MGB: Five quick thoughts on UNT's loss to WKU
Got5onIt replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
UNT should make another change next week by having Cosh moved to Sr. equipment manager for the rest of the year. -
There's zero pass rush and the LBers are nonexistent. Doesn't help an already under performing secondary.
-
I saw several plays where the DB's were hesitant to make contact and hit the ballcarrier. If you don't want to hit somebody, you need to get off the field. The DL got manhandled by WKU's OL. The LB corp is worse than last year and the worst unit on defense. They just flat out lack speed & quickness.
-
He looks like a legit FBS QB. He's forcing things still, IMO. Needs to settle down and get adjusted to the speed of the game. I really like his potential. WKU is a really good team. I haven't a doubt he shoulda started since week one.
-
Why would NT deny a recruit based on location? You sound like Mac and his 6'4" QB requirement. You want recruits to be excited about UNT? Well, you have to win first. Texas is over filled with 11 FBS programs, not to mention OU, LA, & AR knocking on our door. NT should fill with JUCO prospects, win now, and recruit nationally as well as locally.

Will you be attending the WKU game?

I have to take my son to football practice tonight, but plan to come at halftime. I'm hoping the score is close so I won't have an excuse to take him home "early" on a school night. -
Ha!!! Great news!!!
-
He is and has a winning program. Liberty wants to go FBS and is hoping for a sunbelt invite, supposedly.
-
This is the path we need to go down. Someone who's built a program. UNT doesn't need DFW's version of Coach Bro.
-
Todd Dodge Shanice Stephens Tony Benford Dan McCarney Mike Peterson I just don't see how RV can go another year with the record his coaching hires have posted the last decade at UNT. I like RV and what he's accomplished while here, but he just has to be fired. Accountability must be enforced by Smatresk. :(

A look at 6 potential candidates for UNT's vacancy
Got5onIt replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
No way the game's passed him by. He's had coaching success at SDSU in 2010. These guys failed at P5 programs but did well at G5 or less. NT has different expectations for athletics being a G5 program. Match made in heaven? :) -

Michigan is a big time program with different expectations. He's proven he can win at 2 G5 programs. What has Applewhite & Lil' Briles done other than ride coattails? -
Harlon Barnett - DC Michigan St. Brady Hoke - Former head coach Ball St., San Diego St., & Michigan

You would pick Briles/Applewhite over Brady Hoke? If I were the AD, this is a no brainer if I had these 2 resumes in front of me... -

NT should contact: Harlon Barnett the DC out of Michigan State. Lots of success there. Brady Hoke has had success at two G5 programs - San Diego St. & Ball St. Give him a call. -

I suspect these are the same people that loved Todd Dodge and aren't exposed to a lot of college football outside of Texas. Thus, the reason why Applewhite's nutsack is fought over around these parts. Give me experience over a potential Coach Bro. There are "young" established coaches around the nation. Let's look at them first, please. Good recruiters can recruit anywhere they land. -

Love the tracker. I see my #1 guy Turner Gill leading the pack. -

Cristobal getting some pub, eh? He's my #1 on that list. -
That would be like hiring Todd Dodge all over again. This guy was handed a historically good program.

Hopefully, this was put together by Smatresk and the higher ups while RV was grubbing down on some Jimmy Johns in his office. Here's how I picture RV enjoying his JJ's all the while thinking he's avoided the axe.... -
OK first list was too young -- how about these?
Got5onIt replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Someone who had success but couldn't keep it going. They've proven they can do it and hopefully will learn form those mistakes. It didn't work out well with McCarney but he's an old school guy dug heavily into his ways. It's a crapshoot but a better way to go, IMO than to someone who's done nothing but constantly in Texan's wet dreams like Major Applewhite. -
Official WKU Game Score Prediction Thread
Got5onIt replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
WKU - 60 UNT - 45 Offensive showcase. Zero defense. NT will come up short but look like a different team that gives a damn this time. No McNulty sighting in this WKU loss only means GMG lost the battle, but did indeed win the war. -
I agree with you 100%. Winning consistently solves most of our recruiting issues. Yes, we need to recruit Texas but Texas high school ties don't do dick for a perennial door mat such as UNT. My point was that a good recruiter can recruit anywhere.
