I like Chico, but I think he would have to get a surprise win in the next few weeks to even garner consideration. Also, if they do hire a new coach, he needs to go. I will say that there is something to be said about a guy that really wants to be here. He knows the culture, knows where the fans/donors opinions sit, and really wants to be the HC here. If Smatty wants to take a risk on Baby Briles or Minor Appleseed, he should strongly consider Canales.

His completion percentage went up to 50% this week and he had no picks. I don't think we'll ever see a 60%+ passer but if he can get in the high 50's and add 75+ rushing yards a game, the offense will be competitive. For fumbles he needs to tuck the ball and not try to do too much. He's got a lot of heart, but live to play one more down. You've got a good RB that can get the tough yards.

I don't know about Rice but I'm confident SMU would've been a win.

LOL. I know most topics end up with RV's ass in a guillotine, but I'm honestly curious as to what Temple did to turn around their football program. I know they landed in a conference quite easily due to their solid basketball history.

Just a few years ago Temple was so bad they got kicked out of their conference. I wonder what spearheaded the turn around?

Interesting that Smatresk wouldn't give a public vote of confidence. Maybe it is strictly financial that Neil won't can RV. Smatresk might be the one who actually is doing the hiring. RV gets to save face and ride into the sunset when his contract ends.

Race shouldn't matter but their is a disparity between white head coaches versus minority head coaches in the FBS. Considering the amount of minority players that have played the game and are in the game now it makes you wonder when will it ever change? Think of all the programs in CUSA, how many head coaches are white? 100% of them before Mac got the axe. Canales would be the only minority and probably will not be a head coach at the FBS level next year. He'll also more than likely be replaced by a white person.

UTSA will bring a lot of blitzes. That's what Marshall & WKU did to our green QB. I'm hoping Chico adjusts to this and ditches the empty backfields. More runs for Wilson & playaction!!

Harry has a great list there. No reason why a coach can't consistently win here. The tools are in place.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say NT gets its 1st win Saturday. Might be the only win, but it will be a win. UTSA has a worse QB situation and DSmith is getting into his 3rd game.

NT is what it is. We need to look at this thing like the service academies do. Granted, they have a certain appeal to recruits since they are military academies. However, i believe NT can compete for similar players. Bring in a similar system and look at consistently winning 6 games every year with an occasional 9-10 win season. I'd take that in a heartbeat over the last decade of crap we've been exposed too.....

How about just making it real simple: "This man has lead UNT athletics for the last 15 years" "FireRV.com" Then under the 2 captions have that pic posted here that shows RV with his hands out. The entire metroplex associates UNT athletics with major suckage. They'll understand when they see the billboard.

I saw Mac last Thursday morning at Anytime Fitness off Swisher Rd. He was wearing a North Texas hat and when I walked by him he immediately asked me how was I doing this morning. I wasn't wearing any NT gear, either. He's just a genuinely nice guy. Too bad it didn't work out.....
