All UNT Students Will Be Admitted Into SMU Game
ADLER replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
You are correct, Denton county has a small number of positive test cases but is doing exceptionally well. Here is a quote from yesterday's Denton County Public Health: “Denton County appreciates the updated guidance on reopening from Governor Abbott today,” said Denton County Judge Andy Eads. “This guidance will allow many of our local businesses to open to 75% capacity beginning next week" We're not quite at zero new test cases, just no new cases confirmed from symptoms at hospitals, but hopefully we'll get to zero quickly. -

And the National Weather Service still gives us a perfect football weather forecast for the SMU game Saturday Sunny, with a high near 82. East northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Saturday Night Clear, with a low around 57. East northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. -
The ticket sales for Saturday's SMU football game were intentionally set low to allow for student admission to the event. The athletic department does ask that students please get their tickets through the athletics web site, but no current student will be turned away at the gate. Per an athletics administrator "They've already paid for their tickets through their athletics fee, we have estimates of how many will show, and we are going to accommodate them". On another good note, The Denton County COVID-19 Stats Site recorded only one new case in the entire county on September 15 and have not recorded any new cases since then. Denton County has a population of 906,532 according to the recent United States census.

This is probably the answer. Continue issuing the 25 scholarships per year and the squad sizes will even out after 5 years.

I wish Mason had redshirted after playing the first four games last season. He could have then played this season without it counting against his eligibility, and then played again next year for his final senior season. Whew! Think about the NCAA records that could be set.

Then again, maybe the MWC will not play football this season: https://mwwire.com/2020/09/16/mountain-west-has-no-immediate-plans-for-college-football-this-fall/

The MWC is now looking to play football starting in late October. Hawaii will not be playing. Sucks for any player that may have transferred there. https://mwwire.com/2020/09/16/mountain-west-looking-to-play-an-eight-game-schedule-per-report/

Denton County has a population of over 906 thousand, and there was only one new covid case reported yesterday, and only two the day before. https://gis-covid19-dentoncounty.hub.arcgis.com/pages/covid-19cases

This is a very impressive commitment for North Texas. Matthew Stone selected Grant McCasland and the Mean Green over offers from Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Tulsa.

Per the National Weather Service: Other than raining free beer, what could be better?
-
Still not zero, but Denton County is doing exceptionally well with Covid case reductions. An outdoor event, with adequate spacing, with masks, and with a forecasted 15 mph breeze should be a very reduced risk environment.

Tickets for the game sold out immediately considering the 25% capacity. There are still a few available on StubHub: https://www.stubhub.com/north-texas-mean-green-football-denton-tickets-9-19-2020/event/104721099/ - You may also try the SMU ticket office at214-768-2904 but nobody ever answers that line.

Can Bean limit turnovers? That alone may be the key. Is he going to throw the ball or pass the ball? Thrown balls go to either team.

Chuck Curtis was their last coach, and he did wear the cowboy hats on the sideline.

CUSA East to only have 7 conference games

CUSA should do the right thing and balance the divisions by just kicking UTSA out out of the conference for the season.😄 -

He had the hit and fumble recovery against TCU that helped seal the victory. -
Top 5 hitters in the history of UNT football?
ADLER replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
I was in New Orleans several months ago and stopped at the spot on Iberville just off Bourbon where the ground still shakes. It's where Spencer crossed paths with an enormous Colorado State lineman for a side-street brawl. It was a classic two hit fight...Cody hit the lineman and the giant hit the street, felled like a tree into the filthy gutter. -
And here's the next conundrum... Even if a spring season league goes swimmingly, will there be a fall 2021 football season? P5 players are already requesting 50% of the money from media contracts. What demands will be made if they are playing twice as many games during the 2021 calendar year? We may be seeing the end of college football, at least the way it's been since student athletes were eliminated and college sports became strictly a competitive business of hiring athletic mercenaries.

What losing football would mean for college towns
ADLER replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
If they choose not to decide they still have made a choice. -
Winter bowl games would be a huge money loser for ticket sales, sponsors, and the tourism that they are created to generate. Bowl games that have any potential Big 10, Pac 12, or MAC ties will be played in June to accommodate spring games, and cancelled if the spring season fails to materialize.
