5 Changes to Level Playing Field for Qualification
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It's bleacher report so its not worth reading, but here are 5 real ways to level the playing field in college football. 1. Greater revenue sharing 2. Independent ranking committee 3. Eliminate FBS vs. fcs games 4. More at-large bowl slots 5. Decrease the scholarship limit -
So if ODU is in, when would they become a full D1/FBS program?

50 players didn't fail a drug test. Coaches know who their suspect players are. When the NCAA random test pulled UNT's suspect group, Dodge tested everyone. Sometimes its better to show the entire "universe" than rely on a statistical sample.

It's awesome. I watched a half from every part of the stadium last season and saved the club level seats for last. When I was up there a lot of people weren't into the game, but I don't think its the club level. It was the last half of the season, the weather was horrible, and we crushing MTSU. Pro: It's dry, food is good, unlimited sodas, good sight lines, close restrooms, they sell alcohol Con: When your inside you don't hear the announcers The sight lines are that much different than the upper level.

It's not that big of a change. The same kids can go to the same schools, they just have to sit for a year. "While student-athletes who would have qualified under the old eligibility requirements will still be eligible to attend, they must do so with an “academic redshirt.” This will allow student-athletes who are below the new academic standards to still attend school and practice but must do so while passing their freshman year in college and not being allowed to play in games. While this may seem almost pointless, it will encourage high school students to focus just a little bit more on academics than in previous years."

Seems like a bit of a whine. Yes Tulsa and SMU have been in the same conference for 16 years. But its not like Rice losing their historic littermate in Houston. And Tulsa didn't have any problem leaving the WAC and accepting their share of the $25 million the departing CUSA schools are leaving on the table and the $8 million the new members are buying in with. And while sobs stories abound of the "unfairness" of the BCS, its not like Tulsa ever sniffed a BCS bid, but got left out.

SMU Professor Says Move To Big East Will Hurt SMU...
shaft replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Then that professor should be fired. CUSA is awesome for UNT. The new CUSA West will lower athletic travel costs and increase sports revenue. -
1. Boise and SDSU in the MWC to get to 12 would be awesome. 2. The return of Houston, SMU, USF, UCF and Memphis would be cool. 3. What is FCC. 4. No one is going to a three division system 5. As I was informed by the human resources department "Chinese Fire drill" is a degrogratory term that implies Asians aren't smart and would run back in to a burning building

SMU Professor Says Move To Big East Will Hurt SMU...
shaft replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the Big East split is a myth perpetuated by message board operators to drive traffic to the site in the off season. We've been hearing about the sp,it for years and all the Big East has done is expand and become more football focused. -
SMU Professor Says Move To Big East Will Hurt SMU...
shaft replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Moves like this don't come out a head based on dollars. Moves like this are about buying an image. Just like Arlington & Cowboys stadium. -
This could go too manys to worry about it destroying CUSA. Big East Spits = ACC, Big 12, MWC, and CUSA gooble up the football schools.
-
Let's be honest, we don't really care who get's the last spot in CUSA East. The new CUSA West division is perfect for UNT. We just want the last team to be the one that brings the most money to the table. It's hard to really care about a team we will only play once every three or four years and visit only once every seven years.

Hey Mark. Maybe you should take your Old Dominion chamber of commerce show to the basketball forum, because they don't have any FOOTBALL skins to hang on the wall.
-
They barely have football. I would rather have FAU or even GA St. Push the SBC out of Florida or take the bigger Atlanta market.

1. Its a NCAA violation 2. NMSU & Idaho suck

There's more than 120 FBS teams 121 - USA 122 - UTSA 123 - TXST 124 - UMASS 125 - UNCC 126 - ODU (maybe)

The problem with a 24-team megaconference is who would move West? With a merger between the new CUSA & MWC you could get get to 4 four 6-team pods. But who besides UTEP would move from CUSA-West (Tulsa, UNT, UTSA, Rice, LA Tech, Tulane) to MWC-East? Why would the CUSA teams want to give up these close games?

Bowl game / scheduling opportunities
shaft replied to ScreamingEaglesFan's topic in Mean Green Football
Bowl realignment follows conference realignment. Fort Worth bowl, Independnece bowl, and Potato bowl could all be looking for new tie-ins. CUSA Bowls from the all knowing wikipedia Liberty Bowl vs. SEC #7 Hawaii Bowl vs MWC #3 or HI Armed Forces Bowl vs Navy (2013) New Orleans Bowl vs SBC #2 Beef O Brady's Bowl vs Big East #6 Ticket City Bowl vs Big Ten #7 -
Not just out of the SBC, but into something better. RV had the discipline and vision to push the atheletic village, new stadium, and keep us out of the WAC. Now we get something we've never had, regional rivals.

Now that we've made the leap, how will we fare?
shaft replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
1. How can you hate on a day like today? 2. Of course we can compete. 5 bowls slots that's what CUSA football is all about.
