Don't froget Dickey had one of teh best defenses ever assembled at NT. Hellacious defensive unit & an All-Conference NFL caliber running back are always a QB's best friends. Hall was solid but he's not even close to the caliber Qb Rosenfels & Wallace were. Smith was good but we never got to see his full potential... I just dont remember NT qb's of the DD era being that productive like you say...

We would definitely need opinions from an ISU expert, but it's a known fact excellent QB play can keep you in many games. Football is the ultimate team sport, unlike basketball, where one player can carry an entire team. Unless you have Mike Vick, you need good players at many positions to be competetive at the college level. I remember those Seneca Wallace teams having good defenses and a solid running game (Ennis Haywood). I would bet all around team talent and coaching improvements we're a big part of it as well. Bottom line, Mac had to recruit Seneca & Sage to ISU, that's a big thumbs up for him, IMO.

My thought is if you're going for a delayed handoff/deep backfield exchange, just go ahead and run off tackle, the stretch play, or pitch sweep. Otherwise, line up under center and run the dive/lead. Of course, we're all criticizing now because 4th down failed.....

Great post. NT has many more lumps to take before they can start giving them out. We just need to have patience and try to relax. We now have an experienced pro in the driver seat and not some pizza faced 16 year old who stole their daddy's keys for a joy ride.

Well, Dunbar is your best player, you ride your best player. What's the best way to win a football game? Running game that can control the clock and a good defense. Also, you have an unproven QB starting his first game and a WR corp that lost it's best player. I don't see a problem in doing what Coach Mac did. This is the gameplan I expect to see the entire year and a gameplan I would be sticking to if I were the HC...

I agree with the OP. This is damn near the same team Teflon Todd had last year. You cant expect it to turn around over night. The kids will get better with the help of this coaching staff as the year progresses. Lets look for that first. With Dodge, every week was a complete ass ramming. Let's let the coaching staff have some time to do their jobs. It will happen....

Don't forget Thompson started his first game. Preliminary reports aren't sounding too promising either. This will probably be a musical quarterbacks year until someone steps up or a bonafide recruit comes in. This was a bad team the last 4 years. You're forced to bring pretty much the same players back from those bad teams. You wont see it change overnight. Hell, it may even get worse before it gets better. Save the knee jerking for mid season. This is only week one, you'll see 360 degrees of changes on this squad until then. If week 1 looks like week 8, then we can all knee jerk....

All of our offseason hopes were pumped up with green koolaid. Deep down, we all knew beating FIU was going to be damn near impossible. Lets just look for improvement week to week and cross our fingers for 4 wins.

Yes, but you're bringing back most of the same guys who posted the previosu years record. The rest of the league gets bigger, srtonger, etc. just like UNT will. It's not like NT is the only team that will "advance" as the year begins...

Wasn't ESPN the reason why the Big12 didn't dissolve??? I thought ESPN would lose too much TV revenue to allow it to split? So if that was the case, why would they want to push for the break up?

I've a made NT team on teambuilder (ps3) with the current helmet and home uniforms for NCAA 12. Since we have yet to see the road set, I had to take an edumacated guess in what they would look like. So why play music then? Or even the fight song? Music can be a great addition to the moment for any player. Hell, how about they take requests before each game if there's no point to it???

Round out the Tank by Mystikal. I just can't see young kids getting hyped to old people music. I agree with a previous poster, let's shoot for something that came out this decade. I want the players to get hyped, not a bunch of middle aged, beer bellied men going bannanas.

I'm pretty sure everyone is going to be wearing the Nike pro combat cooling gear underneath. So we'll be seeing white(home) or green(away) 3/4 to 1/2 sleeves for the on field product as well. It's going to look really good when complete.

I love the new helmet! But to appease the SOW crowd (I do love teh SOW logo, too) why not put a small SOW on the front where the center pad meets the top of the facemask? You know, where it usually shows the brand name of the helmet? Either that or put them on the back of the helmet, right above the lower rear white pad? Not a huge SOW logo, but maybe something 2"x2"? I think it would look cool...
