And that is kind of my point...you really never know with recruiting. I was just wondering what people's views were, if 20/25 needed to be solid contributors at some point, or if just a few became very good players for us. I kind of go along with what Emmitt had said, if you get 3-4 really nice players, but the rest contribute you have a pretty solid class when all is said and done. Another key I think though is that on Senior Day you have 15-20 players walk out there during half time, not 8-10

No one will argue with any of us that on paper this class looks exceptional, but what in 4-5 years down the road will deem this class a success? I mean we have signed 3* players before that for some reason or another never contributed for us. We have had some quit the team before seeing the field, OL Trent Stanley, and a LBer that we signed who I cannot remember his name. Not bashing any of those guys, but I am using them to make my point. If you go back to prior recruiting classes for the bigger schools, you can see 4*-5* players that you have never heard of, never panned out. I guess my question is what percentage of your class should be solid contributors in order to say the class was exceptional. What percentage of players who don't contribute significantly to call it a "bust" class? Is your class solid if you have 3/25 that turn out to be real studs, but the rest are just marginal contributors? Maybe a topic for conversation, maybe one that gets no attention. I was just thinking about it, and thought I would throw it out there.

Breaking News Horton Commits To U N T !
BIG DAWG replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
This guy is actually listed as being faster than Rodge...not saying that Rodge is the fastest man to walk the earth, but all would agree he has some wheels -

6'-4" 260lbs and runs a freakin 4.65 40 What a compliment to Gilmore...that is saying Gilmore makes his grades...unlike last year. You talk about making the secondary better...get two DE's that can rush the passer...instant upgrade without even having a new DB step on the field -

He is listed on our Rivals committment list now -
I believe that all these players have always had SMU listed...I do not think that any of them have added SMU after the Jones signing. Mark my words, we will lose some of them to SMU
-
7 Players that are current commits to NT have SMU listed on their list...how many will we lose?

Arlington-Martin 6'-1" 205lbs 2*

Just returning the favor. Then you make the same argument I made in my original post.

Well since you do not know much about football, let me explain. Defensive Coordinators still are required to coach a position.
-
Does this throw a wrench into the whole DeLoach coming back to NT? DeLoach is a secondary guy...not to say he couldn't coach LBers, but it doesn't seem as perfect a fit as it once did. Still holding out hope. Remember, someone posted not to long ago with what was deemed "very good information" that the Co-DC from Texas was coming over. He did coach LBers. That guy, whoever it was may still be right on this one.

Am I The Only One Thats Seen This So Far?

Could this be...a blessing from God??? Please HELP NT, and get us a real DC!!! PLEASE bring DeLoach back to us!!! -
They can give whatever timeline they want...that one aint happening!

I am 99% sure that you cannot take a medical redshirt for an injury you had in high school. If this was allowed, this could really be taken advantage of. No way that is allowed.

Smu Insiders Think It's June Jones
BIG DAWG replied to ParksAndRecRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Whoever they hire is going to make recruiting a whole lot tougher for us in the immediate future, because I really don't think they are going o bring in a spare. If whoever the new coach doesn't win in a couple of years time, it won't matter. -
18 Verbals Including The 3 Juco Spring Transfers !
BIG DAWG replied to Dodge2007's topic in Mean Green Football
who is the third spring transfer??? I only see two, Adams and Hill -
Remeber the days when everyone on this board would be jumping out to get this guy..."the guy is transferring we HAVE to get this guy" Now we a VERY set at the QB position, and not one peep about him coming to NT. Life is good!

Great thread... Overall Grade - B: You couldn't have expected a whole lot if you removed the green glasses. Most prognosticators only had us winning a handful of games. Improvement is needed Offense - B+: Agree Defense - F: How could anyone not agree Special Teams - D: Agree. I was surprised that this unit was not talked about more during the season. Special Teams was "bad-decent" at best this season Coaching and Attitude - B+: I would argue that Dodge won't get all the credit he deserves for what he did on offense until we can see what the offense is capable of when he gets all his guys in there. He made run first guys into aerial guys. Dodge has also brought a stir to NT among the fans that I have not seen since 2002. Something wrong on defense though, and that has to be tied to coaching on that side of the ball Recruiting - A: Last year's class was done without time, and this years class is shaping up to be the best I have seen at NT. Every school loses some recruiting battles, but we are still bringing in talent that hasn't been seen in NT recruiting classes in a long time, if ever. Intangibles - A+: We went 2-10, getting roughed up severely in a couple of those games, and Dodge is going to bring in NT's highest rated class in history possibly. We went 2-10 and high calibur athletes are wanting to jump on the wagon. This show is going somewhere. Then if Dodge is right, and the defensive problems weren't scheme, but talent problems in the secondary, and he rights the defensive ship, he will get even more credit for his coaching abillities.

That is one hell of a rock though

I am a NT fan first, my blood runs green, BUT I was raised a Michigan since birth. My year has been horrible.
-
Everyone should try this thing...I made a SUPER NT team, and I just beat the 2007 NT team...84-10 QB - Hall (2004) RB - J-Mo (2004) WR - Quinn, Fitz, Jackson TE - Blount DEF - 2002 How great a team this would have been I cannot beat Natl' Champs Texas, but I can beat the USC team from that year.
-
Don't forget about Draylon Ross moving over to DT
-
What if... The main problems with the 2007 defense could be attributed to the secondary? That would be interesting because as we all have been able to see, most of the recruits we have nailed down on that side of the ball have been in the secondary. What if these recruits that Dodge is bringing to town fix the secondary, and hence fix the defense? Good things would be in our future. Think about it...we really only had one real starting corner, Bush. The other corner was a whole host of players. Weathers, although a good player for NT, was never much of an enforcer back there. Agbottah, who had his moments, may not be the guy we need back there. With the host of DB's we are bringing in, you have to think we are going to get better back there. You take the Navy game for instance...many times thplayer responsible for the pictch man, who was never there it seemed, is often times a safety or a corner. Maybe it wasn't all bad schemes, but an inadequate secondary??? Maybe??? We get a defensive end, I think contrary to what many believe, we are fine at DT, we will be more athletic at LB'er even without the seniors we lost, and then you revamp the secondary, we might just have a defense that can keep up with our offense. It doesn't have to be spectacular, just servicable, and once in a while have a good game here and there. Any thoughts???
