Attention Green Gang: '09 Home Attendance Avg Was
BIG DAWG replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I really think his "apathy" statement is in regards to next season...this is in response to everyone saying that they aren't going to come out and support this team next year. Especially all the hot heads on this board saying that they aren't renewing their season tickets. I don't think this has much to do with the people that turned out for '09...but those that say they won't for '10 -
Riley should be back by Spring Ball...practice and scrimmages are no contact for QBs anyway
-
This statement is 100% true, and should not make me laugh, but that statement brought a good chuckle from me... ... ... ... ...

There isn't a meeting set because he isn't going to be fired. All the Dodge haters out there are stuck with him for another year! I am to the point where I really don't care one way or another...I just want to win some games...I just find some people on this board freakin' hillarious...I am talking about those who have all the answers...they really make me laugh!!!

What Kind Of Turnaround Will A New Coach Bring?
BIG DAWG replied to UNT Mean Green's topic in Mean Green Football
BUT...if we have the talent here, like many think we do...and they just aren't being coached well enough, like many think they aren't...maybe we are in for a big turnaround next season with a new coach. I have no clue what to do...I just want to start winning games. My gut says to stay with Dodge one more year...if we fire him, I could understand that rationale too. Who knows...GO MEAN GREEN!!! -
What the hell??? Care to elaborate?

I understand the whole "neighbor's dog" analogy, and you are entitled to your opinion...whatever. I just thought I would share my info...if it is wrong it is wrong...if it is right it is right...it is what it is.

In Fairness To Dodge About The Redshirt ...
BIG DAWG replied to rcade's topic in Mean Green Football
How much would he have played ever? This guy was not brought in here to see significant playing time under the regime. With that being said, under a different regime, who knows. I am SICK of the "spite" talk. This is a guy who was never intended to the "savior" or even brought in to the "the guy" Is he a bad player? Absolutely not what I am saying, but some guys are brought in to fill a role, and he was brought in to provide depth the QB position, thereby not really hurting his career any by burning his redshirt. Would I have loved to see him sit on the sidelines those last few minutes, you are damn right! Am I heartbroken and disgruntled that his redshirt is burned? Not really. -
From what I hear there isn't much of a choice
-
It will be mandatory for any of Dodge's hires...and something that I am pretty sure RV will make sure of for the rest of his career as an AD anywhere he is at!
-
The way I am hearing it from someone who has never failed me before in getting me solid info, Dodge is going to be brought back...the last of the high school guys are gone (George and Ford), and they (RV and the powers that be) are leaning towards having the new OC take play calling duties away from Dodge so he can focus on his head coaching responsibilities during the game. I personally think, not that my opinion weighs any more or less than anyone elses, that this is the right move to keep him for one more year...BUT THE BEST MOVE OF ALL THIS if it does indeed transpire like this, would be calling in a play caller to allow Dodge to focus on coaching the game. I have never been a fan of a head coach calling plays...too much to do for one guy! Sorry for those of you that this will piss off, but I will see you one way or another (fired or retained) next season! GO MEAN GREEN WITH OR WITHOUT TODD DODGE...I will be there regardless!!!
-
Did he get fired, or did he step down on his own? If he steped down, what were his reasons?
-
No...no we can't
-
This couldn't be more true...one way or another, a decision needs to be made public ASAP fro recruiting purposes alone! I can guarantee that a decision has been made by RV one way or another...the quicker it is made know to everyone else the better for the program

Kragthorpe was making 1.5 million a year at Louisville...NT isn't going to pony up that kind of money I am afraid We are going to take another crap shoot gamble on an assistant from a MID-MAJOR program. We cannot even bring in an assistant from one of the major conferences. If we could have, we would have brought in Tyrone Nix when we hired Dodge. That is why I argue for keeping Dodge for one more year. I just don't see us being able financially to bring in someone that is a proven commodity. Dodge has got some players sitting this year that will impact this team. Can he win games with them??? I don't know, but I also don't know if we can bring in someone that we are sure is better.

The Riprock victory trip has been a long standing tradition for my group that we have not been able to partake in much lately, but I am hoping to be able to participate in this tradition again Saturday!!!

