  1. After years of being Unofficially Embarrassed To Be A Roadrunner, Volkmar is Now Officially Embarrassed To Be A Roadrunner! Or is this is Volkmar just trying to get attention throwing a "I'm taking my ball and going home" tantrum. My guess is that he'll be back on the UTSA message board this week and will be attending every game. Always remember UTSA's mantra..."Where there's smoke.....there could be a poooft cannon."
  2. At least we'll be going to to our fifth bowl game during the seven years we've both been in CUSA. And UTSA, well, I think they may have gone to one bowl some time back during the Obama administration.
  3. Perry would like to dedicate this one to UTSA: For You UTSA
  4. Finally a rivalry where the all-time series is relevant, played by two schools at the same level, and not dominated by one side during the Hoover and Roosevelt administrations. Believe it or not, UTSA was once up three games to one over North Texas before order was restored to the universe. Now the series, tied at three all, should get forever tilted in favor of the Green. They say playing football at UTSA is a lot like playing video games at Pinstack ... You'll get to play indoors and you'll always get to watch other people go bowling.
  5. Colts owner Jim Irsay says Adam Vinatieri's kicking woes are a 'concern' Per the IndyStar: Against the Los Angeles Chargers, Vinatieri was 1-of-3 on field goals and he missed a conversion kick, prompting concern among fans. Going back to the 2018 finale, he has missed a PAT in three straight games. Vinatieri blamed himself for the defeat and later last week defiantly vowed to be prepared for Sunday's game, saying, "You guys are trying to make this into something. Write whatever you want. It’s just, I think every single day every person is playing for their job."
  6. Now tied at 7 with 5:00 to go in 2nd quarter. *** Update *** Houston took two minutes to score again 14 - 7 Coogs QB D'Eriq King is averaging over 7 yards per rush.
  7. Thanks. I never know how well schools can follow legacies, especially this far away. From what I've heard, Ty's son is an excellent student and a very nice young man in addition to being incredibly athletic. Our kids went school together as small children but now attend rival high schools. .
  8. For any of the older Cal fans reading: Tyrone 'Ty' Edwards set the Big Game rushing record of 205 yards in the 1994 victory over Stanford. He and his wife own an insurance company in Flower Mound in Denton County and his son Tyson is a star running back at Flower Mound Marcus High (same school as Stanford's Kaden Smith). Tyson is outstanding but his numbers may never be too gaudy only because his team features primarily a passing attack...And I bet they'd love to hear from Cal.
  9. Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you. Unfortunately, we're going into Berkeley this week looking like a honey covered sandwich.
  10. It was your poster on here that made the claim that only half of the transfers were awarded scholarships by SMU. PONY14 - August 19 "Only 8 of the 16 transfers are on scholarship at SMU." His words, not mine.
  11. I wish these fans would go back and read the message boards from Southern Miss and Eastern Carolina about needing to replace coaches that win consistently but don't always win 'the big game'. Seth is a very good coach, still learning, but a very good coach. He's quickly transformed an awful program into one that is competitive on the field and competitive in recruiting. So we've gone to bowls three years in a row and lost; a heartbreaker to Army featuring our backup quarterback, and lost to both Troy and Utah St, competing against each's best team in history. SMU cheats, and they have always cheated, from getting caught for paying players on their very first squad through today. With the exception of what the smart SMU fans refer to as the" Miracle Season of 2017" coached by Chad Morris, every single winning season that they've had was coached by someone found guilty of recruiting infractions. Think about that, every coach since the NCAA started recording violations. Now we're being told that a plethora of graduate transfers are walking away from full ride scholarships at P5 schools to pay their own way at one of the more expensive schools in the country. SMU may say there's nothing inappropriate happening, but with their consistent lack of integrity they certainly don't have history on their side. As SMU's former athletic director Bob Hitch famously asked "who should you believe, a strung out drug addict like David Stanley, or SMU?" Well Bob, that's an easy one. .
