Flomo just keeps making the same statement regardless of what anyone responds. (Maybe he's related to Plumm). UNT doesn't have a culture of losing. A culture of losing implies losing is acceptable. How many more examples do you need to school and fans demanding more from the team? -Coaching changes -Mid-season coaching changes -Improved salaries -Improved facilities -New Stadium -Strong attendance (for the conference)
-
I'm not sure a bad record is the same as a culture of losing.

Of course access to the DFW media is a strength of UNT's. I was refuting the ridiculous claim that UNT brings a huge media market with us citing an 1982 article. Ratings were a little different when there were only 3 tv stations. In the 80's it was common for the last place show to be pulling 20% of the viewing audience. @Plumm You're mocked enough on this board with your negative 400 ratings. Please bring your nonsense over to the national board I'm a mod for and see how well that works for you. And yes I think the SMU win should have warranted DD getting to keep his job for the remainder of the season. And yes I thought TD was a horrible hire. And yes, I think coach Mac is great hire and making really good assistant hires.

1. The cupboards aren't bare, their injured. 2. There is no culture of losing. The school just invested in new facilities and a new coach. A culture of losing implies its what people expect and are fine with. UNT has hiring expectations, that's why the last two coaches were fired mid-season. Our expectation is to wining seasons, bowl berths, and conference championships.

So your sticking with the ratings from 3 decades ago. I'm sure the MWC will jump right on that. I stick with the actual sources I used, when I started this thread.

Mwc: What Would North Texas Bring To The Table?
shaft replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
The only credible report out there says the MWC is going to wait a year and then if it decides to expand to look at Utah State and UTEP, both schools inside its footprint. If anyone has a link from a real newspaper that says otherwise, I'd double dog dare them to post it. -
So Plumm, the answer is No. You don't have any ratings to back up claim. UNT brings access to the DFW marketing, but its doen't bring the market. RV is doing good things to upgrade the program, but you don't have to over-sell those accomplishments and then back peddle with some bit of triva from decades ago.

The problem is MWC isn't looking at UNT. I'm sorry, I wish they were. But no credible media source is reporting otherwise. The guy that broke the BYU story says the MWC is going to look at UTEP and Utah State in a season. @Wardly I wouldn't put too much stock in rumors from other message boards. Even if it is a national message board that I'm a moderator for. @Jim It's not about CUSA being better than MWC, its about CUSA being a better fit for UNT. @Plumm still waiting for those ratings.
-
Fine. What are UNT's ratings from this century? And how do they compare to the other programs in the metroplex? I'm willing to guess more folks watched the ESPN doc on SMU tonight than any UNT game in the past twenty years.
-
There is still a few mistakes, you left the WAC on the map. Why even reference UTSA & TXST. There not in the FBS and there is no guarantee at this point they will be.
-
If Plumm disagrees with me then I know I'm right. Your living in an absolute green blinder fantasy land if you think UNT has any serious pull with the local media. But this is the year to buy into the team. 2011 is the year to pump as much money and attention into the school as possible, because it looks like there might me a a CUSA spot in 2012. We need to do everything we can to separate ourselves from LA Tech.
-
The MWC doesn't have presence in DFW, TCU does. I think the MWC knows that ship has sailed. Let's be honest UNT doesn't bring the DFW market with them if they go to the MWC. Also why are we talking about going to the MWC, they haven't shown any interest in us. The MWC is looking at Plan A: Stay at 10, Plan B: Go got 12 with USU and UTEP.

A lot of revisionist hate on the board. DD was fired a season and half after his 4th straight bowl. Personally I think the SMU win should have given DD one for season or at least let him finish out the year. But he did fail to upgrade the coaching staff when he was winning and it showed by the 2004 season. If the SBC hadn't been in such disarray we probably wouldn't have made to that last New Orleans Bowl. At the same time if we hadn't gone to that Bowl games Bowers wouldn't have shown the rest of the Belt how to beat the "Buick" offense.
-
2010 was the SBC's worst season since 2001. The difference is 3 teams made it to bowls, and there were no d1aa/fcs upset and mega blow outs.
-
IMO the best thing the Sun Belt could do is move to 12 teams. SBC East: FAU, FIU, Troy, USA, MTSU, WKY SBC West: ULL, ULM, LA Tech, ARK ST, UNT, UTSA It would dramatically lower travel costs and probably let each school avoid 1 more body bag game. It would also be nice to have all the divisional games within 6 hours. It wold also mean a bi-annual trip to Florida and Alabama instead of the annual trips.
-
The Big East is waiting on Villanova. The Mountain West is waiting a year to see if they need to go to 12, and it makes sense to take USU and UTEP. The question becomes what does CUSA do? Take either UNT or LA Tech to fill the hole or shift a team from the East and take a school like Troy. I'd still like to see a 12 team SBC by adding LA Tech and UTSA. If CUSA raids the SBC, the conference could fill the hole with NMSU or Texas State.

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/sports/50808891-77/conference-hawaii-football-west.html.csp The same guy who had the scoop on BYU going independent says the MWC is looking at Utah State and UTEP to get to 12. So if that that happens what does UNT need to do to beat out LA Tech for the 12th spot in CUSA.

Under Dodge the assistants were just excited to get out of having to teach home room.

I heard coach Mac was just going to use this board since were like 2 for 6,0000 in quality pics. Or maybe we can get some kid's dad on hear to talk about Tre Newton

Hawaii To Mwc
shaft replied to wardly's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
What? The Big East isn't taking a team out of CUSA. Even if it did why wouldn't the conference replace they with Troy to fill out their Eastern division? Also why are UNT and LA Tech out of the running? Facilities and baseball are what kept us out of CUSA in 2005. -
You mean TI isn't just giving out business parks? But his post was so long and had so many numbers.

Hawaii To Mwc
shaft replied to wardly's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Why does eliminating the Western most team in the conference mean they would add an East Coast Team? The last spot in CUSA was between UTEP, LA Tech, UNT. There is no reason to think UNT and LA Tech aren't still in the running, both schools have upgraded their programs since 2005. -
Yeah, they never really protected the house under the old deal

If Offered, Should We Join The Mountain West Conference?
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
A 12 team SBC or CUSA would be in the school's best interest. Geography is everything when you don't have BCS cash to offset the travel expenses.
