TheTastyGreek replied to Dr. Seuss's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
A tantalizing lower back tattoo can often be the most effective branding campaign. OR: This woman obviously knows the ins and outs of effective advertising. OR: Let's just hope this doesn't turn into a viral thing. -

Not sure about footballs, but I have it on good authority that exactly "1athleticsupporter" was involved. -

This definitely gives the "Good PR" folks something slippery to chew on. Is there anything worse than seeing our proud University with egg on its face? -

We've come a long way from people knocking Dickey for keeping "8 men in the box". -
2012 HS - Valentine Izundu - 6'10" C (Houston)
TheTastyGreek replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
Man... Raw doesn't even begin to describe his offensive skills. Watched some highlights on YouTube, and all the guy does is dunk and tip in loose balls. But shot blocking and defensive instincts? Wow. WOW. Watch this and tell me you wouldn't love to have him defending the paint for 3 or 4 years: He's moving in the paint, taking away the lane, blocking shots on drives and pull up jumpers, reacting to fakes and adjusting his jump to block or disrupt... Very exciting stuff to watch. Especially what he did against Ridley. My favorite highlight comes at about the 4:36 mark, when the shooter launches with one foot on the 3-point line, and Izundu jumps from behind the free throw line and still blocks the shot. It sucks that Ibeh and Rykhoek seem to be getting yanked out of our league... If we could get a guy like this as a Plan B, though... I'd take it and dance with joy. And remember, he's still barely old enough to drive. -
2012 HS - Taylor Luster - 5'10" PG (Hill JC)
TheTastyGreek replied to Harry's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
Luster was a member of the Texas Assault AAU team that just won a prestigious Las Vegas tournament. In a recap of July's GASO, Eric Bossi of Rivals wrote: -
High School: Cypress Lakes AAU: Houston Preps ESPN listing: 2 star, 88 grade, 33rd ranked Center in the class of 2012 (August 2011) Houston area recruiting site lists an offer from Houston, interest from Tulsa, North Texas, SMU, Colorado State, Marquette, Arkansas, and UALR. From the Houston Preps article: Izundu earned stellar reviews on his summer AAU performances, particularly his play in June's "Rumble in the Bronx" event in New York City. From NBE: ESPN's Adam Finklestein tagged him as a "Breakout Performer" at the same event:

2013 HS - Shirmane Thomas - 6'2" PG
TheTastyGreek replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
Rivals listing updated, now evaluated as a 3 star prospect. Offers listed from Houston, San Diego, and Texas A&M. (August 2011) Announced today (August 1st) over Twitter that he will be transferring to Dallas Lincoln. Former Lincoln star Keaton Miles apparently does not approve of the decision. -
2012 Hs - Zach Leday - 6'7" Sf (South Florida)

Rivals article about the July GASO lists LeDay as playing as a power forward. -
2012 Hs - Mason Wedel - 6'0" Pg (UMKC)
TheTastyGreek replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
Wedel's AAU team lost their state AAU title for the first time in 3 years. Very little news about his (or most of the other Kansas high school players mentioned) recruitment out there. -
2012 Hs - Phil Forte - 5'11" Pg (Oklahoma State)
TheTastyGreek replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
Forte was a part of the Texas Assault team that won a major AAU tournament in Las Vegas. There are a lot of articles out there about the team and the tournament. Some highlights: http://www.maxpreps.com/news/uNtAObgoEeCkhgAcxJSkrA/smart,-texas-assault-blow-past-dream-vision.htm http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/basketball/mens/story/_/id/6802720/marcus-smart-highlights-las-vegas-tournaments-day-4 http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/basketball/mens/story/_/id/6799527/marcus-smart-stands-adidas-super-64 At least one outlet named him to the all-tournament team: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/carl-berman/adidas-super-64-netscouts_b_913865.html And in a MaxPreps interview, he drops this nugget: Per his Rivals page, Forte has picked up a lot of offers during the summer AAU season. He now lists offers from Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and TCU. Additional interest from several power conference schools. (August 2011) A gated KU Rivals article mentions that both of his parents went to Kansas, and one of his lifelong dreams has been to go there, too. The Kansas Rivals writer says that Forte got an offer from them today (August 1st). -
2012 Hs - Niem Stevenson - 6'3" Sg
TheTastyGreek replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
Public Rivals article about the GASO. (July 11th) Confirms Stevenson as having a North Texas offer, also being recruited by Arizona, Arizona State, Texas A&M, Colorado, SMU, Houston, Missouri State and Clemson. Stevenson is active on Twitter (@niemstevenson) [Reminder: DO NOT CONTACT RECRUITS]. Not much recruiting relevant info, but anyone hungry for nuggets of info about who else is pursuing or whether he's made any announcements might want to follow. -
As greenminer pointed out in his football recruiting thread, Goines committed to Missouri as a football recruit. http://highschoolsportsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2011/07/keller-central-ol-simon-goines-reportedl.html http://kansasstate.scout.com/a.z?s=173&p=2&c=1087715&ssf=1&RequestedURL=http%3a%2f%2fkansasstate.scout.com%2f2%2f1087715.html

2012 HS - Jelon Hornbeak - 6'3" SG (Oklahoma)
TheTastyGreek replied to NT03's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
From July 21st, NBE lists a lengthy list of Big 6 offers. Hornbeak said in a June interview that he's planning on picking his school before high school season starts. The new NBE interview says the same thing... With a qualifier: -
2012 Hs - Prince Ibeh - 6'10" C (Texas)
TheTastyGreek replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
Looks like the competition for Ibeh is strong... Maryland is after him hard, especially now that Turgeon is there from A&M. A Maryland recruiting blog for the Baltimore Sun quotes another recruiting website: That's from July 15th. -

Mean Green Basketball Ranked
TheTastyGreek replied to collegesportsguy's topic in Mean Green Basketball
This is the main thing that keeps me optimistic about Walton. The fact that we wanted him, and him specifically, enough to make him a focus during early recruiting makes me think the coaches see something we can't get from stat sheets. As far as Alzee goes... He and Holmen were polar opposites as freshmen. Alzee passed up open shots and seemed reluctant to take a shot himself if there was anywhere else he could distribute the ball. Hopefully, now that he's not worried about deferring to guys like Josh and Tristan, he won't hesitate when shots are there for him to take. -
I think this is a bit that Lifer is doing. At least, it better be. Otherwise, I want royalties or a consulting fee.

1) No. 2) Yes, but not as long as the BCS controls college football.

That picture is terrifying. It's like a mugshot of Billy Ray Thornton after he tried to assassinate Calvin Coolidge. -
Why come is we even playing WKU at our new stadium? Didn't we build it so we could rotate between hosting Texas, Oklahoma, and LSU?
