  1. I saw y'all at the UTSA game and your group was having a blast. BTW, we love the party van.
  2. You gave the "I'm done. Nothing about this is redeemable. I'm taking my ball and going home" speech. Believe me, we've all felt that way, but on the board somebody is always going to respond "to not let the door hit ya..." Every day is an airing of grievances on gomeangreen.com Forget it and don't ever let it bother you. Being a North Texas fan is, as our alum Don Henley said "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."
  3. The December 21 FRISCO BOWL, or the new As Yet Unnamed Bowl in Texas in Frisco. And where are you getting your information? (please provide link so my Bride will let me go ahead and purchase tickets) .
  4. Congrats to Cincy for an outstanding season and breaking the cartel. If Michigan wins the BIG 10 CC game, it'll be... Michigan vs Georgia and Alabama vs Cincinnati .
  5. The TEXAS BOWL is in Houston. I think you're referring to the Yet to be Named Bowl in Frisco. But, even if it's EMU, I wouldn't mind having the Green Eagles around because their few fans would be very well camouflaged on television and in photographs. .
  6. Sorry, I thought I stated that pretty clearly. That decision belongs to Wren Baker, President Smatresk, and our Board of Regents. This dude will abide.
  7. I don't think you're anywhere near correct in your age statement, and I don't think there are many people that can rival Rick's profound dedication to the program (and not questioning yours either as I appreciate every supporter). Rick is not only a financial booster but has also provided decades of volunteer service to the athletic department, specifically with organizing the annual Don January Golf Tournaments to raise money for athletics. He was even awarded UNT's prestigious 2002 Ulys Knight Spirit Award. Rick has literally made a career out of making other people's lives better: https://aapra.org/About-AAPRA/Member-Biography?Id=81 . Seriously, discard this tiff and introduce yourself to him at one of the games. He's a wonderful person.
  8. I think Seth has done well enough to retain his position as head coach for another year but that decision is really in the hands of Wren Baker and the Board of Regents. Next year, as we approach the end of Littrell's contract, I don't think anybody, Wren, our regents, our fans, our team, and even Seth himself, will be satisfied enough with a six win season to extend the contract. So, be happy. You're in a Win - Win situation. Your team either starts winning consistently or you get a new coach. I know we're all hoping for the best but can also understand if changes will then need to be made. Until then, enjoy the hell out of this bowl season that the team and the coaches have provided.
  9. True, this thing is gonna be a 'Sea of Green' and sell out quickly. The tickets are going to be purchased by parents as Christmas gifts as soon as the event date is set.
  10. "Man, I thought we'd be going to the Perfect Bowl, playing a legendary team in front of a hundred thousand fans at one of the world's most famous stadiums." OK you whiners, buck up. We barely earned a bowl bid and this is what we get, and it's still pretty damn good. We can bitch, whine, and mope, or we can make the most of it and have a great time. I personally, will be there to celebrate with my friends and cheer like hell for the school I love. North Texas fans show up in force for bowl games, especially local ones. I will not be alone. .
  11. No, we are one of the only schools that could make this successful because of our location and our resources. We were on the cusp of receiving the UTSA treatment and being told NO BOWL FOR YOU! Were you really anxious to attend the Frisco Bowl because of it's prestigious name? Would it matter if we went to the same venue and it was called the Lone Star Bowl or something similar? This is all good, and it will probably put Wren in charge of a great bit of it's organization. We can make his a fandango customized to our wants.
  12. So true. We have limped into our last three bowl games only to play three historically lesser known schools that were fielding their best teams ever. This game may be exactly what our program needs.
  13. Did the first half of our season earn something better? What is our entitlement? Seriously, let's make the most out of the hand we're dealt. It's only two days before bowl invitations go out and a new bowl is in the creation phase? That's Crazy. We CAN make this happen, and we CAN make it a success.
  14. EMU might bring 1k people - Good, and they'll be wearing green They'd get completely annihilated by us - Good (if ECU cooperates), we could use a bowl victory This bowl is not some reward for an outstanding season, it's an opportunity to finish righting the ship, improving perceptions, and building momentum for future seasons. We'll need to make it a celebration. There are few aspects of this bowl season that we are truly in charge of. We need to make the most of every opportunity.
  15. Our chances of playing in a DFW bowl just increased by 33%, and we even have a reasonable chance of hosting the bowl.
  16. No stadium mentioned, but the new bowl will be in the DFW metroplex. The Athletic (click here for link) I can't see the game being played at any stadium other than SMU's Ford or at Apogee. SMU has previously hosted the Armed Forces Bowl during construction at Amon G Carter but their community may also be more disturbed by a sudden bowl addition.
  17. Why would Seth, or anyone, take a demotion like that?
  18. Our former North Texas basketball player Ann Sheridan's likeness was much more often used as bomber nose art. The "Oomph Girl" as she was commonly called in the early 1940 was unique because, unlike all the tiny frail actresses of the day, Ann was 5'9" and had extremely long thin muscular legs. Though hundreds of planes, maybe thousands, bore her likeness, only the B-25 Sheridan Express actually carried her name. Being somewhat modest, she would only let them use her name if the picture wasn't a "sexy cheesecake" pose. It still looks pretty good if you ask me. .
  19. 1906-1979 And now for the "Adler, please tell us more" trivia part. From James Verinis the co-pilot: "It was in Bangor, Maine, in September 1942, just before we flew overseas. Captain Bob Morgan and I went to see a movie called ‘Lady for a Night’ Joan Blondell starred in it with John Wayne. In the movie Miss Blondell was repeatedly referred to as 'that Memphis Belle'. We were walking back to our quarters after the show and Bob suddenly said ‘Gee, that would be a good name for our plane, the 'Memphis Belle’. " Bob later tried to cover his tail and said that he named his plan after his fiancé'. They used Joan's 'likeness' or as close as they could get from a pinup pic in Esquire for the nose art...and the rest is, well, literally History. https://memphisbelle.com/2016/04/22/whats-in-a-name/
  20. Trial by fire doesn't always work, especially in a function where so much synchronicity is involved. There's a reason that Ruder was a 4* recruit, the top quarterback prospect in Kansas, and why he moved so quickly up the depth chart at North Carolina with very acceptable statistics. What we saw was a quarterback thrown into the starting role two weeks after arriving on campus. He had very few repetitions in this offense, and after a couple of early interceptions, started forcing the ball to make up for mistakes. That obviously didn't work. Jace will now have a spring season to get in sync with his receivers and will soon be ready to show us what he's actually capable of accomplishing.
  21. Here's the link: Dick's Sporting Goods They are selling out quickly. Yesterday all sizes were available (including XXL and 3XL), now it's S, M, L, XL in limited quantities. I'll probably start a "Hoodies and Sweatshirts" thread in the football forum after the bowl announcement. A lot of fans can then post what they've seen online and what's available in their local stores. **Edit** Dick's shows they have larger stock at this link: Dick's Sporting Goods .
  22. Wow guys, great fun podcast. I don't think there has been enough discussion concerning what a huge opportunity a local bowl victory could do to launch this program. A green-out show of force, gazillions of green pom-poms, with all the pomp and ceremony of major college football, could be exactly what we need to activate our alumni base. The team needs to do their part and win the game. The rest of us need to help with the planning, promotion, and propaganda. I want this to be one hell of a big Green celebration. .
  23. Yes, and this is a very good thing.
  24. I don't think wild horses could keep Torrey from playing in this game.
  25. Greenjoe is right, we're playing this up for television. For one day ditch the gray, white, or black North Texas gear. Go buy yourself an early Christmas gift if needed.
