  1. She was shot and killed(?) in a Safeway parking lot. I hope Matt Simon has a solid alibi.
  2. I don't care where he goes, either, just to reiterate the point someone else made. But I do think the guy (and particularly his family) are better suited for coaching at a high school. I don't mean that in any sort of talent or ability sense, I mean in terms of approach to the job and how he and the family handle the environment and surrounding criticism. Whether or not he will ever succeed as a coach at the college level, I don't know and I'm not trying to speculate. But based on pretty much every public comment he ever made in interviews and the things we hear (both good and bad) from players and parents, I think he'd be happier working with high school kids in a high school environment. High school, even as seriously as many in Texas take it, is also a much less intense spotlight with far less immediate and intense criticism than college ball. The criticism really seemed to get to Mrs. Dodge, especially in the last year and a half, and based on how she reacted to it I think she'd be happier with him as a revered figure at a powerhouse high school.
  3. King DL1 and I play golf every other Saturday. Whoever is trailing has to carry both bags. My back is very grateful for the reversal of fortune.
  4. Whoa, whoa, whoa... Think long term. Revenge is great, but you don't want to go +1-ing the best friend. That's a lifelong consequence.
  5. Open season right now. Quiet period starts on the 9th, dead period runs from the 10th-13th other than players already already under LOI for midyear enrollment.
  6. RealtimeRPI has us jumping 11 spots to 87 after last night.
  7. If Johnny Jones is still here in September, not even an 0-12 football season could take the smile off my face.
  8. Could this be the most short-sighted decision since Quoner and I allowed photographs of our Texas Douche halloween costumes to hit the internet? It might be. It just might be.
  9. I wish he hadn't given up on acting. He was brilliant as one of the Disco Boys in "Mystery Men".
  10. Hogans actually used a traditional redshirt, because he played as a true freshman and his injury occurred before he played in any games. Greenminer is either making a joke about how we never get approved for 6th year medical hardship exemptions, or he's making a wordsmith argument about how the medical hardship exemption isn't technically a "redshirt".
  11. I love how the "hijack!!!!" accusation comes from the guy who took a thread about Riley Dodge and turned it into a discussion about how Colorado's imaginary football dominance led to their Pac 10 invite. In any event, I think you ought to answer your own question: Yuk, yuk!
  12. I did buy a house just a few months back... Have I ever been photographed in the same place with that Denia guy? TYLER DURDEN TYLER DURDEN TYLER DURDEN.
  13. Why DID the Pac-10 want Colorado? Because they won 8 games in football 6 years ago? Because they've won 1 conference title in the past 20 years? How the hell does that fit in with your argument? Or was that a joke? A little "yuk yuk" for anyone masochistic enough to read the whole post thoroughly? FOOOTBAAAAAWWWWWWLL!!!!!! [aside: I wish we were gooder at foooooootbaaaaaaaawwwwwll, too. But given how terrible we've been, Basketball is the only thing that's kept this era of NT graduates remotely connected to the athletics program. Maybe some alums, too. ?]
  14. Thank goodness there's a smaller bus that JJ's driving, or we'd be dead right now.
  15. Total honesty? Right now, all I really care about in the world of Mean Green sports is George Odufuwa's ankle. It's amazing how far my level of football give-a-poop has plummeted since 2008. But yes, I do think this is an even bigger hit, given the circumstances and the alternatives, than Vizza's departure was.
  16. Nope, we've got two walk-ons, a guy with a shattered leg and roughly three drives worth of NCAA experience, and a JUCO transfer who started out at a 1-AA school.
  17. It's fill-in-the-blank, with answers already there to be circled. Also, is this really an appropriate haiku thread? I'm on the fence.
  18. Dear (insert QB name who transferred in January with 2 years of eligibility remaining) : I appreciate (insert specific game where you gutted out a solid performance despite taking a horrible physical pounding) and I'll never forget the excitement we had when you signed on to play for us in ( 1) 2007 / 2) 2008) . Seeing you sacrifice your body for a losing team was inspiring and humbling, and I'll always be grateful for the courage you showed on the field. To hear that you've decided to transfer away from a team that needed you so badly is heartbreaking ( 1) but completely understandable / 2) and an obvious sign of deep moral failing) . I know it wouldn't have been the same for you to try and carry on here without your ( 1) father / 2) best friend) , and I ( 1) totally understand / 2) hope you die of syphilis) . You gave a commitment to this team. You gave your word that you'd fight and struggle alongside your teammates. Those other guys were relying on your impressive physical talent and leadership. But instead, almost at the end of the window this team has to replace you, you've decided to move on and look for a fresh start somewhere else. ( 1) It must have been hard, but I respect that difficult choice and I say: "good for you". / 2) Die, die, die you godless animal, I hate you with ever fiber of my being. In the end, there's one thing we can all agree on as members of the North Texas family: Most of the blame for this probably belongs with your dad.
  19. The issue with Bracketbusters is that you give away a game at the end of the year (what would usually be the heart of your conference stretch run) completely to ESPN's whims. This year, 114 teams are committed to Bracketbusters games, but only 11 games will actually air. The 92 teams that aren't televised "will compete against each other through the same three days." Playing Old Dominion in Saturday primetime is unlikely. What's more likely (based on the experience of teams that have actually gone through it) is we end up traveling midweek to Weber State, then hosting UC-Santa Barbara the next year, and don't ever make TV. If you're not a "name" mid-major team like Wichita State or Creighton and you aren't having a year like what we're having right now (only maintained for another 6 difficult and unlikely weeks), ESPN has a tendency to just smash you together with whatever other team is under contract and dumping you off to the side. Western got hosed the one time they did Bracketbusters, and their administration has sworn it off entirely. When it comes to building and maintaining a quality, respected basketball program... I would generally adhere to their line of thinking.
  20. He's holding out from an offer from a Jayhawk Conference team.
  21. The Travelodge can't hurt you again this year. It's going to be better for you this year. 10 deep breaths, go to your happy place, and try not to think of the Bad Hotel again.
