Brett McMurphy says North Texas Lock for NOLA
shaft replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
To add to this, I was the moderator for the college football news forums when this game happen and my all time favorite quote on the National Board as Boise Fans were trying to state their case. "How can it be the greatest game ever if Oklahoma didn't win." That thought sums up 90% of the college football fans out there. They want their team to win, and they want heavyweight punch outs for the championship. This attitude is why all G5 bowls are all interchangeable.- 418 replies

Since these questions are starting to pop up in other threads, maybe we can keep all of those types of questions & comments here and the moderators can pin it.

DRC weekly prediction: UNT will pull off the stunner
shaft replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Somebody's trying to get off this board's sh*t list. If only he had worked in the phrases "old buick" and "new denton" -
Old Old Denton - Didn't invest in sports, didn't go bowling, dropped out of FBS and went to the Southland. Old Denton - Rejoined the FBS, didn't really invest in sports and was fine with the Big West and Sun Belt. RV build a bridge to new Denton through facilities. New Denton - Invest in sports proportionally, upgraded to Conference USA, and has the expectation they we continually get better and compete for a bowl slot. Real Denton - Understands that we still have a new coach, young team, have struggle against better competition all year, and our running back is out for the post season. Fan Boy - Screams and yells, is entitled, has delusions of grander, conspiracy theories about everything that has held them back, and understands Plumm's posts.

Saying dumb things like "we deserve" and "you've got to take risks" show a fundamental lack of understanding of NCAA football. Let's quit bitching & moaning and get behind our team.- 418 replies

I don’t think there are better bowls for G5’s. All the bowl payouts are basically the same for the mid-majors.

If someone else helped pay for school and they want to see you walk, then walk. It they didn’t or don’t care go to New Orleans. Graduations are boring. Just take a few cap and gown photos on campus and get out of town.

Yes. In 2003. The neighborhood is not as stecky as it was and there is now the Canal Street Car line. I would wait and see what the University puts together for a student plan. In the past they done a charter bus, game ticket, and hotel share for cheap.- 418 replies

Grow up. CUSA does not have a tie-in to the HOD this season, they traded it for the Armed Forces Bowl. A fourth game against Army in two years doesn't do anything for us. The Team feels a DFW bowl doesn't do anything for them. Let's get behind our team and start booking some hotels.- 418 replies

1. Because we don't need 7 polls asking the same question. 2. This poll asks the question, what's the next best option. We all agree an Independence Bowl match up against a P5 schools is the best choice.
-
Didn't want to get into a pissing match, but those links were old. The NCAA did change the rules, but there is still some kind of limit. The limit is also different for New Years 6 & CFP teams. The other side of the "more practice time" argument is less recruiting time.
-
I like that this thread has shown a lot of renewed optimism, I'm sad out how naïve some us are. The gap between P5 & G5 is huge. Talk of "national" attention is wishful thinking. Undefeated UCF is #14. Only 3 G5 teams in the top 25. We need to become a regional power house. Win our division, compete for conference title, sell out our stadium, go to bowls the kids want to go to, win bowl games. You don't get those things by finishing the year 0-2, slaughtered in a bowl game, missing your star running back. We have some momentum right now, let's use it to build the program the right way. Go to the games, buy season tickets, buy a playoff game ticket, sell out our bowl allotment.
-
We should start one watch party thread & pin it on the top of this page.
-
I think there is consensus that a match up with a P5 Team in the Independence Bowl or Heart of Dallas Bowl would be our best choice, but let's say that's not on the table.
-
We need to stay away from the same bowl in back-to-back years to reward the team, energize the fan base, and entice recruits. The Armed Forces Bowl would have been great, but not against Army again.
-
There is has been a lot of the use of the word "I" in these bowl threads. We get some actual insight from the AD about the bowl selection process and the fanboys on this forum keep howling about their personal preferences based on what's best for them, and not the program. With that being said, we should go to the New Mexico Bowl because I can stay at my abuela's house because I like her enchiladas the best. Grandma's home cooking, that's what this bowl should be about.

USA Today says HOD vs Tech https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2017/11/28/bowl-projections-wisconsin-auburn-move-into-college-football-playoff-field/900204001/

Overall bowl payouts are almost the same for 75% of the bowls. What differs is the ticket allotment & gate revenue share vs direct payment options. I believe the Independence Bowl has a higher overall bowl payout than the other CUSA bowls, but also has a larger ticket block that must be bought by the team. It makes sense that the CUSA champ would want the Independence Bowl.

Old Denton didn’t go to bowls, let alone be in a position to receive multiple bowl invites.
-
It also says Independence Bowl will be FSU vs FAU. I’m not sure FSU wants to play FAU if they lose Jimbo. Indepence Bowl vs anybody should be our top choice.
-
Because CUSA doesn’t have a direct tie-in to the Independence Bowl, they’re the designated alternate to the bowl (which projections have being filled by P5 schools).
-
I like that we have two similar polls going. And when you look a realistic options, New Orleans leads both polls.
-
I'm not so sure it's going to be Troy, it can easily be Arkansas State or App State.
