  1. You've got no frame of reference here, greenminer.
  2. You, sir, have had a very strong day. I salute you.
  3. Did I ever tell you guys about the time in middle school when a Cub Scout troop staged a coup of the student government? Hideously repressive regime. Bloody mess, many lives lost. But while they ran things... Unlimited, delicious popcorn for everyone. And every bird that flew within 200 yards of the feeder was precisely identified and documented. I guess what I'm saying is... When a semi-militaristic organization starts using (some may say "abusing") their power, some people suffer. But maybe it ends up being an overall better world for society as a whole? Personally, I don't like neckerchiefs. But you take the good with the bad, I suppose.
  4. Because basketball recruiting news makes some people irrationally angry for no good reason at all.
  5. Show me the BYU QBs that did it before Ty Detmer. And if you can't find one, go steal the Heisman back from Houston QB Andre Ware.
  6. The football is a metaphor for Egyptian democracy.
  7. Few people realize that Pogo was actually based on Churchill. Fun fact; Marmaduke is actually a thinly fictionalized chronicle of Abraham Lincoln's life and political career. SPOILER ALERT: The final comic is going to be a MAJOR downer.
  8. We don't take kindly to quitters around here.
  9. I like to think of myself as a modern day Martin Luther King, Jr., only my "dream" is to get somewhere in a really big hurry. (Not really... I'm not much of a speeder.)
  10. To Iowa, though? Hayrides are not all they're cracked up to be. (Sorry, Quoner.)
  11. I would love to see us in the MWC, playing against those teams in basketball. And I think Steve Fisher has done a heck of a job with that program. What he's done in building them into a consistently powerful team is phenomenal. But it's been 12 years, he has zero NCAA tournament wins and only 3 berths, he's never gotten an at-large bid, he has one year with 13 conference wins and no others with more than 11, his overall conference record is the definition of mediocre (85-84). He'd never meet our lofty standards here.
  12. Works for me. Jesse- It is a far, far better thing that you do, than you have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that you go to, than you have ever known.
  13. Same train of "it's the walk-on's fault!" thought... Maybe it's Jamie Egenti's fault. This whole miserable run started when he got back on the roster. Human sacrifice?
  14. When your conference is struggling so bad that the regular season is basically irrelevant for your chances at making the NCAA tournament, getting an NIT berth is very significant. Even for very good teams that far outpace the rest of their conference, tournament basketball is very much a crapshoot and a cold night or unfavorable officiating can end your NCAA hopes. Making the NIT means you were the best team in your league during the long slog of the regular season. That means something. And considering we've never made it to the NIT, I wouldn't exactly go turning up my nose at the opportunity to play in it. Not that it's relevant to us this year, unfortunately.
  15. 1) At this point, I don't know who is overrating us. 2) The "beating a team of significance" thing is tired and meaningless. Utah State is ranked 17th, and who have they beaten? Diminishing the wins we do have doesn't seem as relevant a point (to me, at least) as seeing the terrible losses we have for what they are. The only "team of significance" on our schedule, if Tech and the road win at LSU don't count, was Kansas. They're 2nd in the country and only one team has beaten them. We can't beat teams that won't play us in worthwhile series. If the day ever comes that the football team manages to beat two BCS teams in the same year, I promise I won't swing by the football forum and talk about how meaningless the wins are because they came against teams that were 5-7. 3) I'd put money on us still winning 20 games. Not saying it ought to be a goal that makes this season satisfying, but despite it all I think we'll get there again.
  16. Serious question here... Did Josh re-injure his wrist? He seems hesitant to shoot from outside, he doesn't seem to be very successful (uncharacteristically so) when he does try, and all of what scoring he seems to be doing lately is on drives and lay-ins. Also, his free throw average is down. The only time in his 4 year career that he did worse from the stripe than what he's averaging this year was last season, when he was basically playing one handed.
  17. I refuse to let factual accuracy discourage me from borrowing a clever line. Though I do encourage you to point out to Western fans, at every opportunity and as loudly/hurtfully as possible, that MTSU has pretty much owned them across the board in all sports lately.
  18. It's WKU, not WKY. We're not NTU, and if there's any school in this league that deserves the respect of a properly stated name, it's Western Kentucky. Side note: WKU fan and occasional visitor Dahbeed has taken to calling MTSU "Mediocre Tennessee". I'm a fan of it and suggest we borrow the phrase when appropriate.
  19. Don't believe the hype, man. 2 sides to every story. That hurtful "Jews control the media" stuff all started with the Old Testament. Talk about your media bias...
  20. So, in this instance... We DON'T need to git sum pitchin?
  21. Not entirely. There was that game at Texas where Wooden demolished that guy's testicles with the basketball. That was pretty funny.
  22. Can we? YES.
  23. Last time Western lost two straight home games to MTSU was 1929.
  24. Also, getting back to the original post that started the thread... I don't like a 9 player roster, and I don't like having to play guys as long as we do. But the team that looked more "gassed" last night was FAU. Whenever we pushed the tempo, we outplayed them. I was grinding my teeth when extended foul/inbounds delays took us out of the rhythm we were establishing. I wish we would make more use of the "white press" that allowed us to pull out one or two games earlier this season where a rally couldn't have happened otherwise. Having a healthy Alzee might allow us to go to that earlier in the game when we need it.
