The team should take on as many buy/body-bag games as possible to help pay for the new stadium. I like to see the team play OU, UT, LSU every year until the stadium is built.

While the Student Senate as the ability to over ride the popular vote, I don't think they will (or should). If anything the threat/hint of an over ride will only help the opposition.
-
Don't tear down flyers. 1. Its against the rules. 2. The negative campaigning will become the story and distract from the issues related to the stadium. 3. This type of negative campaigning will only ad fuel to the opposition, and help motivative swing voters against the project. For Alumni who feel left out of the student vote. 1. Think about the term "student vote." 2. Write a check to the stadium fund.

More bad arguments. Against: Why should I pay for something I'm not going to use. Your not paying for the stadium, the fee increase goes into effect for future students once the stadium is built. Why should we trust the administration on this, Coach Dodge hasn't made the team any better. 1. Fifteen games is too soon to judge a coach's ability to rebuild. 2. The debate is less about improving the team and more about a replacement for Fouts. All your guaranteed with a new stadium, is a better place to watch football. For: A new stadium means a new conference. There is absolutely no evidence to support this theory. There are no conference openings, nor are there any of the horizon. A new stadium will improve the team. Again there is no evidence to support this. A new stadium doesn't not automatically improve the on the field product. All one has to do is look to SMU to show there is no correlation between a new stadium and a better record. All your guaranteed with a new stadium, is a better place to watch football.

Yeah, but how many of those States are hosting WrestleMania.

How can a school that produced Stone Cold Steve Austin and Kevin Von Eric not be considered as having a wrestling program?

5 To Rerun Stadium Story In A Few Minutes

Isn't a $10 fee replacing a $3 fee the same as a $7 increase. Instead of being critical we should be happy to be getting local sports coverage. -
Isn't there a $10 State cap on athletic fees?

A $60 Million Football Stadium= Only 32,000 Seats

This isn't playstation, you just don't get invited to a bigger/better conference. The chance to change conferences is another one of those bad arguments, that distracts from the issue at hand. The students are voting to replace Fouts. A concept plan for the proposed stadium is already in place. -
There are a lot of bad arguments going around both for and against the stadium. My fear is that these bad arguments cloud the issue and will hamper the students' ability make an informed decision next month. AGAINST THE STADIUM "The team's not winning, they don't deserve a new stadium." On the field performance should not be the standard for capital projects. Should we have built the stadium back when the team was winning? If the team wins in the new stadium, should be build them a bigger stadium? The issue at hand is that Fouts out dated. "We should spend this money on something else." The student vote is over a athletic fees, nothing else. The money can't be used for music practice rooms, or women's health center. There is no zero sum trade-off between the stadium and any other issue or project. The vote is simply athletic fee or no athletic fee. "The students shouldn't have to pay for this" State law says athletic fees can't pay for more than 50% of the stadium. It's the school's football program. It's the student's football team. This is why the students get to make the choice if they want this. "Someone else should pay for this" Recent calls for Al Gore or T. Boone Pickens to sponsor the stadium are naive. It's "our" stadium, the question being posed to the students is do you want this, if so you have to pay for it. The sponsorship element must have value, why should someone else invest in your project if your not willing to do it yourself." FOR THE STADIUM "It was promised" No one except the Board of Regents was in the position to promise a new stadium (not even RV). So if the BOR took some action to promise the stadium, it should be in an official document and they should have budgeted for it. "Coach Dodge will leave' I think on the field performance has more to do this issue, than the stadium.

Um... I'm sure there will be plenty of tickets available the day of the game. Why would the ticket office have extended hours, when the games don't sell out?

