  1. We should all start a campaign for Washington to re-brand their football team as the Washington Mustangs. After all, it's an animal that is not used as a mascot by any pro sports franchise or any major college program. WASHINGTON MUSTANGS
  2. They may not have an option. Not only will visiting teams not want to make that flight, but its becoming more probable that the state of Hawaii will not let them in. This week the state has extended their strict 'two week quarantine' for visitors from the mainland until September, with plans to keep extending the quarantine until the pandemic passes.
  3. Incarnate Word would have their game at Baylor cancelled if the Big 12 plays a 'conference only' schedule. Both North Texas and Incarnate Word have a bye week scheduled for October 24.
  4. Bussey was transferring to Hawaii supposedly for more exposure against high profile teams. That's not gonna happen. Hawaii had nonconference games scheduled against Pac-12 opponents in Arizona (Aug. 29), UCLA (Sept. 5) and Oregon (Sept. 19) for the 2020 season. All three games are now canceled due to the Pac-12 choosing to only play against conference members. Additionally, Fordham has already cancelled their game at Hawaii due to excessive travel dangers. The Bows’ are now set to tentatively open the season at home against Robert Morris of Pennsylvania if Hawaii's partial season still gets played. I don't know how severely Rico burnt his bridges at North Texas and if there is any interest in him returning (from either side), but it is looking more and more like Hawaii will not be playing football this coming season.
  5. You'd probably have better luck by contacting the athletic department and explaining your project than by asking on a fan message board. Then again, most of our athletic department can't figure out our school colors, so they may not be able to help.
  6. It's horrible that all of these colleges are having to cut so many varsity sports. I wish the NCAA would allow Division 1 schools to be Division 1 in the major revenue sports, and non-scholarship Division III in all the non-revenue sports. It would enable the colleges to save huge amounts of scholarship money, and it would enable far more student participation. All our former 'club' sports would have budgets for uniforms and regional travel, and we could then have varsity Div III rugby, baseball, men's soccer, hockey, lacrosse, water skiing, bass fishing , rowing, sand volleyball, fencing, gymnastics, or whatever students want. Sports played could be determined by actual interest of participants and not by budget restrictions and Title IX restrictions. .
  7. "Hefty Sum" may be a bit of a sensationalized inflammatory headline. There are 130 schools in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. According to USA Today, 331 NCAA assistant football coaches made as much or more in 2019 than Bowen is slated to be paid in 2020. 2019 FBS Assistant Football Coach Salaries .
  8. They say Covid 19 is a matter of Life and Death... Football is much more important than that.
  9. CNN reports that the surge along the border is caused by infected people in Mexico entering the United States for treatment. https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/29/health/border-hospitals-coronavirus/index.html
  10. I don't know if Red Potato Skins is really a good choice for a mascot. The University of Denver tried something similar years ago with a stylized Baked Potato and it wasn't very popular.
  11. Should the Redskins change their name? Yes. It's ridiculous that they've kept it for this long.
  12. The University of Texas at San Antonio notified 312 employees Wednesday that their positions were eliminated to help close a $36 million budget shortfall caused by the coronavirus pandemic’s damage to state finances. The losses included one-tenth of the university’s non-tenured faculty, ranging across all academic departments. UT San Antonio lays off more than 300 employees

  14. The school was billed as a 'pre-fab Notre Dame for evangelicals' when it was founded, and they've certainly made major strides. This school will very likely be the location for Trump's presidential library.
  15. ***CAUTION*** Somebody named BFraz is going to scrape this old dead thread out of the bottom of a dumpster in about three years for absolutely no reason. .
  16. I am happy to have our logo associated with the Aussies. That F-35 looks incredible.
  17. It's always nice when we beat out Rick Pitino for a recruit. Rhode Island recruiting thread on Abou
  18. They in no way could afford to rent the Alamodome. They rely on the welfare of the City of San Antonio to provide the cavernous, dank, and poorly ventilated quarter-century old facility free of charge. Per the Alamodome: "Even though the University of Texas at San Antonio plays its home football games in the stadium, it does not pay rent to the city. It only pays only for stadium expenses such as security, staffing, and other operational costs on game days." The city loses because the Alamodome could have hosted convention events on those dates and brought much needed tourism revenue into the city. The abysmal actual attendance at UTSA football games, audited by UT-System as averaging around 15,000 the last several years experienced a significant decrease in 2019 which resulted in the termination of head coach Frank Wilson. An average actual attendance of less than 15,000 for the 2020 season, which already seems highly likely, will have UTSA on probation for violation of NCAA Bylaw 20.9.9.3 and a probation which puts them on a potential path to 1AA football. Things are bad at UTSA, and there's no evidence that they will be getting better any time soon.
  19. Rough times indeed at UTSA. They have now scrapped plans to build their long awaited covered practice facility ( UTSA covered practice field on indefinite hold ) In 2018, UTSA students voted overwhelmingly (67.7%) against funding for athletics that the athletic department stressed were necessary to help make UTSA athletics competitive.(UTSA Athletics Fee vote). Now UTSA is additionally staring down the barrel of drastically reduced conference and NCAA distributions. Athletes are finding it harder to escape the impoverished program. UTSA is withholding from athletes funding for summer school classes to ensure that student athletes don't have the ability to graduate and transfer out before their eligibility expires. Per the university, summer financial aid is “a privilege and not a right.” In other words, summer classes are not provided for the benefit of student athletes, but only to help bolster the school's APR score when deemed necessary. Now UTSA is instituting a policy of not providing anything to student athletes that the university is not specifically contractually obligated to provide.
  20. Back then, people were not stupid enough to declare the blue and gold accents as 'new official colors'. You never saw people, especially university employees, running around in gold or blue Mean Green shirts, and those colors were never more than outlining on athletics uniforms. Now, the identity of the university is severely compromised as gray and black have become the dominant colors for merchandise and uniforms. Yeah, it looks like shit and has nothing to do with Green and White, but it's extremely easy for sportswear companies to get, so therefore laziness prevails. Why go through the effort to produce kelly green spirit wear when nobody really gives a shit at North Texas.
