  1. McGhee played 1 year of JUCO at Paris JC, currently in his sophomore year at a different JUCO- Dodge City. He signed an LOI with Eastern Illinois (DEFEND THAT, ROMO FANS!) back during early signing in November. A guy who couldn't last a week at North Texas and bounced around at 2 different JUCOs... I hope for his sake that he can stay eligible at EIU.
  2. Yes. He's been practicing despite being ineligible all year.
  3. There are 80 post minutes available. Tony Mitchell needs to get about 25-30 of them. That leaves 55 minutes, at most, for JJ's Batman utility belt of situationally effective post guys. Kedrick Hogans, Roger Franklin, Jacob Holmen, Niko Stojilkovic, and Alonzo Edwards are going to have to split those minutes based on who is playing hot and matches up well with a given opponent or lineup on the floor. Someone... Usually 2 or 3 someones, are going to get shorted on minutes in any particular game. That's not even considering Forrest Robinson, who we all think is going to be submitted for a medical redshirt (and who, somewhat disturbingly, hasn't even been on the bench for at least 2 of the games in this homestand).
  4. That Party Rock song was pretty good. I like the Kia commercial. Also, you accidentally left Whitesnake's comeback album off your list.
  5. We'll leave early Saturday morning, drive back Wednesday morning. If you come out a few days early to see other folks and stay at our place on Friday night, we'll be able to drive you up with us, no problem. Our rental house will have washer/dryer, so you can still pack light and wash clothes up there.
  6. If you like women's basketball, get an all session ticket book, but NOT FROM THE SUN BELT OFFICE. Half the sessions are women's only. If you'd go to all of them, then the ticket book is a good deal that will save you money. If you only plan on going to men's games, or if you only plan on going to sessions where North Texas plays, or if you only plan on going to see all men's and all NT women's games (and you don't think we'll make the women's finals)... You're probably better off just buying individual session tickets. If you do decide to buy an all session ticket book, don't buy it from the league. For some stupid reason, the pricing on the SBC books is more expensive than if you just bought single session tickets to every game, men's and women's. If you buy from our athletics department, it does three things. One, it saves you some money. Two, it increases documented North Texas sales, which is good for the program and for our confirmed fan support. It sounds nice if we can tell potential CUSA or MWC officials that we sold out our allotment of tournament tickets. Three, it gives you a ticket with a little "North Texas" stamp on it. That guarantees you can sit in the section behind our bench during all games that include our team. That isn't really a big deal... Even when we play a school like Arkansas State or UALR that brings a huge crowd, there are generally enough seats in our section that they don't look for stamps, just North Texas apparel. If you're looking for the most tickets possible at the lowest price available, wait until all the schools list their prices for all session books. Everyone gets to set their own price, and they vary wildly between schools. I think ASU and Middle Tennessee were the most expensive last year. In UNO's last year in the Belt, their program was selling all session books for $50. That's cheaper than 4 sessions of men's tickets, and less than half of what the league office is charging. Denver may offer a good price this year, given their strong performance, distance fans have to travel, and the fact that they won't be back next season. ULM may also end up selling them cheap since their men's teams won't be able to play. As far as staying or going home early... I generally stick around through the end to see all the men's games. Over the past 5 years, we're generally alive through the finals or at worst the semi-finals. Only exception was Mobile, when we got knocked out by WKU early. If you plan on staying through the end, you may want to look at a rental instead of a hotel. We've done both, and unless you want to be able to check out early and save a few nights of room rental... We've MUCH preferred a rental house or condo.
  7. 2 or 3 years ago, we (6 of us, including CarribbeanGreen and Quoner) rented a place that was at the end of bathhouse row. It was a mile to the convention center, less than that to Lucky's. Didn't have to drive anywhere for games or intoxicants if you didn't want to. I'll look up the listing and send it to you. If there are at least 4 of you, it's a good location and probably cheaper than a hotel.
  8. Some other schools set up group rates through alumni groups or booster clubs (I'm thinking specifically of UALR's notorious "Tip-in Club"). I don't know if we have anything like that... We've done a house the past few years, and that's worked out great for us. Comes out to somewhere between $120-140 per person for all four nights, and allows us to stash some food at the house. Also, we've had 5 bathrooms and house accessories like pool, ping-pong, and multiple TVs for video games and sports. I haven't locked in anything for this year... But the tentative plan is to get 2 houses side-by-side. One "wife/girlfriend house" with 3 bedrooms, and another with 5 for anyone else who wants to make the trip and split the cost.
  9. Cookie cake is everyone's favorite.
  10. Agreed. I could see us maybe getting 12 or 13... But a team this young is going to have off nights that can't be overcome. At this point, I'm expecting 10 and realistically hoping for 11.
  11. What I love about Alzee, Roger, and (so far, I think) Trey: They don't try to play outside their abilities. They don't take forced shots, they don't assume they can hit from anywhere with a hand in their face... They play smart, sharp, and within themselves. Not a slap at anyone else on the team... But I can't remember ever being frustrated with anything I've seen them do. It's very, very nice to have 3 guys like that on one team.
  12. We won by 20 last year, home court is usually worth 3.5-4 points in the gambling line... Simple logic dictates that we should be 27-28 point favorites. It's math, people.
  13. No ban forthcoming. Your only real crime was against accuracy, sir. He didn't convert until after leaving LSU. An Abdul-Rauf LSU jersey would be an anachronism, not a throwback. However, the judges WILL accept a "technically, he didn't really 'stand up' for his beliefs" joke. If anyone cares to go there.
  14. Just make sure you don't wear your Chris Jackson throwback LSU jersey to the game tonight.
  15. Not that bored. But I do know (brief aside: I'd love it if there were some way to find a current media guide on the athletics website) that the last generation of recruits gave us something like 3 or 4 of the top 5 all-time team free throw percentages in school history. I credit the increased accuracy to the insidious influence of hip-hop music.
  16. I'm not sure where it's going to end up... But wherever that city was originally apparently wasn't a very good fit. Could be a municipal attitude problem, could just be a victim of civic circumstance. One way or another, the time had come for a change of scenery. I'm sure the city founders had a very valid reason for relocating it, if that's any consolation.
  17. Starts with an "E". Ends with a "ppy", and a festering stink of shame that lingers 40 years later.
  18. Who would you consider the usual suspects in a coaching change? June Jones? Todd Graham? Because looking at Chow's resume... BYU, NC State, USC, Tennessee Titans, UCLA, Utah, and now Hawaii... Graham gets a lot of flak for job hopping, but Chow's resume makes it obvious he can ping-pong as well as any other coach in football. How long until Hawaii ends up with a long and painful rebuilding process? I don't think anyone can claim to be surprised by this if things don't go well.
  19. I'm shocked that the Chow hiring hasn't generated more TV and newspaper publicity. From what I've heard, you can see the fence around Chow's yard from outer space. Seems pretty newsworthy to me.
  20. Asian guy? Unorthodox, aerial assault offensive philosophy? Hawaii? It's so crazy, it just might work.
  21. It can. But it won't. It mustn't. Not transfere ideal, but ultimately essential. No backsliding. Mike Leach- who was a controversial but frequently mentioned fan consideration for head coach at North Texas, wouldn't have wanted it any other way. THE FORUM IS SAVED.
  22. Now the Pit will smell like corn dogs for the rest of the year.
  23. Look at the first 4 letters in your Q-word. They don't exist in our vocabulary. Collateral damage in the war on word crime.