Wright Waters - No Bcs Road Games For Less Than &1million
shaft replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I think WW is real good commissioner, but I think holding out for a mil is bad idea. There was an article from Austin posted on here a few weeks back that detailed show shocked the BCS community was over the UT/FAU payout. A&M's attitude of nothing over $500k may be a little outdated, but forcing the BCS conferences' hand might backfire into more d1aa/fcs teams. -
I think there are too many bowl games. College football is the only sport where over have the field makes it to the post season (most sports allow a 1/3 of the field into the post season.) But I guess as long as there is a market for this many bowl games who is to say there are too many. Instead of an a cut off at #4, I think the NCAA could improve the bowl situation if if didn't allow d1aa/fcs wins to count towards bowl eligibility.
-
I'm shocked. I was sure the homers on this board would want to see an oil painting of Hayden Fry riding a giant green eagle.
-
This thread is a bad idea. Until we start playing SMU every year, there really isn't this great rivalry.
-
There is no reason for a D1/FBS team to play any d1aa/fcs teams. I do give LSU a bit of a pass on the Appy State game for the reason that is was a novelty to match the "two" champions against each other, especially after Appy win in the Big House. Had Appy not had the upset of the century there is no reason for them to being playing D1/FBS program.
-
It looks like the Belt went 0-3. d1aa/fcs games don't mean anything. (Unless you lose to one, then you suck). .

Denton does really good tourism business. The Denton Chamber is really good a promoting Denton. The Chamber and their tourism/CVB staff would be a really good ally to have in the stadium "debate." The Chamber would be an excellent 3rd party source to study the value of the new stadium. That information might prove helpful to trying to persuade the students in their vote. If your not a register Denton voter or a Chamber member your not going to have any leverage over the Chamber or Council.
-
Why don't we make the discussion about the student vote being a referendum on RV into its own thread. I was trying to use thread as a way to get some people on this board who are Denton voters and Denton Chamber of Commerce members to flex their muscle a little bit. The City and Chamber have the ability to respond rather quickly to issues relating to tourism and hotel/motel funds. So if your a chamber member do us a favor and ask the director what the Chamber is doing to support the stadium?
-
Fully aware of City of Denton reputation on economic development projects and the complexities of inter-local agreements is why I'm bringing up the Denton Chamber of Commerce and the City of Denton's Hotel/Motel fund. People on this board are Chamber members and can simply ask the chamber what they are doing to support the stadium and sports related tourism.
-
I know for a fact that City and County can contribute funds to the stadium project. I also know the City spends a lot of hotel/motel money on the Chamber of Commerce to operate the Denton Convention & Visitors Bureau. So what are they doing to support the stadium project? The CVB can find ways to support area horse ranches and and old west wagon trails, what are they doing to support "sports" related tourism.
-
Has there been any talk of support from the County or City? Like say some portion of the hotel/motel tax? The University likes to tout its "partnership" with the State and City of Dallas relating to the law school, what do we have going on the local scene?
-
Didn't the 1 in 4 years rule go away when the NCAA moved to a 12 game regular season? I don't buy that we should lower our standards to play d1aa/fcs because it's good for them, and keeps them out of D1. FBS vs fcs payouts are low ($200,000 - $300,000), while FBS vs FBS payouts start at $500,000. I also don't buy that if big rich school like North Texas don't share the wealth, then the fcs teams will have to move up. It takes a lot of cash to make the D1 conversion (stadium, number of athletic programs, number of scholarships). Also D1 isn't the land of milk and honey, the majority of programs operate a loss every year. Which is more of a reason, D1/FBS teams should only play other D1/FBS.
-
UNT can't afford to schedule a d1aa/fcs tune up games early in the season. The reason LSU, UT, and OU pay us $500,000+ is to serve as their warm-up games. A d1aa/fcs home game doesn't generate that kind of revenue. Its nice to wish we didn't have to schedule buy games or body bag games, but the reality of the matter is we do. If you really want to change the way the team schedules, then be prepared to find a way to make home games more profitable for the A.D. Scheduling weak opponents seems unnecessary when we already play some soft D1 competition in conference play. The SBC will always have a bottom 10 team or two, so why do we need to lighten up the OOC schedule? The answer has more to do with the product were placing on the field, than the competition we are facing.

I thought this game was an improvement over the last time we played Tulsa.
