The problem with CFN bowl theory is that the New Orleans Bowl get the first pick from the SBC. The N.O. Bowl will only pass on the SBC champ if, 1. that team is gauteed another bowl (the SBC would insist on their champ being in a bowl.) 2. the team they select in place of the champ will be a bigger draw (the bowl isn't going to give attendence away.)

I think its pointless to debate the qualities of the future coach since the discussion will have no effect on the actual decission. But I do think its interesting to see what other jobs are open aswell. Yes, your the only one. The SBC has clearly improved, more teams with .500 or better records.

DD didn't get snatched up by another school because... 1. Not enough OOC wins. 2. DD like being at UNT and absent the K-State job wasn't looking to leave. The fact that guy didn't leave the program earlier doesn't make him a bad coach. Is RV a bad A.D. because he hasn't jumped ship? Are you a bad employee because you stayed at your job? DD did a lot for this program. He wasn't the guy to take this program to the next level, but he was the guy who took it to this level (4 consecutive bowl games.) He's also the guy who could right the ship after last year's implosion. DD is not the end all be all of UNT coaching, but he was really good for this program. Now its time to go a different direction. Why is it so hard for people on this board to recognize this?

No one has mandatory summer workouts, the NCAA prohibits them. The NCAA goes has far a too prohibit coaches from keeping attendence logs for summer workouts. UNT does what every other team does; player lead workout sessions.

I think RV summed it up; DD accomplishments should be dismissed inspite of the recent slump. Why doesn't anyone here have faith in RV? The team goes down hill, DD gets put on notice. DD doesn't produce the following season and he's let go.

Not exactly most coaching contracts provide a different payout when the coach takes a new job. UL-M's coach was getting his gaurtee from Army less his UL-M contract.

A players loyality is to their coach, a fan's loyality is to the school. Players look up to thier coaches. The coaches are the guys that wanted them to play here. The coaches are the guys that teach them to play better. The coaches are the guys to give them the attention they are looking. With that being said, it was a juvinile move on the part of the coaching staff to agree to the players idea for a tribute. There is nothing wrong with the players rallying around their coach and paying their respect, but the coaches should have taken the high road and directed the students towards a different tribute.

Um... It's been like 2 hours. No chance for players and assistants to respond. Dollar to a donut their going to say things like their "totally shocked." List of accomplishments? ESPN runs them everytime they show the clip. Give the national and Miami press an hour or two and they'll start running stories on Cokers accomplishments. No black uniforms. Let's see what the players do to show their respect at the bowl game. A player's loyality is to their coach, a fan's loyality is to the school.

I really don't get all the hostility. DD did alot for the program, what's the harm in recognizing that. Ultimately all our loyalities reside with the school and not the person, but the lack of class displayed on this board undermines the University. Everyone recognizes that it's time for a new coach to come in, but there's no reason to disrepect the program by disrepecting the out going coach. Of course there are those who pretend they are the vicitims here. The ones who claim their offended by DD's press conferences or play calling, but we know that's not true. Sure it make for snazy on-line debates, but it simply not true.

1. We're checking the message board in the middle of the day. 2. We're debating if people were suprised enough the coaching decission. 3. We're debating the pros/cons of a hiring process 1 week old. When we all know its a 3 week process.

For little ol' me, aw shucks. I never questioned that RV would let DD go if we had two consecutive losing seasons. The expectation for the year was 6-6 with a must win against SMU.

Why you gotta hate? People on this boar were surprised. People on this board even question the actual announcement on this board by the board administrator. And what's wrong with putting things politely even if it "wasn't a total shock."

Why would you give away naming rights? I'll take the cash over the hero worship. Build him a statue, but try to get a sponsor for that too. Anything less is fiscally irresponsible.

In a 1 bowl conference winning is what matters. Tech has to rely on excitement because they are not going to bring home the championship.

But who are we going to elect Prom Princess? This is a joke. We don't vote in coaches. And this isn't our "only chance." Let the AD do his job. Does anyone on this board really question RV's judgement? Let's take a look at RV shall we. He shows up assess the situation and starts making changes. Boom, tail gating. DD doesn't produce, he puts him on notice. Boom, 4 conference championships. DD slumps in 2005, RV puts him on notice. DD doesn' deliever in 06, boom new coach. So why can't we all sit back and just acknowledge the fact that RV knows what he's doing.

Let the conspiracy theories go. Does DD leaving give the team a rallying point? Yes. Is that the only reason we won yesterday? No.

I've never really understood why people on this board are so bitter. Dickey did a lot for the program; he brought in a back to basics style of play and managment that the team needed. He won four conference championship, broke the nations longest streak of bowl shuts. I agree that he's not the right guy for the future, but I don't understand the tasteless remarks people on this board continue to make even after the guy has been let go.

And Newman Smith was competitive until the district opened Creekview, so shifted where the budget neighborhood went to school. This is mute issue since rumor has it Kevin Federline as already been hired as the replacement coach. I hear that guy can do anything.
