  1. When your sample size includes yourself its a statistical fallacy.
  2. SMU looked good in their bowl, but who is going to be there in 2014? Hunt - No. Gilbert - No. June Jones - Probably not.
  3. 1. You have too much time on your hands. 2. Seeing Tulane surrounded by 5 schools from other conferences makes you wonder what they were thinking.
  4. I've never been a fan of judging one's "fanness." I think a bad fan is one who can't admit the wheels are off, or one who thinks the wheels fall off after the first loss every season. The truth is our program is still in the rebuilding phase, but I like the things we are hearing from the coaching staff. Sure everyone would like to see more on the field production & Ws, but I think it takes the off the field improvements to get the on the field improvements. I like the empathsis on size and strength training. I always thought it was a cop out from Dickey & Dodge to act like those things were overrated and never address those issues. I like that MAC comes out and says our guys are small and don't look like FBS players. I like that MAC and crew grade each play when they are breakig down film instead of just saying things like thiers room for improvement on every play. I also like the way MAC reaches out to the entire student body and addresses the issue our our school's sports culture. What I don't like is all the talks about nuts on this thread.
  5. This board is a daily airing of the grievances.
  6. The problem is the Big East tv deal is going to be worth more than the MWC tv deal. The real question fro Boise is what value do they place on keeping their other sports in the same conference and giving their fans games they care about. Boise is going to have the same access to the playoffs/BCS no matter what conference they are in so it's a matter of do they take the Big East money over a regional home. If I'm the Broncos I'd stay in the Mountain West. But neither conference should gave an give them their home tv rights. Waive entry fees, pay exit fees. But the Big 12 has shown us what happens with unequal tv rights deals.
  7. Yeah, but don't they lose most of both the O & D lines. Ohio should have been the star of MAC this year and fell apart at the end of the season. Hoepfully their QB is good enough to not come back for his senior year.
  8. Was there a such a shortage of nonsense ideas on this board that we needed to post links to make believe on other boards?
  9. I would love to see the job descriptions for the new shop. Wanted: Well connected big wigs to fly around and watch college football games. The job requires no real math skills because a computer evaluates the teams. Salary: 400,000 plus all expenses.
  10. Last year at this time I thought we'd go 5-7 with a shot at 6-6. The extra wins coming from Monroe and MTSU. Then early this season I drank the cool aide and thought we'd go 6-6 and all 6 win teams would go bowling.
  11. It's not unreasonable to think the new, new Big East might go after Tulsa. They Big East needs 1 more western team, they wpuld want BYU, but may not get them. Tulsa is a central time zone team and would fit the bill. Plus strong private school ties with SMU and Tulane. New, new big east East: UConn, Temple, Navy, Cincy, USF, UCF West: SDSu, BSU, Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Memphis
  12. Since we're playing make believe let's have a rivalry with Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Yankies. All those teams have great followings and would to give up millions they make off home games to sign home & homes with UNT. We all agree regional rivalries are the way to build the program. The great thing about CUSA West is it gives us those regional rivals. The school can now use it's OOC schedule for less payday games and more winnable games.
  13. That's the conflicting point. The MAC took a low pay, high coverage tv deal and elevated it's national profile but never produced a break out team. And this year out of nowhere with an average mid-major deal the MAC has it's first breakout team.
  14. So the $60 million dollar question isn't is the new Big East worth $60 million dollars, but is the shares from the new Big East deal worth more than a beefed upped MWC and CUSA deal split more ways. I would love to see the Big East fold. FSU and Miami to the Big 12. UConn and Cincy to the ACC BSU and SDSU to the MWC Everyone else to mega CUSA. On the sub-thread about audience size. The MAC definitely seemed more prestigious when they were on ESPN very Thursday, but it never translated into better attendance and teams evolving into dominant programs.
  15. As much as I want the Big East to die this is probably going to happen. Big East: WEST Boise St. San Diego St. SMU Houston Tulane Memphis BYU EAST UConn Temple Navy Cincinnati East Carolina Central Florida South Florida
  16. It looks there are two things that could kill the Big East: 1. Will the ACC or Big 12 take any more teams? We all know the Big 12 is hoping for Florida St and a friend, but now might be the time to make a play for Boise or Cincy. The ACC could also take UConn and USF. 2. Will the new Big East tv deal be better for Boise than what they get with the MWC? The depleted Big East tv deal is probably going to be worth more than the MWC deal, but will it be bottom line a better deal given increased travel expense and spliting up Olympic sports. If either of these things happen, SDSU will go to the MWC, everyone else will go CUSA. T
  17. I bet in the conference by-laws there are ways to kick schools out. There is probably a process like the Big East followed to kick out Temple. Majority type vote to put a school on notice/action plan. Super majority to actually kick them out. As much as people are knee jerking and saying throw the newest guys out, remember by CUSA taking swift action on replacement it boxed the other conferences in.
  18. Don't forget the fanbase was clamoring for Dodge. The fanboy posts on this board were embarassing with their love of a unproven high school coach, how all the rich Southlake dads were going to back UNT, how every recruit in Texas already knew his name. It was an easy move for RV, give the people what they want.
  19. No, we beat them last year.
  20. People keep saying the Big East will take more from CUSA, but who would they take. The Big East needs big market teams that can deliver their market to add value to the tv deal. I'm not sure there are any teams left on the expansion list that meet both of those criteria. I hope the ACC delivers the death blow to the Big East and takes UConn and CIncy. That should be enough to send Boise & SDSU back to the MWC. Everyone left in the Big East would come home to CUSA 3 ring circus. CUSA West: UTEP, Tulsa, UNT, SMU, UTSA, Houston, Rice, LA Tech, CUSA South: Tulane, S Miss, UAB, FIU, FAU, USF, UCF, +1(GA St) CUSA East: MTSU, Memphis, , Temple, Marshal, ODU, UNC-C, ECU, +1(WKY, or MAC team) 7 Divisional games, 2 non-divional games, 3 OOCs. Semifinal conference championship tournament with divisional champs and a wild card.
  21. My guess is the MWC doesn't want to expand, but it lining up contingency plans if any more realignment takes place. They are still holding their breath that the Big East won't work out and they get another shot at schools like Boise, SDSU, and BYU. UTEP is the next logical applicant. NMSU and Idaho will always be available, but if they wanted those schools they would be in by now. The folks on this board who scream about UNT needed to head West have no idea what they are talking about. The Big West was a complete failure for us and there is no reason the MWC would be any different. Higher travel cost, no return fan travel, unlevel recruiting, and time zone changes. No thank you. The small uptick in cash and prestige wouldn't be enough to overcome the forementioned obstacles. A small regional footprint, with games against schools 18 year-olds have heard of is the way to build our fanbase and build our program.
  22. What's with the Liberty bowl excuse? Why did teams with no conference affiliation to the bowl have all there eggs in that basket?
  23. It should be capped at 128 with a 64 team playoff. But Western Kentucky shouldn't be in CUSA, the MAC maybe, but not CUSA.
  24. This thread is dumb even by Plumm's logic. LA Tech's coach gets snatched up by an AQ, so that means their doing the right things. UNT's basketball coaches get snatched up by even bigger AQ schools and that bad.
