If I've got my timeline right (and you grew up in Flower Mound), you started attending UNT sometime in 2007. You have no idea what the situation was like for our sports in the late 90's compared to how they changed when we joined the Sun Belt. I'm not claiming to be a school historian... But I know what things were like in 1998, and I know how different they were in 2002. As much as I look forward to moving on, the Sun Belt was and continues to be a critical life preserver and an essential foundation that allowed us to build (literally: the AC and Apogee) for a much brighter future.

Also, our trips to the NCAA tournament officially happened. You won't see any Sun Belt Conference logos hanging in Hot Springs for the years we've won the tournament.

We all talk about how little academics matter in modern college sports... But at some point, universities really do care about who they are affiliated with, and how that affects their academic reputation. It's why the Big 10 insists on adding AAU schools, it's why the Pac 10/12 was so hesitant to add some of the bundled-in schools with Texas and OU. Boise State was a junior college until the mid 60's. Boise State has a school of truck driving. It's one thing for a conference desperate to maintain BCS standing to offer them a football-only membership. It's another thing entirely for Texas and Oklahoma to say "join us, be a part of our identity, use your academic excellence to drive our equipment from state to state!".

I know what you mean here... But honestly, I wonder how we're going to keep all 13 guys on scholarship happy with playing time, to say nothing of walk-ons.

Don't know if he did or not... He's apparently friendly with some of the new guys and I think he was even on campus during the summer. NT03 saw a lot of chatter on Twitter about him walking on here. This was months ago, though.

Also, our official site spells Niko "Stojilkovic" differently than Rivals, ESPN, or any other team he's ever played for did (USF, Lon Morris, and the French National U18 team spelled it "Stojiljkovic", with a 2nd "j"). We'll probably be fixing something to do with him on the website soon.

Looking at the video... There's only one freakishly tall white guy I know of on the roster. MGSports says Niko is #30, but he wore #25 at Lon Morris and he has a blond buzz cut. Could be a number mistake or a change of heart. Also, the expected walk-on is/was Kyron Criner, a 5'11" black guy. I don't think he's the one wearing #25 in that video.

There's at least one walk-on that we've been expecting since early summer. Let me look for the name.

They aren't merging. They plan on doing something football related. Something. But if SMU moves up, none of the teams have a recruiting toehold in the Metroplex anymore. If CUSA or the MWC wants one, they've got one all-sports option left.

Exactly. Up is up. If it happens, I don't care if means someone else benefits, too. Whatever helps us grow and build is good for us. And this would be huge.
