Spoke with Coach Leonard
TheTastyGreek replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Basketball
If anyone really wants to shock us with a prediction... I'd be amazed if anyone can accurately predict 5-for-5 our starting lineup for game one. I don't know that I'd give my best guess more than a 15% chance of being right. -
1) New Peach Baskets coming around Halloween. We may need to scale back and work around CBL's child visitation rights and court-mandated community service schedule, though. 2) FIU's lineup isn't something to even think about projecting until halftime of the game in question. People swing and shuffle and dance in and out of there like a maypole at a railway whorehouse. Don't put money on anyone, coach or player, from year to year or week to week.

It's been 6 months... I was surprised, too. But, KingDL1 was laying low most of the summer, and CBL tends to polarize the forum members... I can see it. I doubt it holds up through football season.

Also... What's the deal with airline food? Right? Am I right, people?

Spoke with Coach Leonard

We have 4 returning players. All of them have injury flags. 1 missed the entire season, 1 missed the end of the season, 1 seems to have a chronic knee problem that may limit his effectiveness, 1 has a history of injuries and played through nagging problems all of last season. 9 guys are new, 4 of them are freshmen, and our consensus best player has played roughly a week and a half of organized basketball in the past year and a half and won't be able to join practice until the week before Christmas. We play in a one-bid league that requires a 3 or 4 game winning streak to guarantee an NCAA appearance, and those games have to be won in what's essentially a home arena for 2 of the other strongest contenders in our league. Also, as everyone that's ever watched a Sun Belt game is painfully aware... Those games are likely going to be officiated by a group of dipwads who've never met a game they couldn't derail. I love this team, I have great hopes, and I think the sky could be the limit this year. But "guaranteeing" an NCAA appearance before the season starts? And then, backing it up by being abrasive to a group of the most green-eyed cheerleaders this program has? It's pointless to say I'll leave that job to someone else, because it's already been filled. If the potential of cobbled together raw talent were enough to guarantee anything, Florida International would have gone undefeated after Christmas and put up a hell of a fight in the NCAA tournament. Great potential "guarantees" nothing. Great potential plus a proven coach plus a relatively weak league still guarantees nothing. There's a place for people to spend the offseason stroking each other on a messageboard over how great their basketball team is going to be... And that place is Hilltopper Haven. I'm all for enthusiasm, but I'm going to have to wait and see where we're at in the first week of December before I'm ready to jump to conclusions about where we'll be in the first week of January, to say nothing of March. -

Look on the bright side... It's nice to be called something besides apologists and Pollyannas, for a change. I JUST WISH THERE WERE A CURE FOR INTERNET VOICE IMMODULATION SYNDROME. -

Anyone (Not Named Ponymanx) Know About Jarion Henry?
TheTastyGreek replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Basketball
It'll be interesting to see who goes after him next year. EDIT: This year. I meant as a Class of 2012 recruit. -
They've been playing it at the start of the 4th quarter for years.

We set up on the south side of the stadium in Red/Blue. Loved it. If you guys want to set up near us for Indiana, let me know.

Agreed. I was less worried about rebounding than I was on being able to physically defend interior players. Hearing that Kedrick is so bulked up makes me feel a lot better. He tended to do pretty well for himself even early in his career, when he was giving up a lot of weight.

I couldn't even send/receive text messages outside of 4 or 5 short windows of network availability.

Awesome. Four and a half years ago, I remember we were all a little puzzled about a late verbal from an under-the-radar kid from Louisiana. When we signed him, he was listed at 185 pounds. Quite a physical transformation from the guy we were all worried would be too skinny to play the post.

2012 Hs - Chad Rykhoek - 6'9" Pf (Baylor)
TheTastyGreek replied to SUMG's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
Rykhoek was in attendance at the grand opening of Apogee. He was hanging around with Jordan Williams, Trey Norris, and a 3rd guy that I didn't recognize. -
I love the green helmets. I just don't understand why they have face masks. Makes it tough for me to see the player's faces; really distorts my view.
-
Someone obviously coached the bench players on how to wave their arms up to get the crowd on their feet and yelling. Whoever it was, I wish they coached DBs. Some of those guys play like they wouldn't put their hands up even if the receiver stuck a gun in their face. That's the only thing about today that really bothered me.

The other beatwriter asked Vito's opinion on the change under McCarney, and Vito answered the question. I think he restrained himself, if anything. If there's one thing we've learned about Vito from the podcasts... He can go on for a while when you ask him a question.

Marital discord update: Analogies comparing Ken Starr's stance on this situation to George Wallace's "Segregation Forever" speech are not only acceptable, but illuminating. What solidifies your base and galvanizes your constituency in the immediate present will make you and your institution seem absurd and foolish years down the line. A sense of righteousness and entitlement can't stop the inevitable. Baylor shall rise again?
-
Helpful advice: If you're married to a Baylor alum, and the topic comes up... DO NOT come up with analogy that equates Baylor to a barnacle. Your wife will not take it well, and the rest of dinner will be very, very unpleasant.

I'll be there, hopefully in the same seats. Glad to have an official date for this one.

And they were football only, not a full conference member.

Oh, I think he's going to be fine in the grill department. Ninjaface.

They didn't even spell it right! And WHY COME ISN'T THE LETTERS FURTHER APART?!?!
