D1/FBS teams should only play other D1 teams. UNT can't lower it's standards to play d1aa/fcs teams when it already plays in one of the weakest D1 conferences. UNT can't afford to give away one of it's few home games to a d1/fcs team. The athletic departments needs the revenue from the buy games, and has worked to hard to get home & home games with regional rivals like SMU, TULSA, and Rice. BCS schools try to justify playing d1aa/fcs teams with the logic that there is no preseason in college football. UNT wouldn't be able to add an d1aa/fcs team in the early part of it's schedule, because that's where we get the big bucks from LSU, Texas, and OU. So why lower our standards to "buy" an d1aa/fcs win, late in the season?

Welcome to D1 football and the nature of "buy" games. -
Breaking News.... UNT is a four year school. Maybe, just maybe the kid plans to actually graduate in four years and move on.
-
They sky is falling! The sky is falling! Every reputable prediction has starting out the year 0-4, the coaches probably knew that.
-
12-0, but we lose in the Rose Bowl.
-
I'm outraged I just got a letter from RV saying I'll have to pay $16,000 for my personal seat license, not even the actual tickets just the right to buy tickets.

Charlie's actual story was funny enough. "I was talking to the guy, and this teenage boy walk up and I got all nervous and left."
-
What kind of freak are you? Do you normally walk up to strangers and just starting talking to them? I imagine your little chat going something like this; Charlie: "you look kind of young, you thinking about coming to UNT." kid: "uh, yeah." Charlie: "do you play football, you look like you play football." kid: "uh, yeah." Charlie: "what school do you go to?" kid: "uh, I'm just trying to watch the game." Charlie: "I looked up the rules about what I can say to you, I've been thinking about this all week." kid: "uh, I think I'm going to leave now."

Why not a conference game?
-
Where are they? Your one man approach seems a little short sided and numberous other posters have pointed out. Why is $3 the magic number? Why an overall atheletic fee increase vs. say a stadium fee.
-
A couple issues you might want to address for fee hike campaign: -Why $3 per hour? How much cash is that going to generate? What do the studnets get for their investment? How do UNT fees match up with other schools? Talking about how cool football is, and how important atheletics are to the school doesn't answer the real question of why this particular fee hike is needed.
-
Maybe it can host other sporting events like soccer, baseball or have a big track that runs around the inside of it.

The Green Hurd says "A University isn't a democracy" Shaft replies: Its not a private enterprise either. No one is saying every fee is voted on, but in our big ol' publicly funded university we like to let the kiddies have a say in a few things. The Green Blinders say "I give more than $300 per year" Shaft blurts: Great. Now start giving an additional $300, just for the stadium. And no your season tickets and new hat doesn't count toward the stadium's $300. Long-term financing can be handle through things like students fees, but the short-term/up front cash has to come from the alumni. The new stadium is going result in higher student fees; I think it would be smart of the University to get an extenstion on the Health Center fee now, to cover the long term debt, knowing their going to have to request an additional fee increase on the students later, once the stadium is actually built.
-
Whatever happened to no taxation without representation? It’s absurd to think the students (who will bare the brunt of the costs) shouldn’t have a say on the fees. You would go nuts if your city council doubled your property taxes and didn’t have to be held accountable. The best way to pay for the new stadium is to have the students vote to continue the fee for the health center to carry to the stadium. This will take care of the long-term dept on the stadium and keep fees the same. If you want a new stadium so bad, then why don’t you start donating $300 year just like the kids at Texas State.
-
Because a new football stadium doesn't do anything for the county. Counties don't get hotel/motel taxes...Cities do. And the City of Denton uses their Hotel Occupancy Taxes to fund things like the Denton Jazz Fest. Sports Facilities are bad economic development projects. They do very little to bring new business, value, and growth to a City. Arlington is bit of a special case, because the City was buying an indentity to support a project the city had been working towards for years. "Fun Central" already had the hotel and entertainment infrastructure to support the new Cowboys Stadium. Arlington also over paid for their stadium; the city is giving away their parking fees to Jones, and only gets a portion of the naming rights. Why should people in Lewisville or Little Elm pay for a stadium in Denton.

Sure DFW is a big media market, but college football gets very little coverage. Do you think the local media will actually expand its coverage if all the local programs are doing well? Or will it be a zero sum trade off for coverage.
-
College football will always take a back seat to pro-football in Dallas, but is DFW a big enough market to support three division one programs? On the field performance is still the biggest indicator of what type of attendance a program will draws, but media coverage helps.

Welcome to generation Y where even 119th place gets a trophy. -
That's a relief, now we don't have to worry about LSU snatching up our coaching staff.

Sweet, that means we got "C" average. And lets be honest at UNT that's good enough. -
Has there ever been another season when 3 Texas coaching positions were available at the same time? SMU, A&M, and Baylor will all be up for grabs next year.
-
ssshhhh. We try not to bring up the frat racism thing around here. After DD had some of these boys frat bounced, they never had very nice things to say about him on this message board. Let's face it, Dodge is probably ready for prime time, but his assistants aren't. They're not getting it done on the feild and they're not getting it done with the players off the feild.
-
Sure can, the players can get got stealing VCRs from hotels like Simon used to let'em do. Or RV could bring in Dog the bounty hunter to conduct an investigation. They sky isn't falling. Its the worst Defense is school history, but the offense has some zip.
-
Right now I'm a greenish sick-to-my-stomach with the coaching staff shade of Mean Green. I'm also a touch of green-with-envy sort of fan, the the way every other team has better defense than us. I get that Dodge gets a pass this season to get it together, but do we have to be worst in the country bad while we're "transitioning."
