My grandkids bought me the complete series of Diagnosis Murder on DVD. Once I figure out how to set my VCR to play them, you can come over and watch a marathon with me. Until 5:45, when I'll be calling it a night. Let's not fight. Can't we just agree that whether you prefer baseball over basketball or vice versa... At least both of them are better than watching soccer? Common ground?

To be fair... The "...in football" was pretty heavily implied. Still- For all the football "fans" who have been steaming for a decade over not being able to waggle their dong in the faces of co-workers, friends, and family... There's one other major college sport. And we're damn good at it. Every year, we win a lot and there's at least one major 'scoreboard' moment, whether it's a BCS win or an NCAA berth. Don't be afraid. Less than 9 weeks away now. We'll do some pre-season Peach Baskets to get everyone up to speed (I assume?), and nobody will know you haven't already been enjoying the ride for the past 5 years. Enjoy football for the new opportunities and the new beginnings. But, at least for this year, consider living vicariously through basketball instead of football.

I don't believe I heard that word out of McCarney's mouth once. Not in the postgame interview, not in any newspaper articles since.

ALSO IN 1975, North Texas got blown out 61-7 in a September game by a 7 win Oklahoma State team... If I didn't know better, I might reasonably assume that even teams on a positive track might just go out and have a godawful game once in a while in the early part of a season. ALSO IN 1988, North Texas lost 3 games to 1-AA opponents. Including a shutout in the 1-AA playoffs! THE OFFENSE GOT SHUT OUT!!! Horror of horrors! ALSO IN 1990, North Texas was coming off a defeat the year before to the same SMU team, then in their first year post-death penalty, when they'd otherwise gone 1-9! Lost by 26 on the road to arguably the worst SMU team in history... But winning by 7 the next year totally erases that shame. It's been one game. And yes, that game sucked. Realistically, I think we all ought to just take a few weeks and let this thing come together a little bit.
