Makes sense. LA Tech & Marshall have the most name recognition of the new CUSA. Nothing a few winning seasons can't overcome.

North Texas "updates" Non-Con through 2025
shaft replied to 10Eagle10's topic in Mean Green Football
The safeway series? Please. No one has ever called it that. We didn't call it that when we played 5-6 year ago. Plus is there even a Safeway in DFW? -
Things that boost attendance: 1. Winning 2. A history of winning 3. Game day experience for families 4. Game day experience for students 5. Game day experience for alumni that makes them wish they were students again 6. Beer sales at the game 7. Half time entertainment 8. Give a-ways, t-shirt cannons 9. Free tailgating stuff; BBQ, beer, music 10. Baby oil bounce house

He's already hired an old buick as his offensive coordinator.

North Texas predicted to have 6.05 wins in 2013
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't put a lot of stock in a statisical model that doesn't bother to break out the gang of 5 into seperate conference. They have us as 4 in CUSA West, not sure that gets a bowl next year. -
Southern Miss will make CUSA look worse in '13 - New Unis

It is offically time to shut this board down for 4 months. Other team's uniform talk. Shakes heads. Leaves. -
C-USA could go to 16 members; who could be added?
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I say add'em both and bump CUSA up to 16 for a few reasons. 1. Protects against a future raid from the Big East because they were raided by the ACC because they were raided by the SEC, Big Ten, or Big 12. 2. Push Southern Miss and UAB into the Eastern Division. 3. Tighter geographic fit = decreased travel costs 4. Two divions of 8 means rarely having to go to the East. 5. Hurts the SBC keeps them from having a championship game. -

What should be a realistic goal 5 year goal for North Texas Athletics?
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
In 5 years we should have a football program that should start of the season with the goals of every othe program: 1. Go to a Bowl 2. Win the Conference. 3. Win your bowl game. Atheletic Program Goal: Break even financially. RV Personal Goal: Finish growing out handlebars for the 'stashe. -
I love coach Dan McCarney, but...
shaft replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Stop. I'm one of the biggest DD defenders on this board, but you've got it wrong. DD failed to upgrade his coaching staff and recruiting practices with each SBC championship. Ramon Flanigan and stealth recruiting didn't make sense in 2003 & 2004. DD's inability to capitalize on momentum is a lesson we should learn from. The truth is RV used the SBC championship as momentum for the atheletic village and new stadium. It's the coaching staff job to use momentum for a better product, not the fans or the local media. -
Since so many of our threads end with "the apathy is killing us" I thought I'd ask a different question. What are you doing to promote UNT? Me, I fly the Green Texas flag in front of my house.

Recapping the old/new Big East in terms of North Texas
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't disagree with the points in this post, but why does 1998 matter. I've never understood the "historic" arguments. I don't care what happen in 1929 and I don't think it had any bearing on today's game. I think its fair to measure football in terms of eras and benchmarks. In our case 1995 -1999 our return to D1 & the Big West, and 2000-2012 the Sun Belt years. -
There is nothing depressing about playing in a better conference with a better payout, divisional play, and bigger name opponents. Let's be adults about this. UNT's option was the SBC or the new CUSA. What 10 is saying he'd rather being playing Georgia Southern than Western Kentucky.

The next big thing in realignment is the Maryland ACC buyout. If Maryland can get out of the $20 million exit fees, it is going to be race to get teams like Florida State, Virgina Tech, and Miami. The Big 12 needs two. The Big Ten would take two. The SEC coould take two. I think the 14 team ACC is a buffer against future raids, not an expansion strategy. The ACC doesn't want to be in a must reload situation expecting teams like CIncy and UConn to offset the loss of VA Tech and FSU.

