Is anyone really worried about some ex-music student sending faxes to state reps about the soul of the university? This guy wants elected officials to overlook UNT students' democratic choice.

Pssst. The stadium is a result of our on field success. Four straight conference championships put the program in a new position to start planning for the stadium. Stadium by themselves not make programs better. And rambling about single seasons and one big win doesn't matter either. But like I said, I'm glad were getting a new stadium. I hope the next coach does really well there.
-
The stadium is going to be built. Attendance will even be up the first few years of the new stadium. But a new era? SMU has a nice stadium, they've had one for a a few years now. Era's are defined by the product on the field, and the Dodge era is the worst in school history. But hey I'm glad were getting a new stadium.

excerpt from http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/...4.9e7ecc21.html "Getting the stadium built would mean to the North Texas fan sitting on the fence that we are serious about being a player in Division I college football," said Harry Miers, a longtime UNT fan, supporter and founder of UNT fan Web site www.gomeangreen.com. "It would make alums to feel like they are putting their time and money into a good investment and give alums who haven't been back to the school in a while a reason to come back. If any program needed that right now, it's North Texas." Fans don't sit on the fence because of the stadium, they sit on the fence because of the product on the field.

Yeah its a regular Harvard by the Highway.
-
Sorry. I got my degree from a crappy state school.
-
Your a fool. You think our chancellor is secretly working agaisnt UNT because he's an SMU football fan? The UNT Law schools should be put off because of the economy. The City of Dallas hasn't remodled the old jail to accodate the school. So until the broke city does something, the state should sit tight on their cash.

More Money For Lamar
shaft replied to DeepGreen's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Why is this on the UNT message board? -
SMU...Isn't that the school that we beat with coach Dickey, but Dodge lost to with the same players?

Poor Army, They'll Never Get A Coach Now
shaft replied to MeanGreenHoops's topic in Mean Green Football
If this guy has a contract anything like some of the other coaches Army had we should snatch if up for something. Didn't Weatherbee at UL-M have a bunch of Army guys that UL-M only had to pay $1 dollar because Army covered the difference between the low salary and their old salary. -
Earlier this season I voiced the very important issue on UNT not being included in the list of teams to have their logo printed on pop tarts.
-
Isn't that $72 grand for tickets sales alone. Any word on the rest of the program's revenue?
-
Nope. Southlake's $60 grand includes tickets, parking, concessions, and advertising.
-
As anyone ever seen an article or any information on how much revenue the school makes per home game? I know Texas makes around $5 million per game, and the Star-Telegram had an article this morning that said South Lake Carroll makes around $60,000 per game.
-
I have a question for the people voted 4 games. Why is that a good standard for the program? What does going .500 in conference play show you?
-
I don't care about a coach's playing experience, I care about their coaching experience. There's a good story about Ted Williams (the greatest baseball player ever) trying to coach a minor leaguer. Williams was explaining how all the kid had to was make an adjustment and he could turn on and hit an inside fast ball out of the park. The kid replied if I could turn on an inside fast ball for a home run I wouldn't be in the minors.

I heard final coach's show and got my hopes up that RV had done the right thing to correct his mistake.
-
So Dodge is probably going to get a year three. So my question for the board is what should Dodge have to do to see year four? A Win a bowl game B. Win 8+ games C. Win 6+ games D. Win 4+ games E. Win 2+ games F. Not call us MF'ers
-
Yes, we are more like Ball State than Boise State. We even have the Paul Schaffer thing going for analogy.
-
It's not the end of the world if RV sticks with Dodge for year 3. In fact it is very likely that Dodge will get a 3rd season. If year 3 is anything like year 1 or 2, there won't be a year 4. RV has better judgement than that. If year 3 is a repeat of year 2 and RV gives Dodge year 4 then RV judgement will be in question. The AD's primary job is implementing the master plan. There personnel decisions are secondary.

To FFR: A while back some one told me that my posts resulted in people going to other private message boards. That's what I contribute to the board. A dissenting opinion, that exposes the blind logic of fanatics. I like to think I lighted up the cave that is gomeangreen.com I say UNT is not like Boise State because of off the field issues, so they are bad benchmark to compare ourselves to.
-
How should RV me remembered? With little bronze statues attached to every grill and cooler at all future tailgates. RV's legacy is the athletic facilities master plan. The coaching staff is secondary to school spirt he's created.

Plumm ranted: If even any "one" of DD's 4 bowl teams had been ranked near or in the Top 25, he would still be in Denton today and it would probably be a toss-up whether to have his or Hayden Fry's name on the upcoming new stadium; that is, if our new football palace is not going to be named after some corporation (which many of us still think will play a big part in its eventual construction). I really did not like some of the things I posted about Coach Dickey in hindsight, but what was posted back then was coming from an NT alum who as an NT student supported Mean Green football teams that (no matter how you slice it) did have some key wins over some key name football schools. This is still the barometer for many of us Old Gun Alums today. Had their been as many bowls back in 1975 as there are today, the University of Tennessee Vols (who we beat in 1975) would have been in a bowl since they did finish with a winning record in 1975. What I said during the last 2 years of DD Ball was merely in context as to what many of us still felt this program should be doing with winning records which would be tantamount to what our former Big West conference-mate, ie, the Boise State Broncos were doing with their own annual winning records and bowl teams, that's all. Can you blame us old NT foagies for thinking that UNT should expect no less than what the Broncos were getting with their winning seasons and bowl teams? Still............we can all only wish the best for Coach Dickey and right now we might all agree that even winning (bowl) teams annually ranked toward the Bottom 25 would be better than what we've had of late. The barometer for Mean Green football success has still apparently not been set high in Denton under present leadership and I don't know why. I still don't think its time to throw in the towel just yet, but Coach Dodge really needs a good recruiting year filled with Juco's (most likely) who can start, he needs an above .500 season in his upcoming 3'rd year and who is to say that in the conference we're in that we can't have just that? It's just that I don't think we will have such (even if successful in 2009) at the same level that the Boise State's of the NCAA D1-A world are having when they have winning seasons with ranked bowl teams, that's all. For many of us, we are really starting from scratch with this and have no idea where any of this is heading and for those from the Mean Joe Greene era thru the Fry years in Denton, all this is a source of great frustration. " Shaft says: Instead of hi-jacking another thread, I thought give this its own space. The Big West was bad for UNT and good for a bad Boise team. The spread out nature of the Big West was bad for our pocket book, and good for theirs. The Mountain Time Zone focus was bad for our press, and good for theirs. Boise got a better coach, better facilities, and their own bowl which help them take over a conference and develop into the team they are today. Your soap box rant about UNT deserves better is tired. What does 1975, Fry, or Mean Joe have to do with our current situation. There was no golden age of UNT football. DD was the best thing that happen to this program and fans like you came on the board and moaned about it.
-
Dickey succeeded because his scheme fit UNT. Dicky was fired because he failed to adjust his system to UNT's changing situation.

I agree that a OU win in Stillwater is more impressive than a UT blowout of ATM. But I don't think Bedlam is a foregone conclusion. And I still think the human polls give Texas the edge over OU because of the head-to-head win. If OU looses, Tech goes to the Big 12 championship and I'm not sure you can rank UT ahead of Tech if they are the Big 12 champ. Your doomsday scenario has a problem, if Tech and UT loose, OU goes to the Big 12 title game. I also think the SEC champ plays in National Championship, even if it picks up one more loss.
