UNT Board increases student fees for athletics
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Increased atheletic fees aren't going to bankrupt the students, but I think its laughable that the folks calling for fee increases don't pay the fees. If student fees go up, ticket prices should go up accordingly. And of course there's the question why does Atheletic program need more money? -
Apparently message board forums and polls don't influence actual decisions. There are no expansion candidates that bring market value, do why split the pie even smaller.

UNT Board increases student fees for athletics
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It's easy to call for fee/tax hikes when you don't have to pay them. With that said how about a $100 fee per hour. -
Acme is a tradition, but Draggos has better charbroiled oysters and so does Felix's across the street from Acme. And are we really debating Tulsa vs. New Orleans for a road trip. New Orleans wins hands down, plus we are going to bead Tulane.

Ranking Every College Teams Fan Base By Loyalty
shaft replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Psst, I wasn't asking a question. I was using an example to disprove your over-simplied statement. Blaming past low turnout, won't improve future turnout. I like what RV & MAC are doing focusing on frosh to build a fan base moving forward. -
Does this even belong on a sports forum? I'm more upset about Denton County Hamburger leaving the square.

Didn't we sell out the Baylor game following that New Orleans bowl? -

Fan base = Attendance x Donations + Merchandise Sales If your a fan you do one of those three things. -
CUSA is now the worse football conference?
shaft replied to letsgiveacheer's topic in Mean Green Football
1. Arkansas State and UL-L do nothing in terms of perception. Their good, but their Sun Belt good. 2. The Florida schools brought geography. CUSA needed East Coast teams to fill out the two divisions. 3. Psst. We're a step back for CUSA. I don't really care about rankings based on last year, since the college football landscape looks dramatically different. CUSA is going to take anohter perception hit after this season, especially if Tulsa & ECU win the divisions. -
What would you do with "Fly Like an Eagle"?
shaft replied to UNT 90 Grad's topic in Mean Green Football
Wait, you think people actually listen to what the band is doing durring the game? The band is background noise and could be replaced with a PA like every pro-team has done. Sure they can do the half time show, but no one really cares about the band. -
If he's not transering here or to one of our opponents why do we care?

CUSA is now the worse football conference?
shaft replied to letsgiveacheer's topic in Mean Green Football
2012 CUSA was pretty bad. Southern Miss tanking + OOC records + defections really hurt the conference. 2013 CUSA will be a lot better (and it doesn't hinge on UNT). CUSA has never had a "breakout team." No Boise, Utah, Hawaii, Marshall, Fresno. CUSA's best team was Tommy Bowden's Tulane team that was snubbed by the BCS, followed by Sumlin's Houston team that choked against S Miss in the conference finals. What CUSA really needs is a break out team, but that's not in the cards for 2013. Maybe LA Tech can do it, but I just don't see it without a bowl last year. Instead the new CUSA will get a year to gel before adding its next teir of members. -
Coach Mac Called as "Mediator" in OSU/QB Divorce
shaft replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Simple answer the NCAA should require conferences to publish their transfer rules. 1. No in conference transfer. 2. No OOC opponents on the teams schedule for the next 4-5 seasons. -
UNT and local universities in line for big improvements
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I was on campus today and the thing that struck me was not only all the new buildings & renovations in the last 5 years, but all new private sector developments near campus. Everything from the rebuild Fry Street area to the new 5-story mixed use apartments on Eagle. Its nice to see the private sector matching the University's contribution towards building a better Denton. The conference center hotel will be be step in the right direction. -
Military Bowl strikes deal with C-USA Updated: May 20, 2013, 2:44
shaft replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
So what are CUSA's seven bowls? 1. Liberity 2. Hawaii 3. Heart of Dallas 4. New Orleans 5. Armed Forces 6. Tampa 7. Military -
So who was the 8th bowl? We know the Military Bowl is the 7th.
-
QB isn't our biggest need. It's Defensive Line, Receiving corp, punt returns, and QB play...in that order. And maybe uniforms, a lot of you are very concerned about uniforms & logos.
-
What are the 8 bowls? I'm guessing 6 tie-ins & 2 contingency.
-
Idaho & Tulane. We've got to win the season opener and the conference opener.

La Tech vs UL-L in the New Orleans Bowls? Not going to happen. Maybe we get in because Tech won't play their in state budies, in state. -

Some questions for those pro-fans who travel
shaft replied to Christopher Walker's topic in Mean Green Football
New Orleans: If your traveling solo, fly. Cheap shuttle from the airport to Quarter/Canal street hotels (use a cab for the return trip). You can walk or pedicab it the rest of time, including to the Super Dome for the game. Use the street car to go to the Garden District/Tulane campus. Parking a car is going to cost you $25 a day.
