Dickey just stated that Meager is the starter going into LSU. How long?
-
You are going to have to wait for a definitive answer from Dickey hopefully Monday. I think if you ask the people on this board you will get just as many tell you Meager as you will have tell you it is Phillips.
-
Travis, I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't see Charlie in there Saturday.

Well my post didn't format like I intended it to. If you are interested in what it has to say, I hope you can follow it. JIST: we should play better than in our season opener last year
-
As the new season quickly approaches, I looked back to our last 3 season openers. 2002 v. #9 Texas (27-0 L), 2003 v. #3 OU (37-3 L), and 2004 v #8 Texas (65-0 L). You ask, "Why the hell are you drudging up these deamons?" Well because I like many, are chalking up our season opener as a loss versus #5 LSU, but I believe that if our score resembles the score of our season opener in 2002 or 2003, it is almost a victory for us. I remeber being in Austin with my UT friend in 2002, and them only beating us 27-0, not scoring any points against us in the second half, killed the Texas fans. It ruined their season opener in a way. THAT MADE ME FEEL GOOD EVEN IN DEFEAT! I am sure people kind of felt the same way in Sooner Nation in 2003. Hell, they even let us score. Then I looked back to what went wrong in 2004. Here is what I noticed in the stat book that I feel F-ed us in Austin last year. 2002 2003 2004 Time of Possesion 28:40 to 31:20 28:54 to 31:06 23:47 to 36:13 TOP Diff -2.30 min -2.10 min -12.30 min Rushing yds 38 - 90 yds 35 - 75 yds 20 - 23 yds Are you telling me that with the the back to back rushing champions, that we can't keep the TOP close? TOP is directly related to rushing the ball, that doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out. My point in all of this is, this game doesn't look to be a "flood gates route". Also remeber in 2004, Cobbs is playing with a cast, and only carries the ball 9 times, J-Mo might be red shirted, and only carries the ball 2 times. Remeber to, they are playing with a new QB to. Not talking victory, but I feel we may have something to hang our hat on after it is said and done. GO MEAN GREEN!

This kid from Northwest is the real deal. The QB I coached when he was in middle school. He has some tools. Wouldn't say he is a college QB yet. Will have to prove durability, and prove himself at the varsity level. So far, he has been injured a couple of times, last time being in spring ball. Sound familiar?

Y ou do not have to sweep up the pellets, they will settle.

I am pulling for Meager, but anything but a platoon system. This post is correct, IT NEVER WORKS!

There on TV for Monday Night Football this upcoming week

Kassell enjoys playing 'old school' linebacker

That was great, and he still remembers who got him there... The GREAT STATE OF TEXAS... and the MEAN GREEN! I hope he really kick ass this year. -
I checked the Detroit Lions homepage, and I didn't see that they released a DT, but signed one. This does not look good for Booger's future.

idiot

We're their homecoming opponent? That is usually a game that teams try to roll up for the fans. I hope we lay one on them that send their fans home at halftime!

As you rely on us, we rely on you for Awasom updates. Thanks for the information, I have trying to figure out how he has been doing since camps opened. Keep us posted! Great info.!
-
Also did anyone notice that they gave away Byerly's #5? I thought that odd since they kept Branch's and Nwigwe's numbers while they were on their hiatus. Any comments?
-
I am thinking th e#3 spot will probably go to Kellen Haynes. He got the first look today with the 2nd offense.
-
agreed
-
If he does, that means that Meager got hurt, so lets not think about that. I don't think it will be an alternation thing this year. I think from what I have seen and heard, that if Meager stays healthy he will be the guy. I am not a fan of alternating QB's
-
The fullback was Kerona Henderson, and he was VERY good. I am very excited about him. #99 was not Charlie Brown(#84?), but Robert Harmon I believe. Yes, he did have some very big drops on easy catches. I find it hard to believe you left unimpressed with Meager and Phillips. You are a tough critic
-
The dedcision to throw the ball away while he was in the pocket while standing in the endzone was not a very good decision.

I know I am probably arse whipping people out there with all of this scrimmage talk, but as I think of more things I have to talk about them to someone, and my wife is not that big of a fan, she only likes the games, not necessarily the talk. Another thing that I loved seeing in the scrimmage was two plays that were called that I haven't seen much of the last several years, that I have been dying to see called. The slant, and the screen. Both looked awesome. The slant was run over and over. There was also a little flat pass that was run out of the gun with J-mo on the right, and Patrick on the left. Meager (maybe Phillips) faked the underneath handoff to J-Mo, and hit Cobbs in the left flat. IT LOOKED AWESOME You could just imagine how well little wrinkles like that are going to work against other teams. Especially on third and long plays. LIFE IS GOOD WITH OPTIONS!

We are not the only one rebranding!
BIG DAWG replied to letsgiveacheer's topic in Mean Green Football
Why couldn't we have thought of that? -
Another thing that I didn't mention, and I don't want this statement to weigh too much on anyone because it was JUST A SCRIMMAGE, but I went into this scrimmage more than a little worried about our chances at "the drive for five," but left the scrimmage not that worried anymore. Granted it will be difficult, not a cakewalk by any means, but I definately feel we can do it if we stay healthy and up to our capability. We looked real good out there for a scrimmage. There were several people out there today that agreed with me when I said that we may lack experience at several positions, but the athleticism of this group is far better than we have had in along time. MedPiliot said it best out there today when he said that last year no one could catch J-Mo, but now we have some people who can get close. Also, J-Mo and Cobbs look to have legs the size of a man's 34 waist! And to answer your questions about J-Mo putting on some weight, NO HE HAS NOT LOST A STEP! Someone at the scrimmage asked that questions right before he broke one for about 30. He also on one play carried 3 tacklers on his back!
-
Cobbs and Thomas both had a couple of long runs. Forgot to throw that in there, just thought you guys would probably expect that anyway, right!
-
I went to see two things...J-Mo & Cobbs on the same field, and the QB's. Meager looked great! He is the real deal if he can stay healthy. He doesn't have the arm of Phillips to go down the field, but he has great zip on all the other throws, and is extremely accurate. Phillips looked good as well. If Meager does miss an extended period of time for any reason somewhere during the season, Phillips is capable of manning the ship. If Meager stays healthy, I don't see Phillips beating out Meager for the starting job. I don't think there is any competition for the #1 QB spot, it is Meager's to lose. That being said, the only way for him to lose it would be too many injuries keeping him out of the line-up/practice. J-mo & Cobbs on the same field was great to see, but niether played a ton of reps, as expected. PLayers that were injured that I wanted to see in action: Monroe, Chapman, Higgs Players that I wanted to see, but couldn't find: Washington Was surprised by: Nwigwe's brother at LBer. This kid is awesome! He is fast, fast, fast, and can lay the wood. Fights off blocks well and gets to the ball carrier. Will probably RS Charlie Brown looked very good out there. Big, and caught the ball well. Should RS WR's dropped several passes early, came on late though
