That is a good stat to use. It makes since to look at the team this way: Record against D1 Record against Conference Record against Winning Record/Bowl Teams. Points Scored/Allowed is a bad standard, how many points you can more on a team doesn't really tell you anyting or are you one of the Boise State fans that think the Bronco's should be ranked number one?
-
Why not post the stat that really matters, UNT's win record against the Belt?
-
Its not an imaginary fund. Any member of the Mean Green Club can call for the creation of a new fund. Also you can designate what a donation to the school can be used for. Anybody ambitious enough can set these funds up. Like I said, but your money where your mouth is.
-
So that's it. 3 people are willing to but their money where their mouth is when it comes to getting a new coach.
-
I think I've figured out a compromise for all the people out there that say DD needs to go and they don't want to support the program while DD & company are at the helm. We could have the Mean Green Club or Atheletic Department create a new coach fund, a fund for where people can make donations that will go towards the signing bonus of the new coach.

So we can't call out the players because their going to be future alumi? And we can rail against the coaches because they have no tie to the university? That's just brillant. Look Dickey's biggest problem is he can't retain assistant coaches and the ones hes does retain we all seem to hate. But DD does some things right, he realistically knows what type of talent this school can draw. Jump up and down and scream at your monitor all you want, but its true. These are the types of recruits our school is able to draw, not just the type DD can draw. But some how my recongition of this fact makes me an appologist. I'm just asking people on this board to be honest. There's no difference between saying Dickey can't recruit and these kids just can't play at D1 level. Sure its politer and easier to call out the coach, but that's about it. But if you think this school and these players deserve to be in D1 then shouldn't you support them through the whole season? If these seniors deserve to finish out the season, then why cut their legs out from under them by wanting the coaches to be fired mid-season? Boycotts are necessary when you need to bring attention to a cause. But's what's to bring there to bring attention to? We've hit the skids? Dickey sucks? RV knows all this. And we all know RV will can DD at the end of the season if things don't improve. But what do I know, I'm just a troll with no connection to this university.

Yawn. The Tulsa/UNT comparision is illrelvent to this discussion. Tulsa is a different media market than Denton and why does that impact the fact that fans are this board are scared to realistically look at the entire program. So far all I've heard is its easy to blame the coaches & it not very nice to talk about the players. I really don't get the difference between saying Dickey can't recruit and saying these kids can't play. I also like how the "fans" on this board have dodged the question about if this season is over then why support the team at all.
-
I don't buy that the coaches are responsible for everything. And if the players really have given up on the coaches, the way some folks on the board have then don't go to the games, and sit all the seniors. If this season is really so over, then all we can do is plan for the future, giving anytime to the seniors does nothing to get us ready for the future. And if the season is really over then don't go to the games. Don't post on the board. Don't wear the merchandise. We're done. We suck. But if we're getting ready for the future, shouldn't we continue to support the team? Keep attendence up? Show some pride? The coaching staff's fate resides in the product they roll out the next few weeks. Supporting the team now is not an endorsement of the current football product.
-
A loss to FIU or another performance like last weekend and the coaching staff seals its fate. But why aren't we talking about the entire product NT is putting out?
-
At a certain point the discussion has to turn to the peformance of the players themselves. Its easy to trash the coaching staff, their the ones getting paid, but when are people on this board going to man up and talk about the players. If this season is over, then why not bench all the seniors?
-
Shut up with the replace the coaching staff mid-season talk! If the team looses to FIU or has another performance like this last weekend's then the coaching staff as sealed its own fate. However, THE SEASON ISN'T OVER! WE CAN STILL WIN THE CONFERENCE. If your ready to call it a year, then have the balls to say we should bench every senior. If this coaching staff is so bad that they shouldn't have another game, then why should we apply the same logic to the players. Shut up. And watch the games.

It the most important game of the year.

Coach Fran is on the outs with A&M.

I wouldn't read too much into any list that has New Mexico State as the number 2 offense in the nation, they haven't beat D1 team since 2004.

This just goes to show how the program has improved letting us move away from 2-3 body bag games per season to 1 money game & a bunch of regional rivals. Obviously the next step is to become competitive in those OOC games.
-
I guess that somes it up, "we" don't know what success looks like. That explains why people on this board can't see the progress. Better facilities, attendence, & donations. An now an OOC win over a school we've been wanted to play for decades. The SMU win is a big deal. The fact that we were even playing SMU is a big deal. Winning 4 conference titles is a big deal.
-
I'm sure it had nothing to due with Defenses we faced. Looking at the numbers means taking a few other stats into account; like the other teams points allowed column.
-
Thought I'd bring this thread back to give the doom&gloomers one more shot at it. This program is moving in the right direction.
-
Becuase Akron is good. MAC champs, beat NC State, hot passing game. I guess I should add "we" are awful fans because we don't know anything about other programs.
-
The direction we're headed is awesome. Better facilities, increased attendence, increased donations. Our SBC success has let us transition our schedule from body bag games to regional rivalaries. Don't get be wrong, last year completely sucked when the wheels feel off. But were back and better in a much improved conference.
-
What an awful bunch of fans. We bitch and moan about everything. We over react and throw tantrums daily. We ignore the reality of where our program is and what it takes to move foward. Why is everyone so stunned we lost to a team that was favored by 20 points?
-
Why isn't incremental progress acceptable? We had no progress in our pre-SBC years. We win conference games build a bit of a following, increase donations and incrementally start to improve our facilities. We win conference games, get more cash and change our schedule from facing OU, Alabama, and Arkansas to playing regional rivals like Baylor, SMU, LA Tech & Tulsa. Next thing you know we start to win some of those games. Looks like progress to me. Sure it would be sweet to be in CUSA, but they didn't take us. In part because of our facilities, in part because we don't bring much in the way of a other sports, and because we don't deliver a market. And while you can bitch and moan about how the University should just roll over a build a new stadium, that's not going to happen. So why not accept the fact that we are incrementally making progress.

There seems to be alot more negativity on the board at this point in the season than years past, and I can't really figure out why. Sure I have my theories about grown men disenchanted with their lives projecting their fantasy on college football, with a touch of homo-erocticism. But what I really want to know is where do people think this program is heading? I see a team that doesn't fit in any conference but the SBC. I see a team that struggles, like every mid-major to stay competitive in a improving conference. I see a team that is slowly building on conference wins to get OOC wins against regional rivals. I see a program that is growing its fan base a little each season as it slowly moves towards it goal of better facilities.

So what, we need to hire Zig Ziggler to pump up the team?
