Some of you guys clearly underestimate offseason football. It's NOT about bulking up like this is a Mr Universe contest. The muscle comes with proper weight training, targeting areas of need like the legs, hips, & shoulders. Agility drills work in combination with the weight training and increase explosiveness, stamina, durability plus take USE of the added muscle. Mason Fine will be an exponentially better QB, physically, with one offseason under his belt than he is right now. There is zero doubt about this.
-
But this is at a level where 16-18 year olds play and on any given Friday night you might have 1 kid worthy of a FBS scholarship.
-
Fine came in for mop up duty. He looked good, no doubt. Morris showed flashes, enough to keep the starting job, IMO. It's more than just academic classification, Morris went through 5 off seasons at this level and is the lesser of the 2 evils. SL doesn't sound like a coach who'd sit the best player for any reason. If Fine was that much better, he'd be the starter. Talent wise, if they're equal (and that's a big if) you have to give the nod to the 5th year Sr in this situation. McCarney's philosophy was based onwho could hand off the ball the best. Morris & Fine are infinitely better than what we've seen during Dan's era (excluding bowl year DT).

Morris is a 5th year senior and has been around big time college football for a long time. The speed of the game is more than enough to get to a true freshman. The jump from high school football to college football is unparalleled. This isn't the NFL. Speed, strength, and scheme are completely different animals for 99.9% of 18 year olds entering this level of football. Morris has shown he's got some ability but does have his issues. There's no need to get Fine killed right now with all the holes on both sides of the ball....

Pass that shit, my friend! I want a hit! -
The fragile fan base and recruiting base needs to see some wins. As good as Fine might be down the road, Morris gives this team the best chance to win right now. I do think we'll see Morris improve the next few weeks. When this team hits the 7 loss mark and is out of bowl contention, Fine should probably be handed the keys.

SMU womens golf coach (Jeanne Sutherland) talking smack
Got5onIt replied to shootermcgavin44's topic in Mean Green Football
NT stadium staff were completely unprepared for the large crowd. It was hell getting in. SMUrf DooDoo golf coach can still take her pitching wedge and stick it where the sun don't shine..... -
I thought he caught a cramp while running on that extended play....

Lack of explosiveness will make for a long year for UNT
Got5onIt replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed. Morris has to get better for this team to win. Holding the ball too long and overthrowing receivers countless times won't cut it. Yes, I know he's getting blitzed but he's got to make those plays. When you're running 4 & 5 WR sets and the defense blitz, someone is getting back there. Now, I did see him make some great throws while getting hit, so he's proven he can do it. Let's chalk up it up to rust and a new system for week 1. If we continue to see this going into week 3, I say you throw Fine in there and never look back..... -
It's not a major factor but field view can be an issue. Fine can't be pushing more than 5'10".
-
OLine played well, IMO. SMU blitzed on several plays, sending more than NT could block. Morris held onto the ball way too long on many occasions (not just blitzes). LBers struggled again tonight, agreed there.... Coaching tonight: D+

Disappointing, but I did predict 3-9 for the year. NT had a small window of opportunity but that went down the toilet after a couple of 3 & outs. I fully expect to see Fine this year. Morris is clearly a stop gap.
