Wow, you guys are bold. I hope NT doesn't recruit a running back with the last name Dodge, or a WR with the last name Dodge, hell even a kicker with the last name Dodge. We'll mark them the best ever RB, WR, or Kicker before they even step foot onto a NCAA div 1 football field. We all know the Head Coach, who's name is surprisingly Dodge , is already the 2nd coming of Jesus. I think I may have to trade in my Cadillac CTS-V for a Dodge Charger, or better yet, my wifes Trailblazer SS for a Dodge Durango!! Let's force all dealers in Denton to start selling Dodge's only, we won't even allow their parent companies to sell Chrysler's or Jeeps!!!!!!!!! Let's force Wal-Mart off loop 288 to change it's name to Dodge Mart!!! It will be the best store ever!!!!!! My neighborhood can change it's name from Ryan Ranch to Dodge's Ranch!! I've got Dodge tattooed on my forehead, can't you tell I'm a certified genius now????!!!!! The world is so much better already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On a serious note, I am very excited about a player of Riley's caliber coming to NT. But I'll reserve judgment on his impact & playing ability at the D1 level after he plays a down or two.

The defensive staff seems to think Evan Roman is the best CB on the team.
-
Agree with you. If Vizza isn't starting by mid-season, he'll have to beat out Maydayger & Mini-Dodge next year. I would not be surprised to see him transfer out. As much as we all "refuse" to acknowledge it, Riley has the upperhand on any QB's next year. Not just from "nepotism", but from his exposure & "mastery" of the Dodge offense.
-
He's not the blocker Dodge is looking for. You guys are still living on the RB's importance that was drilled into all of our heads during DD's tenure . North Texas RB's have gone the way of TT, NM St., & Hawaii...
-
Thanks for proving the point Illuvius already made in his topic. He was right on the money, Jmo should've touched the ball 25 times with those kind of numbers. Over 10ypc and he doesn't get 20 touches??
-
Two words for you: Todd Dodge. It's pass 1st, pass 2nd, pass 3rd, pass 4th. Run every now and then and try to catch the D off guard, hoping for a homerun ball. I'll give it to Dodge, it worked once last night. Everyone claims Dodge will take what the defense gives him, including the running game, but if it was an important part of the gameplan he would've done everything in his power to get Cam Montgomery more reps the last 2 games. Bottom line, the running game means very little in this system and the tailback's first priority is to protect the QB.

I absolutely agree with you. I'm in the camp who believes in a good running game. One that can eat up clock, but more importantly, wear out opposing defenses. Now don't confuse me with one who loves the old school Cornhuskers or DD offensive mindset. The game has evolved too much since then to flat out "power" over your opponent. As for OU, they do run a lot more Pro style stuff than they did in the past. I'm betting that has everything to do with the increase in quality recruits the last 5 years. When Stoops first arrived, OU almost exclusively ran the Spread Option. Hell, they won a national title with it. They key here though is that they do incorporate a running game.

I honestly don't think Meager has the arm to go long. His passes always seem to flutter. You could see the difference last year when Woody played or even Phillips. One thing I've really noticed this year, now that NT throws 60 times a game , is his horrendous throwing motion. It reminds me a lot of Bernie Kosar.

In the scheme of things, spread offenses are stat hogs and should be looked at from a different perspective. If you look at the top teams in in NCAA Div 1, you'll notice that they all have decent defenses and a running game. Do they all run pro style offenses with I -Forms & fullbacks? Absolutely not. But they do have an effective running game that they can lean back on. Just look at the difference in the spread and runningback recruits at Tech vs OU. OU's spread option & Tech's true spread use 2 diferent types of TB's.
-
I agree with you Greek to a point. The problems still reside on the defensive side of the ball and my feelings about the gameplanning & in-game coaching for the defense ar well documented here. However, I feel this team has shown it is good enough offensively to overcome poor defensive management when facing teams with similar talent levels. Meager's play hindered the offense, IMO. NT should've won this game.
-
Micah is every bit of a fullback. He's a hard nosed runner and a good blocker. He just lacks the quickness and explosive first step, the "home run hitter", a spread offense needs. You can see the difference when Jmo or Cam enter the game. Now I do agree with you that NT is lacking that shifty single back, but it is NOT a run first type and will never thrive with a 2 back power/speed combo.

FAU - 52 NT - 34 Lots of offense.

Why I Feel Good About The Season From Here Forward
Got5onIt replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm just estimating here, but I'm thinking Dodge probably where's a size 11 shoe. Someone on the defensive staff may have learned a size 11 shoes doesn't feel good in the a$$. -
The only game I expect NT to be favored in is vs WKU. I don't expect many more than that.
-
I have feeling they'll accumulate more than that against NT's Sooner like Man-on-Man defensive strategy.
-
Well, Weiss is cut from the Bellicheat mold and thinks he's smarter than any other coach in the NCAA. Looks like Willingham didn't do too bad AND can be credited for recruiting Lady Quinn.
-
The writers mother must be a professor or something. I heard UT pays their top ranking Professor $500,000 a year and at teh beginning of each year the top rated professor can change. Does UNT do anything similar?
-
LOL!!! I agree with you. Patterson is the head coach and has final say. If he didn't like it then he should've trumped the call. He should get ALL the blame for the loss, IMO.
-
Disparity between seasons is not that great, IMO. 2 minutes can break down to what. 30 seconds a qtr? Anyway, my point is that defense is not like offense. The gameplan for the defense relies heavily on the opponent. This is true for your offensive gameplan, but it's still not on the level defensive strategy is. Yes, there are differing base defenses, but it doesn't change considerably from team to team. This is why I heavily question our preparedness and in-game adjustments on the defensive side of the ball. However, I will say this, defense does rely heavily on talent when compared to the other side of the ball. There are no such things as "systems" players on defense...
-
Has everyone forgotten the offense from last year?? It was 3 & out 90% of the time. Defense was on the field most of those games it seemed. It would be interesting to see the average offensive time of possessions per game for NT & their opponents from 2006.
-
Best comparison ever on this board. I'm beginning to hate Cover 1 as much as the draw.
-
Why not gameplan to use your best offensive weapon? If Dodge is the 2nd coming of Jesus that so many on this board claim, how can NOT find a way to tweak the O to fit Jmo????? I mean seriously, did Reggie Bush block at USC?????? Did Tech's Ricky Williams block 90% of the time???

Dodge: U N T Will Look At Cornerback Rotation
Got5onIt replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, when you're not gtting pressure in Cover 1, send one of the 3 LBers you've got floating around the LOS. That should help, right? Better than having them cover a slot receiver. -
Dodge: U N T Will Look At Cornerback Rotation

It's about GD time they start looking at Green. Hair is being eaten alive on his side. I don't blame him fully, because I still think the D-Coordinator is the root cause of our issue, but Hair certainly isn't keeping the "spotlight" off himself.
