Now that we've made the leap, how will we fare?
shaft replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
Our problem hasn't been CUSA teams have our number, our problem is Tulsa has had our number. While CUSA is an upgrade from the SBC we're not going to be "out of our league." UAB, UTSA, FIU, Rice, LA Tech, Tulane are in similar positions. UTEP, ECU, and Marshall have slight edges, while Tulsa and Southern Miss are the most established programs. -
UTSA was already in transition from fcs to FBS so there shouldn't be any real heartburn there. And it wasn't that the SBC might swoop in on Charlotte, the SBC had already offered. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/7879241/unc-charlotte-49ers-decline-offer-sun-belt-conference-source-says I still don't get the Old Dominion move. It just seems like another SBC or MAC school would have made more sense.

I know we keep talking about a 10 team MWC and a 14 team CUSA, but what are the chances it will be 24 team merger/alliace. MWC - West HI, Fresno, UNLV, Nev, SJSU,USU MWC - Mountain WY, CSU, AF, NM, UTEP, UTSA CUSA - West Tulsa, UNT, Rice, LA Tech, Tulane, Southern Miss CUSA - East Marshall, UAB, ECU, FIU, Charlotte, Old Dominion

ODU may not be done: MTSU could be replacement?
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't get the draw of Charlotte and Old Dominion. FAU, and GA St bring more to the table market wise. -
So if its 14 teams how will the conference games work? Let's say its two 7 team divions CUSA-West UTEP UTSA UNT Rice Tulsa LA Tech Tulane CUSA-East Marshall ECU FIU Southern Miss UAB Charlotte Old Dominion That means a team would play 6 division games (3 home, 3 away) How will the other conference games work? 2-4 games?

Who do you see as North Texas' future rival in CUSA?

Are we still feuding with the University of Texas Colts? -
Pssst. UTSA haters, We we're already competing against UTSA for recruits. Pretending they don't exist on the internet hasn't kept Larry Coker and crew off the recruits campus. Hiding from your competition and failure to embrace your weaknesses is a bad strategy in life and in football recruiting. We have to accept that we are in Texas the most heavily recruited state in the nation.

Assuming the TXST & UTA news is true, it will be interesting to see if the SBC will take back either New Mexico State or Idaho.
-
So why is the DRC blog after the CBS story? I'd like to think Vito had this story, and had been sworn to secrecy and couldn't write about. But CBS's unconfirmed story let the cat out of th bag, all bets were off. Either way,Great News for the Mean Green.

Have FIU & LA Tech's powers-that-be taken action to authorize a conference change?
-
Karl Bensen get's paid $400,000 a year to add fcs teams and keep existing bowl contracts.
-
Or UTEP or Rice. Or nearby Tulsa or LA Tech. This alignment is perfect for us.
-
Is mobile a code word for fool. 1. CUSA pays more than the SBC. Even a reworked CUSA deal will be better than the SBC deal. 2. Divisional play is cheaper. 3. In-state rivals.
-
He had workouts with both the Cowboys and Saints. Glad to see him stay local.
-
That's the benefit of UTEP moving to the MWC, it guarantees enough slots in CUSA for UNT and LA Tech.
-
In what scenario does TX State make it into CUSA? Why does anyone care about Charlotte if we only have to play them every other year, and only travel there every fourth year. This board's "no fcs" stance lacks credibility after being in the SBC with fcs move ups USA, WKY, FIU, and FAU. I'm hoping for a 12/12 to put the WAC out of it's misery. TX St would probably go to back fill our spot in the SBC, Idaho goes to fcs hell.
-
So if UTEP is really moving to the MWC were looking at few main realignment scenarios. Option A: 10 Team CUSA, 10 Team MWC CUSA Tulsa, Rice, Tulane,UNT, LA Tech, Marshall, ECU, UAB, Southern Miss,FIU MWC Hawaii, Fresno, UNLV, Nevada, Wyoming, CSU, Air Force, New Mexico, UTEP, Utah State Option B: 12 Team CUSA, 10 Team MWC CUSA West Tulsa, Rice, Tulane,UNT, LA Tech, UTSA East Marshall, ECU, UAB, Southern Miss,FIU, and one of these Charlotte or FAU or MTSU MWC Hawaii, Fresno, UNLV, Nevada, Wyoming, CSU, Air Force, New Mexico, UTEP, Utah State Option C: 12 Team CUSA, 12 Team MWC CUSA West Tulsa, Rice, Tulane,UNT, LA Tech, UTSA East Marshall, ECU, UAB, Southern Miss,FIU, and one of these Charlotte or FAU or MTSU MWC West Hawaii, Fresno, UNLV, Nevada, Utah State, San Jose State East Wyoming, CSU, Air Force, New Mexico, UTEP, New Mexico State So the question to the board is which one would you prefer?

Regents delegate authority to Rawlins to move conferences
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
So the BOR just said its okay to marry our daughter. Now all CUSA has to do is ask. -
ez2b1 1:47 PM on 4/25/2012 The CUSA needs UNT more than UNT needs the CUSA. The CUSA is a hollow shell of what it once was as a conference. The candidate schools deserve a date certain for a decision. " UNT is very happy in the Sunbelt Conference and is very impressed by the new commissioner's efforts to re-brand and expand the SB conference." Why would we want to join the island of misfit toys lead by incompetent individuals, who after eight months, cannot even a decision on the basic structure of the conference. Anyone notice the comments on the actual article. Why does UNT want to be in CUSA? Because it pays more and will put us in a conference with closer, bigger name teams.

1. Are we really starting threads about a tweet someone read on another message board? 2. Who let this SMU jerk in?
-
3. No one should be surprised by the potential failure of a proposed merger of the MWC and C-USA. A merger would mean one automatic NCAA tournament bid instead of two. The most likely scenario, according to league sources, is for a scheduling/television agreement. Expansion is likely with C-USA looking at North Texas, FIU, Louisiana Tech, Charlotte, UTSA and Middle Tennessee. The MWC would naturally look at Utah State and San Jose State and could possibly grab UTEP in a shift from C-USA to the more natural MWC. http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/58199/3-point-shot-msg-out-for-east-regional

However, TU athletic director Ross Parmley said on Thursday that "everything is moving forward on the merger, agreement or whatever you want to call it." http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/article.aspx?subjectid=203&articleid=20120420_203_B1_THEGOO994833

Seven out of ten? You gave us the same three indicators multiple different ways. Budget - MTSU Football Attendance,Stadium Size, Enrollment and SAT's are all a wash. BB Arena Size - Irrelevant. Why does it matter than MTSU has more empty seats than FAU. Basketball - Yes BB is important, but its not that important. RPI changes with the conference change. Media Market - FAU. South Florida is a huge market. All time wins - Irrelevant. Conference is expansion is about what you bring to the table. I don't buy a change in conference will help one school's attendance, but not another. I also think your downplaying FAU new stadium too much.

This is great information. It makes a lot of sense. But it is also from a thread with Charlotte fans creeping on construction cam to claim guys in suits = merger.