  12. Isn't that what he ran for the Cowboys?
  13. As one dimensional as some of you say he was, we certainly missed Jalen Guyton and his ability to force the other team to respect his 4.28 speed. Teams can now lock down on our receivers without constantly having to worry about the post route.
  14. Troll thread. What else did you expect?
  15. Of course SMU had good teams, they were cheating even before they fielded their very first team : https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/1987/04/19/scandals-arent-new-at-smu/e412cae2-1dbf-4d75-8b58-a5c45f197d64/ SMU has paying recruited athletes $1.75 hr in 1922 ($25.50 hr in 2019 value) at imaginary jobs and in 1923 UT and A&M decided to have the blatantly cheating institution tossed out of the Southwest Conference. The resolution was narrowly defeated (3-3 tie) with new SWC member TCU voting to maintain a local church school. SMU was not caught for cheating again by the SWC until 1928.
  16. People often think that Highland Park Road over by the stadium is named after the city in Dallas County, when in actuality, it's just the opposite. The city in Dallas County was named after the actual Highland Park which is now our athletic village.
  17. "L ... L ... L ... L ... L ... L ... L ... LEARN!"
  18. They are benches with seatbacks.
  19. Here's a tiny part: http://www.ntxe-news.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi?archive=53&num=85890 https://dentoncountyhistoryandculture.wordpress.com/2017/11/17/native-american-heritage-month-denton-countys-original-settlers/ Highland Park, Pilot Knob across I-35W and Hickory Creek which runs between the two all have significant historical significance. Aubrey, six miles northeast of campus, was a large Cherokee settlement.
  20. The far better story is why was this property so special and what made it available to be turned into a park in 1890. The three ponds on the property were fed by natural springs. This high water table was why the Fouts Field stadium could not have the track removed and the stadium dug deeper into a bowl configuration. These were the western most springs in the entire region, on the border of woods to the east and bison laden grasslands to the west, and a coveted source of fresh water for the Wichita Tribe which had a permanent settlement for at least the last several hundred years. By the 1870's barbed wire cut off the bison migration routes, and by the 1880's unregulated water drilling and drought had lowered the water table to the point where the springs often stopped flowing. The Wichita Tribe which had peacefully coexisted with European settlers soon departed for other regions to the north and west. Their land was kept for them surrounded by developers claims, and was eventually turned into Highland Park.
  21. Did you know that Highland Park existed from 1890 until 1933 when the City of Denton sold the property to The University of North Texas (then North Texas State Teacher's College) to build a golf course? Land developers in Dallas renamed their Philadelphia Place community after Denton's popular Highland Park in 1906. (there were some parks in their development, but they were all in lower areas along the Turtle Creek) Denton dismantled the streetcar (trolly) lines from downtown to Highland Park in 1918 to contribute the steel to the war effort. Visitation to the park declined greatly in 1927 with the construction of Lake Dallas southeast of Denton, making Highland Park expendable for the city. The only remnant of the name is Highland Park Drive which ran along the south side of the park. Highland Park has since been converted from a golf course into the Athletic Village at The University of North Texas and tailgating parties and football games take place on the Highland Park hill every football season.
  22. Are you suggesting it's not possible? Me saying that something is not going to happen does not mean that something is not going to happen. (Only my bride can do that)
  23. I am for anything that adds fun to the gameday atmosphere. I wish they would have postgame concerts, especially classic rock groups like the ones that appear at regional festivals; REO Speedwagon, Huey Lewis & News, Gin Bloosoms, Poison, Loverboy etc... That stuff is campy and certainly dated, but still a whole lot of fun.
  24. You should have waited a second for the picture...North Texas scored again on the next play.
  25. SMU has already made a passionate plea for help to the Republican Party. Unfortunately for them it was received with somewhat indifference. Here's a record of the conversation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQLtz_871EE .
