  2. From College Football News.Com http://collegefootballnews.com/2016/college-football-playoff-bowl-projections-10-apr Thursday, December 29, 2016 Birmingham Bowl Legion Field, Birmingham, AL, 2:00 ET, ESPN American Athletic vs. SEC *North Texas vs. Vanderbilt *North Texas to get in on APR, No AAC team projected available
  3. I thought conference & uniform talk was reserved for off-season only
  4. The State Fair site was going to keep the Cotton Bowl entrance and demolish the historic stock yards. Which is another reason I think JJ was against it, we wanted to get away from name "cotton bowl". The downtown site was going to require moving a major power sub-station. I saw Steven Jones speak last week at commercial real estate event, where he basically said the family finally felt like the got it right with the Star in Frisco because of all the surrounding development possibilities (read land the Cowboys own a piece of). The Fair Park location did have enough upside for side projects (hotels, shopping, etc.) that the Cowboys would own a piece of.
  5. As someone who wrote his graduate thesis on Dallas Cowboy's Stadium Decision and as some someone who worked in the Dallas City Manager's Office I have bit to add to the Laura Miller sub-thread. Jerry Jones and the Cowboys wanted a downtown stadium, the City of Dallas wanted the Fair Park location. The City of Dallas loses money on Fair Park every year (at the time it was between $500k-$1 million), but there was more revenue opportunities at the downtown site, the Los Colinas site, and ultimately the Arlington site.
  6. The State Fair would be a great venue for the annual LA Tech game.
  7. You know y'all suck right? Of course Mac his going to talk about his Iowa State days in an Iowa interview. The whoa-as-me, revision history that this board bellows daily is stale and unproductive. Dickey - failed because he didn't upgrade his coaches, offense strategy, and recruiting at the right time, and he didn't play well with boosters. Dodge - failed the day we walked in the door and brought a nearly all high school staff with him. Mac - failed because of poor quarterback play, and trying to recruit Louisiana. I respect Mac for firing the recruiter who wasted that recruiting season, but there simply wasn't enough depth to sustain a loss season. I fear history may repeat it self.
  8. The NCAA voted to allow the a Big 12 to have a championship game to prevent anymore conference realignment. The Big 12 wanted FSU and Clemson, but can't them.
  9. Texas Pick Up: free beer when they lost their liquor license. Dusty's: Power Hour $1 shots. Fry Street: Corporate 40 free drinks on the street. Denton is still the overall cheapest place to drink in the metroplex.
  10. Coach who looks most like the guy from "Friday Night Lights"
  11. Because that's what head coaches do now. Being a head coach is part mascot, part development director. Because its going to take 2-3 seasons to rebuild and they have to be able to sell the program to recruits and boosters, before the winning speaks for itself.
  12. Mac focused on building a culture, it wasn't enough. Recruiting & QB play.
  13. 18 months is enough to grade RV on the next hire, and his ability to put a recruiting class together. I also want to see how RV fund raises around the new coach.
  14. I'm going to be in Houston the weekend of the Houston Stock Show & Rodeo Cookoff. Anybody have the hook up on some tent wristbands?
  15. All low spots are the same. There's nothing for the fan base to be excited about. The cupboard is bare. The guy in charge of developing talent didn't get the job done. The difference at least this time the facilities are in place, but the team is a complete rebuild. Let's look at some of these lows Simon - team wasn't ready for D1 (Couldn't manage the team) Dickey - Pissed off the alumni, biggest donor was mad a the school for firing. (I think he should have been given the rest of season, RV gave the fans what they wanted with Dodge) Dodge - Couldn't run a D1 staff. (It was a horrible hire. He wasn't ready and brought in a horrible staff) Mac - Lost the recruiting battles, and went with a horrible QB. (I think we should have announced he won't be back, but let him finish out the season for economic reasons) I believe in giving RV 18 months. Where is this team on recruiting day after 1 year of the new coach.
  16. So basically, no update.
  17. I was almost going to like this post, then it got weird and dark. The stipends are not to help the "poor" student athlete, they are just the newest recruiting tool to keep pace with the rest of college football, and a tool to beat back future lawsuits over licensing rights.
  18. I'm not wild about stipends, but that's the way college football is headed. Giving players more money to get off campus and away from the athletic dorms is going to result in player conduct issues nation wide.
  19. Are we playing Baylor this season? Because that's the only sell out I remember.
  20. Revisionist history. R Dodge was a legacy recruit for MAc Brown who wanted him for a wide receiver. Really accurate in drills, too small in reality. benefited from playing his whole life in his dad's system. He also quit on his school and team, so F that guy. And to the articles point, yes recruiting is different today than in 1980.
  21. Anyone notice the malcontents (90/Ben) just shift their argument everytime they are called on their BS. It's the schedule, it's RV, it's RV contract, it's other posters problem for not sharing my rage, it's the small donor list, it's the fact that they don't personallly call me, it's Mac's contract, it's RV handlng of Mac. Stop. Just stop. We are a mid-major program. We play payday games to cover the cost of program. We play fcs games to pad the record. P5 programs don't like to go on the road. That's the reality of modern college football. All mid-majors face the same chicken and egg delimia of we need more support to grow the program, we need to grow the program to get more support. Fortunately the new ranking committee might be able to start nudging the top of the college football world in a new direction that may just trickle down. If the P5 schools stop scheduling fcs games it creates more opportunity for some 2 for 1's with mid-majors.
  22. Pretty unrealistic expectaions across the board. Your asking for a winning record every season. No mid-major coaching staff can do that. If they did they would be picked up a P5 school.
  23. The Big 12 wants teams from the ACC, the Big 12 can have any mid major it wants at any time.
  24. I think this thread did a good job of exposing our problem as a message board; at certain point we are all emotional buyers hoping for things to change so there are more entertainment buyers, which in turn validates our early emotional buy in. My emotional buy-in is tempered by the realities of modern college football and the history of this specific program. Get to a bowl 1 out of every 3 seasons. That sets up getting to a bowl 3 out of every 5 seasons and competing for conference championship on a regular basis.
