  1. How does this all effect UNT? Its bad timing for one. If A&M jumps to the SEC, and the Big 12 adds Houston as ESPN is speculating then the arms race is on between UNT and LA Tech for a spot in CUSA. And while we have momentum of a new coach and the new stadium, are we ready for the capital campaign that would be required to get UNT into CUSA? Are we ready to fan up and buy EXTRA season tickets for football, basketball, and women's basketball?
  2. How is this comment not in violation of forum rules?
  3. Is there a better word to use than "lure". You make it sound like he had a van full of candy.
  4. I thought TCU was the Oregon of the region.
  5. That's not the book store? Ugh. The problem isn't the merchandise its the layout & decorum. We should close the fashion merchandising program if this is the best we can do.
  6. USF has a huge sports complex. UTSA's move to FBS is more like FAU's & FIU's than USF's move. UTA's move is Seattle move. No one cares and its a desperation by the WAC.
  7. A CUSA swap won't happen because of economics. No CUSA program is going to give up the bigger payout. I'm not sure the WAC ever becomes a better option for UNT. It would take the WAC creating a central time zone division to make it feasible (which could happen by 2016 when UTA adds football). WAC - East LA Tech UTSA TXST UTA UNT UL-L WAC - West SJSU ID USU NMSU Montana Montana St But I don't think that's a better option than Choice A. UNT moves into CUSA because the Big East takes a CUSA member Choice B. 12 Team SBC, adding LA Tech & one other (NMSU/TXST/UTSA/UTA)
  8. Green2012's housing bubble analogy is interesting but flawed. When was the last time a team dropped out of D1/FBS? These new fcs move-ups might not have enough "equity" in their sports program, but no one is going to kick them out of FBS.
  9. I heard a radio ad for the new stadium and season tickets today.
  10. The WAC is in desperation mode adding unproven fcs-move ups to stabilize the conference. But at certain point the possibility a Texas focused division becomes appealing for UNT. So at what point does the new WAC become a good option for the Mean Green.
  11. Why would Texas go Indy? They just got everything they wanted from the Big 12 (minus two) with its own network.
  12. LA Tech has the flexibility to wait and see how the new WAC shakes out while taking in unequal payouts from the new members. Tech's goal is simple upgrade and get into CUSA. If that doesn't happen, the new WAC sucks, and the state starts holding back cash, LA Tech will move to the SBC. LA Tech has built its capital campaign on separating themselves from UL-M.
  13. I thought it was interesting how the divide inside each conference was similar. Also how did FAU lose money in 2009?
  14. As a collegefootballnews.com moderator I take full credit for all the UNT/WAC hate on that board.
  15. I like to know more about how he got the name "mad dog?"
  16. The WAC added Seattle University today, so its a mute issue. And no the SBC isn't missing out on Texas State. Texas State would have jumped ship to another conference the first chance they got.
  17. LA Tech and NMSU are waiting for the uneven payouts from the teams leaving the WAC, by that point they should know what the future of the WAC looks like and they'll make their decision. Why leave money on the table, when there is a chance the economy will turn and the WAC will make it.
  18. My favorite part is where he retracts the statement about UTA. ** Slight correction. In the sixth paragraph, I published that Benson had met with Seattle, Lamar and Utah Valley among other unnamed schools. He wanted me to stress that those schools have merely shown interest. Texas-Arlington was also not on the list. That part has been retracted.

  20. So the WAC conference meetings wrapped up without any expansion invites. Does this many anything for UNT and the Belt?
  21. I also heard no SEC team will be joining the WAC. Is it really expansion talk, when you list schools that won't join your conference.
  22. No, the Dodge hire was not some master plan to low ball the rest of the conference. 1. We had to raise our pay scale to get Dodge. 2. Nice try, trying to spin the worst coaching era in school history.
  23. One might want to read the Shreveport newspaper before they speculate on which team dominates the market.
  24. What are the three most important actions you would take if elected? How would you push for them and pay for them? Mike Sutton: 1. I would eliminate gas wells. I would push for further research and cooperation with other communities which have already researched the long-term effects of fracture drilling and attempt to move the council to vote against the current zoning in the drilling areas. In order to offset the loss in tax revenue from these companies, I would encourage local businesses to stimulate our taxing jurisdictions. Additionally, I support cuts to certain city services including code enforcement and municipal involvement in the construction of the UNT football stadium. I would also favor increasing taxes and removing tax breaks on businesses from outside of our community. http://www.thevoterguide.org/v/dallas11/endorse.do?id=220492142
  25. This is a dream come true. LA Tech is the logical choice, but the SBC is in the drivers seat and can use NMSU for the 11th spot to play LA Tech vs. Texas State vs. UTSA for the 12th spot. LA Tech has been able to stay in the WAC since the last round of expansion because of the unequal payments and BCS cash. The new WAC is not economically viable for LA Tech. A 12 teams Sun Belt would be a huge financial boost to LA Tech with all divisional games with in a few hours drive.