Recapping the old/new Big East in terms of North Texas
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The esay way to look at realaignment is; every team that is moving conferences is moving up. The new CUSA is still better than the SBC or even the new SBC. And yes the new Big East is better than the new CUSA, but not by much. However the new BIg East is not better than the old Big East. And before anyone ask is the new CUSA is better than the old CUSA, I'll say it doesn't matter. UNT didn't get invited to the old CUSA, it got invited to the new CUSA. -
Why are those the only choices? Army? TXST? Anyone from the MAC?
-
My take on CUSA as SBC 2.0 Annual Payout: CUSA > SBC Travel Schedule: CUSA > SBC Divisional Play: CUSA > SBC Bowl Games: CUSA > SBC Reputation: CUSA > SBC
-
I think the Liberty Bowl is safe, but I worry the New Orleans Bowl might go with Tulane. The SBC will likely keep its New Orleans Bowl tie-in with the conference head quarters being in N.O. At the same time the Big East is danager of losing its bowls. The Big 12 is already trying to poach the Russel Atheletic bowl.
-
I think the real take away from this article is that nearly all our conference games are 50-50 games. It was also nice to see something noting Mac's progress and talking about how next year's record may not be the indicator of how much he's accomplished here.

2013 Conference USA Spring Preview - West UTSA QB Eric Soza By Richard Cirminiello CollegeFootballNews.com Posted Mar 6, 2013 Share on twitterShare on facebook| More Sharing ServicesMore Conference USA Spring Preview - West Division. Why to be excited, grouchy and what needs working on. 2013 Pre-Spring Preview C-USA West 2013 Conference USA Spring Preview - 2013 CFN C-USA Spring Preview - East - 2013 CFN Pre-Preseason C-USA East Rankings - 2013 CFN Pre-Preseason C-USA West Rankings - 2013 C-USA Composite Schedule & Weekly Rankings - 2013 C-USA East Schedule Analysis - 2013 C-USA West Schedule Analysis Louisiana Tech Start: March 15, Spring Game: April 13 Why To Get Excited … no one in Conference USA will feature a better pair of backs than the Bulldogs. New head coach Skip Holtz favors balance, which doesn’t figure to be a problem in his first year in Ruston. Tevin King was running wild when he was lost in Week 3 to a season-ending injury. His replacement? True freshman Kenneth Dixon took over and rushed for 1,194 yards and 27 touchdowns. Why To Be Grouchy … Tech was built for 2012, yet didn’t even participate in a bowl game. Galvanizing head coach Sonny Dykes is now at Cal, and many of last season’s top performers have exhausted their eligibility. Most notable is the departure of QB Colby Cameron, who threw 31 touchdown passes and only five picks in his finale. The Number One Thing To Work On Is … shoring up the defense. The Bulldogs won’t have Dykes’ attack—or Cameron—to bail them out this fall. Tech was horrid on D a year ago, yielding a nation’s-high 526 yards per game. While the line has a chance to be sneaky-good, it’ll have to be otherworldly to compensate for the team’s leaky secondary. North Texas Start: March 20, Spring Game: April 13 Why To Get Excited … third-year head coach Dan McCarney has the Mean Green moving in the right direction ever so gradually. No, it’s not always evident in the standings, but North Texas is a better and deeper team than it was before McCarney got to Denton. It’s a long process, but the needle is pointing in the direction. Why To Be Grouchy … the program’s postseason drought has now reached eight years. The Mean Green hasn’t bowled since 2004, leaving the fan base a little tired of moral victories. The program would benefit from the addition of a few more playmakers, especially after scoring more than 24 points just once in 11 games with FBS opponents. The Number One Thing To Work On Is … improving the overall efficiency of the offense. North Texas would move the ball at times last season, but too often stalled at the least opportune moments in a game. The Mean Green was a dismal 103rd nationally in red zone touchdowns, and 116th when attempting to convert on third downs. http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=post§ion=post&do=new_post&f=4

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/9028021/big-east-eyes-america-12-new-conference-name-football-schools-sources-say What a horrible name. Talk about being CUSA 2.0. Bad news it looks like Tulsa is the 12th.

Nothing yet. I'm still thinking its made up. No one wants New Mexico State. They might end up in the Sun Belt because they need a warm body, not because they want them. No market, out of the foot print, bad at football.
