the Boise State game we lost. Once the 150 rule is in place, nobody in the conference is supposed to be playing non-D1 schools.

Joe Scott actually said publicly that his goal is to have his team playing "best basketball" when conference play starts. No concern for OOC whatsoever. And Brady doesn't seem overly worried about anything happening in OOC for the second year in a row. For the record, Western has done a hell of a lot more than 2/3rds of the rest of the league combined. We said it in the podcast, but they're one of only 3 or 4 teams maximum that are above complaints from other schools in OOC performance this year.

There was some ULL fan on the Sun Belt forum who was chirping during the offseason about how the whole league was in for a big surprise now that Bob Marlin was in town. I'm not sure if this is what he meant... I don't think it is. But I sure am surprised. What a disgusting day for SBC basketball. Loss to an NAIA for ULL, FIU chokes and gives Bowling Green their first D-1 victory of the year (after 8 losses), MTSU looking at a 20 point loss to Furman. When the highlight of the day is a win against Houston Baptist by what's supposed to be one of your power teams... Terrible day. Terrible.

Troy never trailed after 2 minutes into the game... Until they choked it away with 1:09 left in the 2nd half. Turrrrrrrible.

Looked UGLY. Very, very scary moment. He gave a thumbs up to someone in the crowd, he was walking around after the game... But it looked like a major injury when he went down.

One could make a very strong case that this year, Sun Belt football was even worse than it was in the much maligned 2001 season. If the Sun Belt is improving on the football field, I'm not seeing it. The only real change is that we're playing more conference games and that's helping get more teams bowl eligible. Barely.

How would we classify Quincy Williams? He was a high school post, and I don't recall him coming in with even the same level of hype that accompanied Holmen. Kedrick Hogans was an undersized project when he came on board, and he's practically replaced all of Tramiel's production from last season (last I saw, within a point and a board of what Eric averaged last year). Considering how many of our recent posts come from JUCOs and transfers, and how rarely we've missed there (Tramiel, Wooden, Odufuwa), I'd say we aren't doing too terribly. Especially considering where we've been in the pecking order for game-ready recruits of size. We aren't batting 1.000 or anything... But to say we have no record of developing high school bigs seems inaccurate to me. Even Harold Stewart grew into a solid, reliable role player and quality defender.

88 Fiesta Bowl had an independent West Virginia in after an undefeated season, playing an unofficial national championship game against Notre Dame. I remember that one because they had a bunch of players sing the West Virginia fight song as part of the game presentation, and I still remember a few lines from it.
