  1. Is there any way to set up a fund through the athletic department, NT-exes, or some other organization where the donations could be used as the signing bonus for a new coach? I really don't want to withhold cash from the university, but I don't want to just give the the stadium fund and say that everything is ok the Dodge product.
  2. If the OOC bump of Cincy & TCU mattered, OU would currently be ranked a head of Texas. Texas has the head-to-head win, that comes before any Strength Of Schedule argument to most pollsters. And what about #5 USC?
  3. So how does #3 OU make it past #2 Texas? Why does #10 Ohio State get an at-large over #9 Boise who still has one more game to help boost their ranking?
  4. I don't think you can dismiss Dodge's mistakes with a "perfect storm" analogy. Dodge made some fatal mistakes right out of the gate; clean sweep of the old staff, bringing in a high school staff, too complex of a system. Dodge's judgement is the problem, not the situation surrounding him. But hey, when I said we should start the new coach discussion a few weeks ago, I was told how insane I was and how it would cost the team too much.
  5. So what's the difference between a playoff and what we are getting with the regular season? Every week is an elimination round. The BCS poll is not a seeding system, that's why UT can jump to #2. A two-tiered post season would be bad for college football and teams like UNT.
  6. Actually, Flair did tap out to Bret Heart. Besides being the commissioner of all sports I also have an encyclopedic understanding of pro-wrestling (and an auto-graphed copy of Ric Flair's biography.)
  7. I'm now of the mindset, Dodge can't do the program any more harm so let him stay on to next season. Why not get another recruiting class out of him and give RV a year to shop for a new head coach. If we are really going to have to pay through the nose to fire the guy, we should use him for all he's worth.
  8. If you believed Dickey needed to go, then the Dodge hire made sense. At the time Dodge hire appeared to be a little risk, high reward hire. Exciting offense, recruiting connections, created a buzz. There were two big questions about hiring Dodge. 1. Could he get college level assistant coaches. 2. Could he really recruit. Now that the Dodge era has brought the program to a historic low, the question is not does this guy no what he's doing, but what can we do with him. I now say let Dodge stick it out for year three. That way we at least get another batch of recruits out of him. I'm not sure anyone can get us out of this situation, so we might as well leave Dodge at the helm, while RV shops for a new coach.
  9. Dodge should probably get a 3rd year, but he should be put on notice. 5 or 6 wins or else. I'd like to see how Dodge is able to recruit this season, and how his first two recruiting classes play next season.
  10. Rodriguez should be fired.
  11. A&M doesn't want to pay visiting D1/FBS more than $500,000, I doubt they will pay Lamar anything close to that. There is a reason the SBC commissioner is advising teams to ask for a million dollars for a buy game. (Footnote: The Austin Statesman article posted on the board about FAU getting a record pay out to play Texas.)
  12. Yeah, and why isn't every UNT game on national TV? And why isn't UNT one of the teams that have their logo on pop-tarts? And why are the logo pop-tarts only cinnamon? I hate cinnamon pop-tarts.
  13. I don't believe this statement is true and that you can produce any proof to back it up.
  14. Well it looks like Dodge has some work to do. If the Head Coach is the guy in charge of PR and Fund Raising as many on this board have stated.
  15. Head Coach.
  16. I heard XCW lost their lease at old Groovy Mule on Ft. Worth Avenue. I don't really have time to take over as head coach, I'm in the process of campaigning for Commissioner of All Sports.
  17. The PAC-10 is the only auto-bid conference to schedule no d1aa/fcs teams. Teams can't control how good their conference is going to be, they can control who their OOC games will be.
  18. My point is the "poor little UNT" argument doesn't apply. 1. Other coaches have won here (with less $$$) 2. Other schools have won with similar financial constraints (and yes I think the Sun Belt is an excellent benchmark for our program.) 3. According to Dozer, Dodge has more financial resources than previous coaching staffs. Dickey had the exact same "asset" constraints, and put out a better product. Arkansas State has the same constraints and puts out a better product.
  19. I don't understand the "we don't have the resources" argument. Dicky and Simon had those same resources, and they did better than Dodge. According to Dozer, Dodge has more resources than Dickey but has done less. UNT has comparable funding to the rest of the Sun Belt, yet Dodge has done less than other conference coaches in their second year. If the only benefit of Dodge is his popularity, then he's outlived his usefulness.
  20. What's so crazy about the SEC champ vs the Big 12 champ for the National Title? The Big 12's tie breaker is to have the team with the best BCS standing play in the conference championship. They do that for a reason, to position themselves in to play for a national title.
  21. The fire, fire, fire mindset is what brought us Dodge. Despite DD's mis-steps he still did what we asked of him, win games. And most notably he beat SMU that last season. Dozer seems to be hung up on how popular Dodge is. I'm saying that ship has sailed. To me the big difference between Dodge and Dickey is magic bullets. Dickey ran a simple system that worked. Fans got tired of it and cried out for the flash (and fizzle) that is Todd Dodge. With no experience as a college football coach, we expect Dodge to be some magic recruiter. So where are Mr. Popularity's great recruits? How many of his wide receivers are starting? Wasn't Riley save us?
  22. I don't buy the argument that the Head Coach is responsible for the program's PR. I think that's the Athletic Director is responsible for PR. Dodge didn't get the stadium vote passed, RV did. The Head Coach is responsible for the product on the field, and Dodge's product stinks.
  23. I don't think you can blame the spread. Lots of teams use it, and we still have the ball the same amount of time we did under Dickey's Run & No Fun offense. We made a mistake as fans. I'm sorry the people who had their feelings hurt my Dickey, who called for his firing, who clammared for Dodge, are now the ones forced to defend Dodge. I think the time has come to end the high school experiment. Dodge's firing is inevitable. The question is do we do it at the end of the season or wait ten more months until Dodge has secured another losing season.
  24. DD's mis-steps were not changing his recruiting practices and coaching staff fast enough. But his biggest gaffe was his relationship with the fans/donors. But I still think the SMU win should have earned Dickey one more season.
  25. GrandGreen say: "One of the reasons we are in this current mess is that DD was not fired earlier. DD was a much better on field coach than the current TD, but at least TD has an opportunity to improve. DD was on a down spiral that could never have been corrected. " Shaft says: I'm confused, Grand Green says we should we have fired Dickey sooner. When should we have done that, after his third or fourth conference championship? Dickey was fired a season and a half after our last New Orleans Bowl. Dodge has none nothing but make the team worst team in D1 in his two seasons at the helm. My question is for everyone who thought Dickey should go, when should RV dismiss Dodge?