Even though WKU is not a good team, winning that game, after being behind, and the fact that our defense did rise up a little in the second half could actually pick this team up off the mat. This NT team, regardless of what others say, COULD have 3 additional wins...where we would be sitting at 5-3 right now. The way we lost those 3 gut wrenchers can definitely take its toll on a team...to the point where I am sure at times, even though they have never quit, I am sure they keep asking themselves, "when are we going to catch a break?"...doing what they needed to do on Saturday, and getting something positive in the end, a win, could really right the ship in what becomes a very winable 4-game stretch I know we all want and expect 12-0 and National Championships, (a little humor there...except for some...), but this team really is close...I don't care what some of you say. This team just put up 68 points! I know...I know...that was a horrible WKU team, but that is exactly what good offenses do to bad teams. The defense, if you believe in DeLoach, which I do...will right the ship. We are playing without a few players that are going to be contributors next year...Anyiam, Hilbert Jackson, DT White, Webber...ect. Then you throw in Prior and Phillips who are developing before our eyes, and this defense will right the ship. Everyone...and I mean everyone...was going to be happy with anywhere from 3-5 wins this year, as long as we were competitive, and we have been. Take out Troy, Bama, and even MTSU if you want, even though I thought we made that game competitive after a horrible 2nd qtr. I think the gut wrenching losses have just hurt pretty bad...excruciating even, BUT I believe this ship is going in the right direction, and we are on the way back, maybe not just fast enough for some. That's my 2 cents...take it or leave it

This is what we will see more of from Riley as he gets more experience at this level...even with WKU being bad, those are awesome numbers regardless of the defense he is playing against.
-
...and my point is if the TEAM makes a couple plays here and there, and we are now 3-3, or 4-2, this conversation is not even on the table...even if Riley's stats and injuries played out exactly as they are now. I just think Riley is taking more heat than he is due...the TEAM has needed to make more plays...and just a handful of them at that

Say Tune leads this team to victory Saturday...is there really a debate over who starts next week if Riley is healthy??? I mean seriously, Tune is a decent player, but everyone should be able to see that Riley is the better QB right??? Tune has a better deep ball (at this point in Riley's career), but Dodge still brings more to the table. I know this would be a HUGE win, but even though, people can't really be considering benching a healthy Riley Dodge??? That is what I get reading several posts. People are really trying to compare a RS freshman who will make rookie mistakes, but can make explosive plays, and a RS junior who is a game manager...both have thrown pick 6's that have cost us games. Does taking away reps from the RS freshman and giving them to the RS junior help your program? Riley is a RS FRESHMAN...his next game will be his 6th start! This defense is not good enough to carry a game manager. Give me the RS freshman who needs to develop a deep ball over a game manager, who is a statue, that has an average deep ball. I say average, because it isn't like he has shown it consistently...he has shown he can stare down a reciever. This isn't Meager v. Phillips...they were even in experience, age, exposure to the program. For you guys calling for the Lake Dallas product...are you serious??? This topic has been the most frustrating other than the gut wrenching losses. The debate over which QB to play has been simply crazy to me. The only strength to anyones argument is Riley's deficiency in the deep ball category, but I have no doubt that will come as he gets stronger...more than likely next year. Fragile??? Maybe, but the only injury he has suffered that you can contribute to his lack in size is the shoulder. Can we really contribute the ankle to his size? I think we chalk that up more to him being a running QB. I have heard the non-throwing shoulder injury is what is making his deep ball look less than stellar due to the fact it hampers his follow through...granted he will never be guy with the cannon deep ball, but will definitely be able to develop enough of a deep ball to get the job done. I know we are all frustrated, but the team is a lot better, competitive, and can still get the 4-5 wins most said they would be happy with. BUT with the start we had and the closeness of our games, people got inflated expectations, including myself. Lets not get down on players that are brand new to this game...we are returning almost every starter...we are young, but not 3 years down the road young, BUT next year young...good things are happening, and they are going to be happening with Riley, and he is going to be one hell of a QB when his career is said and done, and I think most of you know this through all your frustrations with the gut wrenching close losses
