Didn't daddy also sell some pro-weed? A high school coach is bad move. Its real easy to coach in a single school district (South Lake, Duncanville, Judson, Highland Park etc) with a big budget (top 10 richest school district win a majority of the UIL awards).
-
Because it's a bad year for college football. Lots of teams have no wins against D1 teams.

"Go to the WAC will get us into a better conference latter" is a bad argument. CUSA didn't care about what conference its new members were comming from it cared about what those programs brought to the table. Simply being in a "bigger/better" conference doesn't increase the value of that program. You have to weigh things like increased payouts vs. increased travel expenses. The WAC was a bad deal for us that's why we turned it down.

Because being in the WAC did wonders for SMU.

Few more thoughts. If your comparing UNT vs anyone else you don't have to worry about the media numbers being skewed. The marketshift in media coverage from print to digital should be simular across the board. Meangreen.com hits is a bad indicator. You'd be measuring this site's popularity, not the Teams. Plus I think you be hard pressed to prove a corraltion between web hits and efficency. I'd also be careful about doing an economic impact analysis. One, its a bigger undertaking that what your Methods paper ask for. Two, it is easy to skew an economic impact analysis. Studies on the Cowboys move to Arlington showed everything from $300 million profit to a $20 million dollar loss. If you were to do a quick an dirty economic analysis look at -game day parking -vendor/concession profits -merchandise profit/loss (which is going to be skewed because of the new logo) -business occupancy & population within .5, 1, and 3 miles of Fouts -Hotel Occupancy Tax collections -Citations Issued But I still advise against it. I think its too hard to discern the direct economic impacts of Game Day versus the presence of the new medical center, the city's population shift, and new consturction on campus.

Yawn. Look, the old guy's rant has nothing to do with the actual issue at hand. Second, (and I dare anyone on this board to prove other wise) the point he is trying to make is ill-relevant. THE ANCIENT PAST HAS NO BARING ON OUR CURRENT SITUATION. Why does anything that happen before the modern age of college football matter? I’m also calling B.S. on this glory days argument. THERE WERE NO GLORY DAYS! No bowl game. No capitalizing on the winning momentum. Keep pretending that no one is fit to carry Hayden Fry’s jock, but the fact is that has nothing to do with our program and the issues it is facing today.

If we win out... This season would be a success; winning record & 2 OOC wins. If we go 6-6... This season is success after rebuilding from last year's collapse/ If we beat LA Tech... This season is step in the right direction, 2 OOC wins. Even if we do any of these things we won't go bowling. So is the price of life in the SBC. If we don't do any of these things we will have a new coaching staff.

This really begs the question is college football more than just an entertainment product?

Will DD get fired at the end of the season
shaft replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
For Dickey to stay the team needs to win out. That would give the team a winning record and 2 OOC wins. But that's probably not going to happen so we will get a new coaching staff. -
Dodge isn't even on the top 5 highest paid HS coaches in the State. Dodge didn't almost get a job with the Cowboys, a certain ex-UNT, DD assistant did.

A truely under rated post.

What's the difference between announcing a coaching change and making one on the spot? Likewise if things are so urgent that changes have to take place right now why let any senior play? If its about the future then throw'em all out. Or should we be remotely human and let the guy in the hospital bed playout the season with the kids he recruited.
-
My expectations for this season were a must win agaisnt SMU, and a winning record. I find it strange that anyone who knows anything about our program would have different expectations.
-
I'm not asking what needs to be done to give the coaching staff/team a pass on this season, but instead is there anything that the team can do for you to view the season as a positive.

Did anyone else catch the indian in the tee-pee drinking before the second half.

Just to split hairs, College Football News puts out an annual ranking where it looks at D1 wins, Conference wins, Good wins (winning record/bowl teams), Elite wins (ranked teams), bad losses (d1aa/3 win or less teams), attendence, number of draft picks. Those are some pretty objective indicators. The anti-Dickey crowd continue to pick'n choose which stats they want to use to make their argument (offense). I also think the anti-DD offense is mute discussion. One, if the season goes in the tank there are going to be personel changes. Two, DD health may force the issue. So why don't you sit back, shut up and enjoy the game. If you really hate the coach so much then put your money where your mouth is an give to the new coach fund. But don't try to stack the stats in your favor, because the numbers clearly tell a different story.

Sorry, I only went to a crappy State School for both my degrees.

There's no support for a law school in Denton. Linking the project to South Dallas was key in building support for the project. Political support matters because we ain't got the cash to buy Texas Wesylan. And its not a forced choice of Law School or Stadium. The university can't issue bonds to build a stadium the same way it can for the Law School.
-
In response I just like to say... Yawn. Why can't any of you freaks look at the program objectively? D1 wins, Conference wins, elite wins. You want to factor in bad losses, and attendence go head. Add in draft picks and you the exact way College Football News does their 3 year rankings they publish every spring. Why is it so hard for some of you to accept the fact that RV and DD have been good for the program. As Dickey's "buick" style offense outlived its usefulness? Maybe. The truth is Dickey and his offense work (for the most part) and its works for the type of program we have. [This is where someone mindlessly chimes in about having a positive attitude will change what conference we play.] D1 football is hard, and everyone on this board takes that for granite. This isn't a play station game, teams have to rebuild and fight to get a head. But hey what do I know, I just a troll.

Dear UNT Fanbase, IT'S TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE. We have too many blowhards on this board who think they know something about college football, grown men with a sick, sick infatuation with young college atheletes, and people with very more judgement. We need a new fan base. One that understand stats, and how stadium financing works. Fans that don't throw up strawman arguments like attendence in thread about win-loss records. Fans that don't rant and rave about pre-historic coaches from the 70's. Fans that understand being in the top 25 takes more than just wishing. Fans that understand the change this program has gone through and the growth process that is necessary to get us to our goal. And fans that accept the University determines the goal. John Shaft "One Bad Mother" Class of his own.

Um... are you so biased you can't acknowledge the facts right in front of you. The bowl win over Cincy was a quality win. The win over SMU is going be a quality win. And you don't just dimiss the conference record. Conference games matter. The majority of the season is played against conference teams. Like I said, total wins, conference wins, and quality wins tell the story of a program (especially when you look at those stats in relationship to other programs.)
