The new "Bruzzy's" Golf Facility is progressing nicely. (Below is photo from today, the other is an architectural rendering) It also appears that they have made a real effort to not encroach too much on the tailgating areas adjacent to the facility. "Over an eight-year period, (1948-1956), the North Texas men's golf team won four national championships and had three second-place finishes". That's quite a legacy on which to build.

Enough ... You had me at "Zach Simmons clone".

I have no idea what somebody would want 198 pairs of used North Texas football pants for, but the whole lot is for sale on Craigslist for $500. https://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/spo/d/used-nike-adult-football-pants-white/7317480221.html

It was certainly an interesting football movie, but they tried to keep it somewhat based on truth so it ended with more of a moral victory than a Death Star explosion...Good for historic accuracy, but probably bad for box office. I saw it at a sneak preview and sat behind one of the actors that played a game official, wearing his MASONS sweatshirt, and a really old guy that was a fan of the book because he was a child when the 'orphans' came to play his hometown Sandies. I was a little confused by the chronology in the film, as to what season it represented. It seemed to condense Russel's 14 season career at Masonic Home into one 'almost' dream season. It also showed, I believe, one player progressing to NTSTC and two playing after WWII service at North Texas State.

Happy Birthday Drex! We should have an annual Psychedelic Sock Hop to mark the event. We're so grateful for your contributions, especially at times when there were so very few people making efforts to support this athletics program. Fans today generally don't realize how such a small group of people kept North Texas sports alive during it's darkest days. Everything is so much better now; excellent facilities, burgeoning fan support, competitive budgets and salaries, and winning in almost every sport. We will always be thankful to you and others that made this possible. Adler and family

New commit: Sean Thomas Faulkner LB transfer from The Citadel
ADLER replied to Marty's topic in Mean Green Football
He's listed as a strong safety, graduated, and he has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Sean-Thomas is second from right. -
Too many Americans are either too young or too infatuated in progressing their own special interest groups to be able to remember the wonderful world of stagflation. Now the government is borrowing and spending trillions of dollars to cover up any symptoms of a self inflicted recession. What happens when the United States is supposed to start paying back the loans? This will be the new and improved National Malaise. We're already starting to see it.

Beau's grandfather Merle was actually the first person with whom I ever talked about Mean Green football. He ran the AJ Foyt Chevrolet dealership in Houston and had his son Greg's Houston Oilers and North Texas (Flying Worm) helmets on display in his office. Greg had played his Mean Green collegiate career under Hayden Fry and his pro career under Bum Phillips and his proud father was always willing to brag about him and share stories. Merle passed in 2015 after a lengthy career as the Rolls Royce distributor for Houston, but it's great to read his continuing family legacy as his grandson Beau advances in his career.

UNT Signee Willie Simmons reported as victim in Austin shooting
ADLER replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
We've encountered something similar before. In 1989 Corky had signed Todd Wageman who is probably the greatest player to have ever played for Springtown, Tx. The star running back had piled up over 1300 yards and 18 touchdowns in just 11 games his senior season, earning First Team All-State honors. This speedster was going to be lining up behind star sophomore quarterback Scott Davis. North Texas had been ranked #1 in 1AA during much of the '88 season with wins at Texas Tech, Rice, and the infamous UT officiating debacle. Anticipation and expectations were high in Denton. Tragically, Todd was killed in a car accident early in the morning of April 9, 1989. These tragic events within our North Texas family weigh heavily. Like with Willie Simmons, the loss of life of anybody so young is terrible, and that they were indoctrinated into our North Texas family makes the loss seem so much more personal. -
'21 OLB Offer: Willie Simmons; Elgin: [SIGNED LOI]
ADLER replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Brace yourselves for bad news folks. I am hearing that our recruit Willie Simmons of Elgin was one of the three people killed in the multiple shootings today in Austin. Prayers for his friends, family, and everyone that loved him. . -
There's a copy of the first North Texas Normal School (1906) yearbook, then called the Cottontail, on ebay. 1906 North Texas Yearbook on ebay The seller displayed the interior pages, and the only listed sport was women's basketball. I selected a unique name from the team, Cosette Faust, for light research just to see whatever happened to some of these people. It seems that Cosette, born in 1889, went on to have an extraordinary and extremely eccentric life, including exotic world travels, and epic battles with city hall. She, along with her antics, are minor legends in Dallas, and were profiled in a D Magazine feature as one of the "40 Greatest Stories in Dallas History". https://www.dmagazine.com/publications/d-magazine/1977/november/the-prisoner-of-highland-park/

I think he would be a perfect fit here and would be able to develop his game. That, and having family and friends be able to attend his games would be a huge bonus.

Must be true, I heard the same thing from Simone Adamley. -
Thank you team, not only for this outstanding season, but also for the several preceding it. It's been a wonderful run and we have shared in your many victories and loved every minute of it.

The NIT has also been great for our branding. You cannot watch any game highlights without seeing our logo plastered across the court or on the seating. A special 'Thank You' to Wren Baker and Brint Ryan. And a huge Thanks to the Lovelace and McNatt families for the Indoor Practice Facility. Our branding is not only visible to all on the interstate, the facility with it's huge logos is featured every evening on the news prior to the weather reports. Now, if we can only get our football managers to use our school colors and logos. We should immediately burn all gray, black, tan, mauve, khaki, dishwater, and any other 'secondary' colored uniform they have created, and get rid of every 'throwback costume' that should have been used once and then get disposed. I don't think we played a single game this past football season in our Green & White with current logo helmets. We played our bowl game on national television wearing Little Rascal quality helmet logos created from green electrical tape.

Thanks for the explanation VCU74. Those events are the reason that I am glad that this season doesn't count against any of the players eligibility.

Their message board is speculating that they may have had some VIP visitors at a dinner this week. There could yet be hell to pay by somebody.
