Interview with Williams and Edwards
TheTastyGreek replied to chrisfisher's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I'm not trying to give you a hard time... But as great as that scene was, it was totally irrelevant to Jordan Williams joining our team. Jordan Williams signed his LOI on November 10th: http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=1800&ATCLID=205028627 The Texas Tech game was on November 16th: http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=303200249 -
Interview with Williams and Edwards

As great as that environment was... He had already been committed for over 2 months by the time that game happened. He verbaled in early September, and that game was 2nd week of November. -
We play a lot of sports. Some of them we're actually pretty damn good at. CUSA membership would be a big boost to those sports.

Also, El Paso gets no market credit for anything south of the border. If Juarez counted the way every other non-border city gets credit for territorial population... El Paso would be somewhere between market 24-26... Between Pittsburgh and Charlotte. If "market" is the consideration, El Paso is a much BBD than Northern Louisiana.

Two conferences that have relied on DFW exposure for recruiting and publicity are completely out of other options. Either both conferences abandon their foothold here, or we're moving up. Sucks that SMU gets a promotion, too... But whatever it takes for us to get up a rung on the ladder. We can't move up without moving up. And if that won't happen without SMU moving to a BCS conference (that still seems precarious and deeply divided)? Well-

Skully is fine. I forget the name of the guy who makes 8 threads a week any time a school launches a D-3 football program. He loves him some Kennesaw State, though.

Is ESPN Behind Expansion & Re-Alignment?

Is ESPN the next Seneca Wallace? -
It was when the SBC forum turned into nothing but Apostrophites pushing their name fight into everything and being generally intolerable, Troy fans ranting about "owning the Sun Belt" because they only lost 1 or 2 football conference games per year, and every piddleshit 1-AA school fan base coming along to chest thump about how we ought to come crawling to beg for their teams to come dominate our conference. Also, the South Alabama guy who apparently spends all his time in a dark room with a list of 1-AAAAA schools and a jar of vaseline, concocting fantasy conferences for the year 2070. EDIT: Because I forgot to mention the FIU fans who try their damnedest to turn anyone else's expression of an opinion into a Widney High reenactment of the Lincoln Douglas debates. Basically, I'm getting old and grumpy, and I hate everyone now.

"Problem" solved. Glad to see you over here. I can't stand the SBC board anymore. Tell Hilltopper2k to stop by sometime, too.

down to earth prediction for this year
TheTastyGreek replied to Green Crazy's topic in Mean Green Basketball
CBL has been hot for Royster since he was still playing in high school. I still remember hearing CBL talk him up during Royster's freshman year SBC tournament game in Mobile. He was way ahead of the curve on Royster. -
down to earth prediction for this year
TheTastyGreek replied to Green Crazy's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I seem to be a pretty big Belt pessimist this year. FAU is deservedly the pre-season favorite, but the loss of Royster is going to radically alter 1/2 of their game. They can't do what they've done in the past without potentially giving up a lot of easy points. They have to completely change their defensive alignment and intensity, and that's not going to be easy considering they (like we recently did) rely on undersized guards. If they can adapt, they'll continue to thrive. If they don't (and I don't think they can), they'll slip a bit (not that an 11 or 12 win conference season makes them a bad team). Nobody better illustrates "more than the sum of the parts" better than Royster and his impact on FAU. His personal stats don't quantify it. There are a lot of bigger star players in this conference, but absolutely no one was more essential to his team's success and how they were able to approach the game defensively than Royster was. FAU isn't going to suck or anything, but I don't think they'll be able to go beyond last year's overall record, and I think they may struggle to match it. That still makes them the best team in the league... But there's a weakness that didn't exist last season. To put it in North Texas terms... The impact of losing Eric Tramiel is a shadow of the impact to FAU from losing Royster. Anyone who thinks our conference struggles last year were primarily due to Tramiel's absence... I think Royster's departure is a much, much bigger deal on the court for FAU. And CBL probably thought he had the biggest Royster man crush in the world... -

Or, is Osborn the next Seneca Wallace?

Nobody is the next anybody until someone can make a half-assed connection to Doug Flutie and Drew Brees being short. I'm sorry, those are the rules. -

That's very specific... Assuming Sabathia goes elsewhere, can you conceive of a more general 3 word mission statement for solving the team's woes? -

CUSAbbs Board Poll On Who Replaces Houston

YES WE CAN! I think four bumps for this is quite enough. Anyone who cares has had AMPLE opportunity to see this and take any action they see fit. Fare thee well, link thread for pointless poll on rival message board. We hardly knew ye. Rest in peace. -

Jesus was a carpenter. After a tough loss, he managed a pretty amazing performance on 3 days rest. Not saying, just saying. -
More disappointing than the Rangers loss? Logging in to GMG, seeing the top thread on the Basketball forum is titled "Breaking News"... !!! Patton? Franklin? Both??!?!? No. An old thread about Pat Summitt. Boo-urns. I changed the title of the thread just to avoid getting disappointed again tomorrow.
