Sounds Like We're Losing Another C-USA Member
shaft replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Are you talking about the same TCU that regularly played home-homes with us as recently as 2001. -
The original plan for the 2013 CUSA schedule was to have LA Tech play in the Eastern division until ODU got up to FBS speed. Is there any chance they change that for 2013 and make Tulane play in the Eastern division?
-
That doesn't make any sense, we all know San Diego State belongs in the East.
-
I really liked the idea of going to New Orleans every other fall. The western division set up had great potential to really minimize travel costs. A traditional 12 team set will still be an improvement over the SBC.
-
Why is 14 the magic number? That easten division would have 5 teams that have less tha 10 years of D1 experience.

If only there was some type of survey or census taken every 10 years to give us these populations estimates. Now back to the topic. Bowl Realignment.
-
Tulane to the Big East, does the New Orleans bowl go with them?
-
The Sam Houston coach? Dodge's non-traditional wins? What are you people talking about? Between posts like these and some of the tantrums other long time posters have thrown we're in for the stupidest off-season in years.

I've notice the MAC championship game isn't get much attention. Besides match ranked teams with a BCS busting possiblity this year, if the same situation occurs next year the MAC would be in the Access Bowls instead of the Big East. There is no reason to think CUSA won't be able to put itself in a similar situation.

Setting the record straight on Mac's recruiting
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
And that's why I said the haters were being irrational or don't know how to judge a football program. I thought so poorly of Dodge I was shocked the team won two games last year. The Dodge experiment set this team so far back it is going to take three years to completely rebuild the team. That's what it takes when you're a bottom 10 team. The realistic expectation is a .500 bowl season in year four. -

Still no response from the haters I can only assume Htown is being ironic because he adds to the Mac performance by pointing out the schools limits an use of u degrades fueling the bare cupboard claims. Emmitt makes a false comparison about kid touchers and serial killers. But still no response to the fact that Mac has more wins. If you are hating on the coach right now you are either a bad fan, irrational or a bad judge the shape this program was in after 2010. -
Setting the record straight on Mac's recruiting

For the folks complaining about the lack of progress how do you explain more wins in the last two seasons than the previous four? -
Setting the record straight on Mac's recruiting

Maybe that's the difference, I don't see this seaso as a nose dive, just a failure to takeoff. Dodge destroyed this program. He didn't get D1 players, he didn't coach them up. We were a bottom 10 program. Now Mac is starting over. He's already done more than Dodge ever did against stiffer competition. 9 wins in two seasons vs. 8 wins over the last four seasons. -
Setting the record straight on Mac's recruiting
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I didn't know our recruits measured up to the level of K-State & Alabama's? I didn't know that Dodge's recruiting was on par with the Big 12 & SEC's so could get the same level of Juco transfers. This is a dumb argument. No one is saying being a juco makes you a bad person, but everyone knows jucos are not the way to rebuild a team. Jucosare a way to close a gap at a few positions. Also this juco sub-debate doesn't address the big picture. MAC has sat his recruits to build them up and learn his system. One of the reason's I really like MAC is he says what everyone thinks, but never says. A lot of these guys don't looks like D1 players. -
What does it mean to demand more as a fan? Box seats? season tickets? Mean Green club? Those things are the basics of supporting a program. The people who moan about how long it's been since we were a bowl team, seem to forget about the 40+ year bowl drought before 2001 New Orleans Bowl. A Perennial bowl contender, with a massive endowment, statewide following, and traditional rivalries. This season sucked because it reminded us of who we are, a directional state school that is in year two of a complete rebuilding process from coach to team to facilities to sports culture.
-
Hthere is one area of improvement. Last season we played to our standing, we beat the teams we placed ahead of, we list to the teams in front of us. This season we at least beat one team (Lala) who placed in front of us and beat the teams we placed ahead of. The Troy win would have only moved us up one slot in the standings.
-
Dodge was stagnation, he was a recession. Now we have to pay the price with 3-4 years of coach'em up to get back to having a shot at conference games. It sucks, but it's true. The good thing is we are moving into a weaker CUSA with more bowl options. So while Tulsa might own the West for the first few seasons there is no reason to believe we can't play the number two role and still go bowling. UTSA, UTEP, Tulane, Rice. Let's not act like those games are impossible.

The quality of your QB influences your play calling...
shaft replied to BIG DAWG's topic in Mean Green Football
Hush. We will not tolerate these logical statements during our week of overreacting. -
We weren't better tan anybody under Dodge, that's why we fired him.
-
Emmitt is over simplifying it. DD got fired because he didn't get along with his boss, his boss's boss, the general booster crowd, didn't evovle his recruiting and play calling and kept bad assistants. Dodge got fired because he hired bad assistants, an ran a system he couldn't get the D1 recruits for, and the went the JUCOs route to try to save his job. The problem isn't have money to buyout coaches. The problem isn't having the money to avoid early season payday games.

3-5 in the SBC = 3-5 in CUSA. The Sun Belt has more bowl teams than CUSA this seaon and more OOC wins. What's the difference between 11 and 12? ULM had their best season ever. We lost Dunbar to the DALLAS COWBOYS! The teams that were better than us last season, were better than us this season.
-
The conference is better. This is the SBC's best season ever.
-
Mac didn't throw the pick 6. If you're off the Mean Green band wagon why don't you get off the board.

That was a crappy way to end the season, but a more competitive game than what I expected. I'm glad this season is over. I didn't have high expectations for the year, but I thought we win one of the three games against ULM, WKY, or MTSU.
