Phil Steele's Updated Conference Projections

6-6 and us being competitive will make me extremely happy! -
I am not posting this to debate whether or not people should sit our stand in the stands, but I am writing this to tell everyone what I was told by one of the event staff. Me and my group of about 6 were told by a member of the event staff, "You guys need to sit down during the game unless NT scores a touchdown or makes a big play." It isn't like we stand the entire game or anything...we were standing up after the first 3 and out, as we were about to run our first offense play. I asked him if we he was serious, and he said that we were allowed to stand and cheer if there was a touchdown, but any other time during the game they would prefer we stay seated. Like I said, I don't expect everyone to stand the entire game, but I also see it as your individual choice...if I want to stand I think I should be able to. We stood anyway, just found the comment amusing

Any of you guys see Riley in a situation where he had to throw a wet ball during his HS days???

I will be on the cement at noon!!!

I would have to disagree slightly with the lack of pressure argument. Did we get a lot of sacks??? No, but we did get in the backfield quite a bit, altering many pass plays by making the QB run around, causing several passes to be inaccurate. Pressure doesn't have to be a ton of sacks...I do think the sacks will come, and in the end we need to have a lot more than 12 sacks as seaosn's end, but against Ball St., there was pressure on the QB

Simply insane to think what the D-line was in 2008, and what it will be in 2010...WOW!!!

D- Lo Back At It & Brigham Has A New Home

They have a point though...he really hasn't done a whole lot consistently over his career at NT. He has definitely shown glimpses, and I am one of his biggest supporters due simply to his potential, BUT you know what they say about potential. Gilmore has shown some glimpses, but he has not lived up to his potential to this point. I think that was their point. People like to annoit him as one of our best players on the D-line, but if you took a look at his career stats on paper, and put Joe Smith on the top of that sheet you see a role player, not a stud. I hope he dominates this season, and proves to be an all-time great, but he isn't there yet...I think that is what they have been trying to get across. -
Ohio got gashed against the run last night...I predict you will see our offense do much of what you saw against Ball St., run, run, run the ball. Riley will control the short to mid-range passing game, the defense's pressure will equal some sacks, Hill gets another pick... NT - 34 Ohio - 20

My biggest fear going into Ball St. was getting blown out... My biggest fear going into the home opener is the team having a hangover from winnning @ Ball St. and having a let down How I love college football

N T Daily Article On The Ball State Game

I am with Nwigwe on this one! -
1) It was nice to see, that may be an understatement, the d-line be able to control the line and let the LB'ers make plays 2) Riley is as advertised...he made some mistakes, but this was his first D1 game and he was awesome...passing and running 3) Defense...WOW...I will not ever again doubt Mile Nelson and his player personel decisions...the defense was AWESOME tonight...granted not the defense that won us a bowl game, but WOW...much better than we have seen the last two years...another understatement This team looks totally different...TOTALLY! I am so excited to see what this team can do this year. A couple of questions... 1) When was the last time we were able to be cheering after halftime? 2) When was the last time we came close to dominating on field...Ball St. did not do a whole lot to us 3) When was the last time we went 2-0 to start the season? I am still holding strong to my 6-6 0r 7-5 prediction, but good things are definitely happening...enjoyed talking to Emmitt and Medpilot at the Pourhouse and Riprocks...love talking NT football in person with NT enthusiasts! Haven't talked to either one of you in a long time Great things are happening with this program. Quote of the night...and it is a paraphrase..."If our defense plays like this all season long...tell me we can't win 7."

Ball State Game Notes And Unt Two-deep Posted

Weber and DeSoto will see PLENTY of time, you can count on that. Don't be surpried if we see three waves of D-linemen running in and out of the game throughout. Life is GOOD!!! -
Yes, but not full of freshmen...and not young enough to use it as an excuse

I am not concerned in the least about the smallish DE's or Gilmore's move. With the DL this year, who is starting at DE isn't going to matter because we are going to rotate players, big, small, and every combination at DE. We will have rush ends, and run-suffing ends playing at all different times of the game. As far as the Gilmore move...for these coaches, this is their life, their financial stability...they are going to make decisions that they believe wil ensure they continue to get paid. Now I know there have been decisions made in recent years that have had us scratching our heads, but those decisions haven't come from Gary DeLoach and Mike Nelson, two people that have been doing this for a long time, and have MANY skins on the wall, unlike thier predecessor. I guess my point is trust in the folks that do this for a living...even though many of you have been doing from an arm chair for many more years. (for those of you who have been pulling up posts of mine from several years back recently, YES, I have been guilty of this a time or two in the past...I am turning over a new leaf)
-
This makes me very happy...if we do turn it around this year, we will be good for several years to come it looks like
-
Understand this...Gilmore will not see time at DE this season unless there are several injuries. I also expect a big season from him at DT.
-
Reading the practice blog from today, seems like Atkinson was also a bad ass today...him and Jackson together could be one hell of a tandem
-
WOW!!! This guy makes a decision to follow some family lines in the army, and this is what people have to say. Nice...
-
How many times can you remember JQ making catches like that on under thrown balls??? Seems like that is almost his signature catch!
-
yup...

This is definitely a good read... Capper Blog Entry

That is a legitimate concern...everything is looking great right now, but you never know. I am definitely leaning towards the side of a big turnaround though. I just hope that people aren't hoping for 10 wins or something with all the good things that are going on...6 wins would be a phenominal season...4-5 with the rest being competitive would be great!!!
