You aren't. I like Cam, and his dad is one of my favorite people at road and tournament games. Cam can play strong, physical post defense and score on 2nd chances like Hogans has done all year. Anyone who wants him out to free up the ship should stop and remember what happened to us when Mangrum walked out the door. If the NCAA gives him another year, I'll take it and be damn glad to have an experienced post who can play a necessary and not always easy to fill role.
-
Whether you want him or not, they've already said they'll pursue a 6th year for him. I mentioned "if" just to explain where the count was coming from. He's (EDIT: talking about Mitchell here) not on ship now, but we have to hold one for him for next year as though he were. As to NT03's question... Taylor is a year of JUCO away, so he wouldn't be on the table. If Nolan Dennis wants to come, Nolan Dennis gets a scholarship. That's my answer.
-
Don't have 2 more to give for sure. Josh/Dom/Tristan/George/Shannon are done. 2 ships are open through the season (Mangrum and McGhee). Jordan/Chris/Trey/Forrest/Walton are all signed. If Cam Spencer gets his 6th year approved, we only have on scholarship left to give (assuming Mitchell gets his grades and earns a ship for next year). And the correct answer is that it needs to go to Nolan Dennis. Colin would have wanted it that way.

Interesting Take From A Big Xii Blog
TheTastyGreek replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Oh, but I DID read your posts. Yesterday, you thought the news that would make it a "very good day" per Vito might be: So, somehow... a Verbal from an offensive lineman would be great. However, when it turns out to be a projected NBA lottery pick that's not verballed, but rather actually enrolled in school right now, that's a disappointment. It's not Vito's fault you decided the next day that a 38 word blog post (promising no more than possibly a "very good day") had gotten your hopes up too high for some sort of seismic upheaval of the universe. Or, of course, an uncommitted offensive lineman. That would have been cool, too... I guess. You really need to get off this already. -

Hey man, I'm sorry it wasn't a football announcement. Super sorry. SUPER DUPER SORRY. Come to a basketball game, free hug to cheer you up. But GET OVER IT. This is enormous and I'm sorry nobody else was stupid enough to be "angry" at Vito for not magically making this football news. (and please don't tell me you weren't upset it isn't football news, because you made your original 'screw Vito' post on the Football forum for no other reason that makes any sense)- 31 replies

Two weeks ago we had to skip due to work issues and schedule conflict. Last week, we recorded one and I got violently ill and wound up bedridden for 4 days as soon as we were done. It'll go up tonight as a "lost" edition. This week, we'll spend half our time talkin' Tony. Objectivity can suck it for one week.

The Mitchell News Has Made It To Missouri
TheTastyGreek replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Basketball
They're actually pretty gracious about it. Wishing him the best and sad he couldn't get through the clearinghouse. Big 12 rules wouldn't allow him to get eligible the way we're doing it here, even if he could pay his own way there for a year. -
Tony Mitchell In Process Of Enrolling @North Texas!

Which one is it? Patsevich? And I'm guessing Mitchell's situation with CLA would put him under 10.1 b? -

Not claiming to be an expert on Mitchell's situation, just throwing out what I had learned from Ross-Miller's situation. Hadn't really been keeping up with Mitchell since the Mizzou verbal, but I'll damn sure be trying to find out as much as I can on his situation now. -

And throw a few bucks or an Applebee's gift card at whoever processed him at the registrar's office, too. Can't forget the little people. -

He's what used to be called a partial qualifier because of the situation with his CLA transcript. By not going JUCO and choosing to try and post grades to clear as a student at a D1 school, the tradeoff is losing the year of eligibility and not being able to practice or play with the team until passing the clearinghouse. I'll try to find the NCAA link again. -
You're an idiot and a jerk. This is the #12 player in the country. Blake Griffin was ranked 23rd when Rivals had him as a 5 star. As someone else already pointed out, one draft analyst already has him penciled in as the 7th best prospect for the 2012 draft. This is the biggest deal we've ever had recruiting wise. In any sport. Ever. Bigger than the guy Fry pulled in that was ranked 1st in Texas.

Tony Mitchell In Process Of Enrolling @North Texas!
TheTastyGreek replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I did a lot of research on this when K.C. Ross-Miller enrolled at FIU... He loses a year of eligibility (can't greyshirt like in football, because the season isn't over in one semester) by going to a D-1 school and can't satisfy the clearinghouse until he posts a successful semester of grades. So barring a surprise ruling on his CLA transcript/Pinkston equivalency tests (that Mizzou couldn't force through in 7 months of trying) he won't play this year and we'll have him for a maximum of 3 seasons. -

Even if he is a one-and-done type... Profile is HUGE. I'd say our chances of replacing Kedrick or Alonzo with Prince Ibeh just skyrocketed. -

Held out till yesterday ( the last day he could enroll at Mizzou for the year) and had to give up. But he never enrolled, so he was never a student there, and he's not technically transferring from anywhere. Meaning he could play next year. -

Please come say hello. We miss seeing you guys. Also, I don't care if I get my rating reset to zero if tomorrow works out in our favor. I wouldn't care if I got BANNED. -

What To Spend That Cool 1 Million On?
TheTastyGreek replied to Andrew's topic in Mean Green Basketball
If RV wants to spend that money improving property that the Athletics Department doesn't own or control... I've been meaning to retile the shower. -
He's made great breakthroughs in theoretical mathematics, "proving" you don't need to count to 1 to break a tie. He gives North Texas an annual opportunity to recruit the fertile basketball territory of Kentucky. He got us a ton of publicity with that "memorandum of understanding" a few years back that didn't actually result in any Sun Belt teams getting a bowl that at least two thought they had earned. - - - - - On the other hand, he did force through the 150 rule. And he tried to convince us that hiring Dodge was a bad idea.

Thanks, I'm just glad to be able to think clearly and stand up without passing out. I wasn't really able to follow things very closely last week... Are we still a bunch of no good losing losers with no hope at all? Or are we going to the Final Four?

We're up to the 6th longest streak in the country now. Pitt lost at home tonight.

I'm repulsed by how this small handful of cabbies and Target cashiers are using their political clout and financial power to basically destroy the constitution. I think we can all agree that this plot is the most horrifying and destructive thing that people who call themselves Muslim have ever carried out within America's borders.
